- When I originally posted my documentary on the works of George MacDonald in late 2007 YT only allowed movies less than ten minutes in length so I had to present it in parts. Now I'm presenting the movie in its entirety. I gave away hundreds of DVD's of this film to anyone who asked for it for quite some time. As a consequence it's been showed at churches and special events the world over. The DVD is no longer available but now you can stream it for free.
The documentary is good; the music is utterly beautiful.
Thank you so much for this video. I have loved George MacDonald for over fifty years. 😊
Thank you so much. I discovered MacDonald in 1987 during a stay in Japan. During a heinous bout with the flu, I was fortunate to find on the bookshelf "Gifts of the Child Christ". After returning to the states, it took me 20 years of passionate searching to find my own copy on a back shelf in a dusty antique shop. The two volume set is treasured, along with "The Princess and the Goblin", "Back of the Northwind", and many other works. I have a saved playlist of audiobooks, and "Lilith" is next in line after "Donal Grant". Again, Thanks!!
Thank you for your kindness.
Thank you.
Thank you! About 20 minutes in and loving this. First heard of George MacDonald in C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce. Grateful for this tremendous production about him.
Thank you so much for the video. I actually made a pilgrimage to his birthplace in Scotland and was shocked that there are no statues, nobody knows where his home was, basically no one save the librarian had ever heard of him
That's a shame. Well he was a giant in my eyes anyway!
Thank you Will. I read Lillith when I was 19 after having read The Golden Key. I knew I was onto something more than "adult fantasy" as promoted by Lin Carter in Ballantine's publications. I have found the most uplifting and life-affirming passages in many of his popular novels, notably Sir Gibbie, Ranald Bannerman's Boyhood and At The Back Of The North Wind. I also mentioned to you, a few years ago, The Flight Of The Shadow, one of his "romance novels" wherein the wanderer meets and is empathetic and feels compassion toward a young atheist who is struggling with Shelley and seeks to make him his watchword. Such great stuff! I wonder if you have ever made your way to these books.
No, Maurice, of the stories you've mentioned I've only read Lilith, The Golden Key, and North Wind. There are several of his books I haven't gotten to get. I've read all of Chesterton, Charles Williams, and CS Lewis' novels and short stories but still have many of MacDonald's to look forward to.
Amazing that this is now In one video I have enjoyed it here on TH-cam for many years now
Thank you. I never realized people would care about having it in one complete slice or I would have done it years ago.
I deeply enjoyed this, thank you.
Great concept and execution. I'm glad it's all on one video now.
I should have done it long ago. . . .
Great film. Thanks for this work
Brilliant! God bless you.
Very good. I love "...Lilith...the Apocalypse of St. George".
Here’s a fun fact for you I live in a UNESCO city of literature and our public library doesn’t have one single book of his( it’s been a few years since I looked) and that is a filthy crime
A wonderful treasure!
This is really well done! Thank you for taking all the time that this must have taken to produce. I feel like you also do justice to George MacDonald and what he was about. I love that letter you read that he wrote to a critic. Where did you find that?
Thanks. The letter was in Greville MacDonald's biography of his mom an dad.
@@gmdinformation ok. I figured. I’ve got to give that another read. Thanks!
Thank you!
I learned of George MacDonald from Malcolm Guite.
George MacDonald would be stoned today, by the church.
Only the fundamentalists
Why?
47:12 He looks a lot like Lev Tolstoy!
The word became flesh and dwelt among us- that means Jesus
Great info so far but was only able to make it to 6:53 before I could tolerate the background music no longer - it is non stop to the point of distracting but I am so very keen to hear and view this material as I adore GM's work, values, world views etc. So, might it at all be possible for you to reproduce this vid with no or very limited background music..?? If you can I am ever grateful, and if you can't, although it will be my loss, I respect your decision. Thanks so much for your consideration :)
The movie already been out for 14 years so it's a little late to be changing things. Thanks for your comment though.
how about if you mute the vid, but keep it rolling with closed captions? Or show the transcript and read along as the video plays. That's how I solve the annoying soundtrack problem.
I, for one, am so glad he veered toward literature, rather than medicine. God had a plan.
Romans 10:9-10
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
King James Version (KJV)
Where can I find the music in this documentary?
Several people have asked me that over the years. I never dreamed anyone would want to hear these background pads as every day music when I made the movie so I never made an effort to preserve any of it. I _have_ found some of it on hard drives but much of it is still lost either on HD's or CD-R's but I'm afraid most may have been thrown out or written over. Maybe it will turn up yet. Thanks for asking.
@@gmdinformation Yeah the music is really good!
@@__-vb3ht I appreciate your saying so!
Where can I read the letter to the Anonymous lady?
"George MacDonald and His Wife" by Greville MacDonald.
What if I am like him how do I prove it😅
Like him as far as a sort of spiritual connection that borders on paranormal? One thing to remember is that prophets generally spend most of their time telling people things they don't want to here.
