  • Hi This Is Serena Ellison I am a Coal Miners Daughter.. You will see my dad all throughout this video, he is the one holding me the bald baby girl... My Grandpa Tony Farruggia is also in this video, as a baby standing in front of a coal train and later in life in the coal mines, also in this video is my Father in law, my uncle James who died in the mines, as well as MANY friends and locals here in WV. I am PROUD of what these miners do every day, not saying I am proud of how the companies treat them.....This song by the Great Blackwater Outlaws, "Covered in Coal" is used along with these photos of our hard working Miners as a Tribute to the worst coal mining disaster since 1984.
    We will never forget that terrible day April 5th 2010 in Raleigh County WV at the U.B.B. Mine.
    They will be forever in our hearts as we reach out to lend their loved ones left behind a shoulder to cry on and a helping hand.
    Rest in Peace Miners, your babies will be taken care of. Your WV Neighbors will see to that.

    As a miner i can totally relate to this song. I am a mine rescue team member simply because men like these deserve to see their wives and children at the end of each shift. God bless all the miners, whatever company or seam. We are all brothers down there.

    It is Friday night 1:07 am.. just a few short days ago we found out about our miner's, in the U.B.B. Mine disaster in Raleigh County. Today we have confirmation that our 29 miners have gone on to another place... It is with a heavy heart and a tear stained face, we report this sad news... But like the song say's the sun WILL shine.. these miners come from good stock and they have left their mark in West Virginia. We will make them proud.

    I'm still covered in coal in West Virginia. Don't know how much longer we got. It's been 21 years , and I cant think of a place in the world where coal miners fit. We are just a shade different than most folks. 2019 isn't a good time for coal miners, 2020 gonna be a little tougher, but we ain't quitters that's for sure

    My heart goes out to all who has ever lost a loved one to the mines. I'm new to the mining life style. I have 2 sons that work for a constuction crew that builds the mines. I have never been so scared in my life as I am everyday they are working. May God Bless all the men who work building the mines or mining the coal..

    I cannot even begin to explain how it feels to know that 29 of my husbands co-workers were killed. He was lucky and blessed to have been working outside that day. He NEVER works outside. I still cannot believe how he has been spared. I thank God for having His hand on my husband and the other men who were spared. I will continue to pray for the families of the deceased miners.

    I love this song, I was born in Logan and my parents moved to Beckley when i was 4. I love and respect the unique and brave type of man it takes to get the job done. I live in Alabama now and i still think of WV as home. I visited the Eccles mine site about 15 years ago where 180 men died . The monument to them was grown up and unattended, no benches or flowers just like no one cares. I am sure the direct descendents of these men have passed but the town should clean it up . God love the miners.

    I can remember being at work on 2nd shift in ohio when i found out about the explosion my heart sank to my feet with fear for those men and their families. I can remember being at work in the break room when they did the coal miners sos and no one answered and I cried because i knew that they were in heaven. Coal miners are in my family and my friends and I am greatful and thankful to you all for all your hard work.

    I can't believe it has been a year. They will always be remembered. I remember watching on the news to see if they would be survivors, and then finding out that twenty-nine miners were dead. I remember seeing the crosses. How sad it was and is. They gave up their life to keep the lights on for W.VA and other states, and also to put food on their table. A lot of disasters has hit West Virginia and other states too. This mine disaster and I hear the gas station explosion. My aunt was in that.

    @bronco602 Hate to hear that, My father has black lung as well. He worked all his live in those coal mines and provided for his family he worked harder than any many I have ever come across in my whole life... Coal IS an important industry. It is a hard job, that has to be done. These men choose to work this job.

I don't want to leave anyone out... I have 23 names so far

    RIP 29. Coal miners in Appalachia still have to fight daily for a safe & healthy workplace. To hear how miners who make safety complaints today are treated by outlaw coal operators, check out Raymond Crooke's song "Big Coal Don't Like This Man At All" on TH-cam. 1293. Big Coal Don't Like This Man At All (Original) - with Marco Acca on guitar It tells the true story of Kentucky coal miner Charles Scott Howard, who stood up for safety at an underground mine operated by Arch Coal and was fired as a result. He filed a whistleblower case, won his job back and is working in the mines again!

    @Madboxlive I am so glad your Uncle didn't go that day.... and I agree.. those protesters have NO IDEA what they are protesting against... they use electricity they enjoy computers no doubt that are POWERED by the very same electricity our coal miners provide. There will ALWAYS be someone out there who wants to tear down.. but we don't have to be that way.. We are from West Virginia, we are Strong, God Fearing Hard Working People. We will stand PROUD, we always have and always will. God Bless!

  • @wvserena
    @wvserena  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @beyoncefan2382 No they wouldn't release all the names until the men were out of the mines or I would have put them on. Once I get all the names I am going to post them under the video heading.. Some of the guys in the video like my friends husband Carl Wall worked at the mine, actually Carl was on the rescue/recover team as well. My daddy, my uncle James, my grandpa are also in this video as well as a lot of other local hard working coal miners.... when one miner hurts we all feel the pain.
