Penn is just so smart and well spoken you almost can't take it! Loved hearing his perspective and it's almost relieving to hear the person portraying someone as complicated, dangerous, and problematic as joe actually has a brain about doing so
This is so selfishly satisfying and affirms why I love You so much because I fully agree with all of Penn’s viewpoints and ideas about it and Joe. I literally just spent this whole episode yelling “Yes! Thank you!” to everything he said. Thank you for this!
Thank you for this episode Podcrushed. I can't wait for season 4. Also kudos to Nava and Sophie for asking Penn's fans submitted questions, it was nice to hear his answers from a different perspective. I think is the first time he talks about Joe from that angle.
I am truly a fan of Penn Badgley, as an actor but legitimately as a person. His intelligence and skill, his faith, and on top of it using his celebrity status to amplify and spread supporting amazing things and being a great person and dad.
@@Infinitespam it was Love who persisted in pairing up with Joe, despite knowing who he was from the start. she condemned herself by staying in a toxic relationship. this is the mistake that many women in this world make.
In regards to why Joe needs women to be pure- I also think his childhood (killing his moms bf to protect her) gave him this complex that women need protection and it’s his job to do so, and the first time he got to do that was by murder so he just keeps doing that
I agree that he loved beck because he looked distraught when he saw her ghost in season 2 and he apologised and was crying. If you didn’t love someone you wouldn’t do any of that.
Thank you Nava, Sophie and Penn for this, very nice for watchers of You, and a break from the deep diving of feelings I usually do with your wonderful Podcrushed episodes!
Love poisoned her first husband, she tells Joe how she learned how to do the dosage this time around (on the skin instead). How’d they all collectively forget/miss that.
I’m a new podcrusher 🤘🏼 just wanna say I enjoy y’all’s content so much! Both women have the most comforting and warm voices 🫶🏽 thank you for the therapy! ❤
Penn is a person who reminds me that with all these shows about horrible people and serial killers- that it really is okay to feel deeply about it. Or just in general. I feel like online and even in real life people like to just negate stuff by saying it’s not that serious to avoid hard or even vulnerable realities. Which makes people who feel deeply or maybe are directly impacted feel even worse or just like they can’t voice their emotions. (More so in real life than online)
One of my favorite scenes was in season 2 when Love takes Joe to try a lot of street food and then she cooks chicken for him. You kinda forget in that moment who Joe is and you fall in love with Love.
I wholeheartedly agree with what penn said about not playing joe as a serial killer. I feel like it might be the same way with Michael C Hall with Dexter in a way
Love caused 6 deaths. Killed The girl when they were teenagers that she had to protect Forty, her ex husband , Delilah, Candace, Natalie, and led to the neighbour’s suicide , and she also hit Theo but luckily he didn’t die. She almost killed Marienne if not the kid appeared
HOW?!!! Joe did not like the real Beck at all…. Joe used to read Beck for filth in his inner monologues. He aggrandized her and wanted her to be some deep, intellectual, talented budding author but the second she committed to him he found her to be lazy, unmotivated and basic and he literally recoiled at her sometimes when she acted shallow or desperate for social attention. He corrected her and tried to “upgrade” her taste at every turn!
@@navakavelin18 he didn’t “love” any of them.. he was obsessed with the perception of them that HE fantasized/created. When they would be their actual selves, the fantasy dies which means they must die too.
Besides that this is the most underrated interview ever, I could watch the show season to season till there is an happy end. But the main reason why I watched it, was to see how genius Joe got out of every situation like nothing happened 😂 like the movie Stepfather, but w a mothercomplex.
Ahhh I’m living for the energy y’all have together when y’all are in the same room! Such good questions from everyone but I’m also mad that we have to wait so long for season 4. Sounds like it’ll be a doozy 🤪
Penn is absolutely right! I rejected watching You because I thought it would give me nightmares (as a single woman). I just watched Gossip Girl and fell for Dan/Penn and wanted to see his other work. That led me to “You” and this podcast. I just finished S4. Loved it! After S3 & 4 nightmares are eminent…😢
The way Penn plays joe is like the opposite of how Stanley Tucci plays grief in inside man - makes me think of moral worth. Penn makes joe redeemable. there is moral worth
I love this episode. I don't think Joe has ever really fallen in love. Joe unknowingly destroys the lives of everyone he comes in contact with. Sophie, I'm sorry but the character Love killed more than one person. She killed her babysitter. supposedly to protect her brother and then have him accused of the murder.her first husband because she dosed the poison incorrectly, Dahlila, Candice, Nathalie.without forgetting the attempted murders against Gilles and Théo. She's a serial killer too.
Actually, Love‘s first husband was sick, then he got better and wanted to leave her but she killed him instead, she told Joe about him shortly before he killed her
i love how we have progressed to the point of where Penn is edgy by trying his hardest to not be edgy, like him being appalled in an environment that loves the genre of the show, is so funny...
I like how he explains he doesn’t play Joe as a serial killer because serial killers don’t experience a deep range of emotions. Its clear Penn doesn’t want people to romanticise Joe’s character as some sort of troubled soul looking for his perfect love, he wants the fans to know Joe is a bad man who does bad things. That being said I wish he come across as though he enjoyed playing the character more and didn’t bash the character so much, don’t ground Joe in reality to much or we’ll have a tough time liking him. Season 4 has been my least favourite season seems the writers have never met an English person! They made anyone English into the stereotypical version of what Americans think we’re like. I’m English and it’s painful to watch these Londoners played like pompous Aholes with a stick up there butt! I’m new to Podcrushed and enjoying the content! Penn is a fantastic actor and can’t wait for the next season of YOU.

Yeah. Like, I LOVE PENN but come on man, it is JUST fiction. Ryan Murphy was even worse, exploiting actual traumas. I could tell he's done with You if it weren't for the contract probably.
