You left out the best line of the move from Alejandro - "You will not survive here. You are not a wolf. And this is the land of wolves now."

I think the last scene with Emily was a small glance at how the smuggler cop probably had to live his entire life. Helpless pawns.

The water in the torture scene was supposed to signal to the guy in the hallway that they were "just" gonna waterboard him. They only used waterboarding as a cover up to what they were really doing to him, which is left to our imagination. If you're using waterboarding to DISTRACT from the actual torture it's gonna be some messed up shit that's for sure.

    1) by killing the boss, that induces a struggle for succession of leadership in the cartel, causing infighting and additional casualties in the cartel without any added action need on the part of Josh Brolin's unit.
    2) when Emily Blunt exited the tunnel and found Alejandro had shot the cartel man and had the Mexican police officer at gun point, she was in Mexico and as an US FBI Agent had no legal authority or police powers to arrest, detain, or do anything, so technically Alejandro was within his rights in Mexico to defend himself against a threat pointing a pistol at him. Emily's character should have known this.
    3) The shootout in traffic was in between the Mexican and US Customs stations (having left Mexico, but not yet entered the US), and so was not under the jurisdiction of either Mexico or the US, so no Mexican or US laws were broken.
    4) the affidavit that Emily Blunt was forced to sign was technically true. She was only need for CIA operations IN THE US, not for operations in Mexico. She did not witness the interrogations in the US, and everything else that they did in the US was legal. All of the extra-legal stuff happened in Mexico.

@@briansheely3474right. You’re either pregnant or not pregnant. You’re either in US or in Mexico, it’s a literal line over land. As soon as they crossed into Mexico, the mere fact that they have guns makes them all criminals, just like the cartel guys.

Seen this movie a hundred times, and never realized your #2 point before until now. Never even thought of it that way, that Alejandro may have technically been shooting back at Emily's character completely legally, I just figured he was so past the point of giving a fuck that shooting a cop a few times in the vest was small potatoes compared to what he had planned.

I love how you were so giddy at the "assembling the team", but this is not that kind of movie at all, as you find out along the way 😂
As a fairly politically minded person, I love how this movie portrays the very fucked up nature of the drug war. And also that it just doesn't work and is a vicious cycle of violence. It's not that Emily Blunt's character is "naive", she's just a decent human being as opposed to everyone else on "her side" torturing, breaking all kinds of human rights.
Btw, this is the first in a screen writing trilogy called "The Frontier Trilogy". The other two films in it are "Hell or High Water" and "Wind River". All three written by Taylor Sheridan and all three movies I really recommend. They're basically all Neo Westerns that have the theme of what the American Frontier looks like today and how the history of the US has molded the landscape and people. I mean, the sequel to this movie is also fine and a good watch, but nowhere near as good as the other two films in the Frontier Trilogy imo.

It's hard the deny the brilliance of the CIA (I know this is fictional, but I'm sure it happens in real life as well) in recruiting people that have a personal vendetta against the cartels, like Del Toro's character here.

    • @Objectified
      @Objectified หลายเดือนก่อน

She's specifically naive in her belief that she can interfere with the campaign to try to build a case from the findings at the bank. She's specifically naive that she thinks she can interrupt Alejandro when he's taking the Mexican cop. Her view is very black-and-white, but she's attempting to operate in a world packed with shades and colors. The same applies to the perspective that the drug war "just doesn't work." It's not either-or. The "war on drugs" did not work, but that does not mean that waging a "war" against drug cartels is pointless. Every country that struggles with drugs has some form of a "drug war" going on. Anything that attempts to constrain the drug trade is part of the drug war. Sicario was relatively rare in that it acknowledged this, at least in the movie.

To emphasize how she would be "committing suicide", it was her gun that Del Toro was holding. So yes, it would have been her service weapon had he needed to suicide her. You likely caught that but that it is her actual service weapon adds so much emphasis to all of it. This is my first time to stumble upon your reactions. You two are great. Earned a sub.

The economy of a small country indeed. At the height of his power in the 80's/90's Pablo Escobar was earning approximately $50,000,000 a DAY.
So much money that he couldn't launder it all, so he started to buy houses to store it in and ultimately started just wrapping it up on pallets and burying it all over the countryside. People are still finding it (mostly molded and rotten) to this day.

23:53 not really. They both want to wipe out a large amount of people for the good of the many. Matt is infiltrating a dangerous organization of killers to save innocents while Thanos was killing innocents to save innocents. Matt is definitely an asshole but he has sympathetic reasons too. He always warns Emily of what to do and she always ignores him

If you two are up for another Villeneuve film that has the least glorifying but still ambiguous take on violence and what it does to people, you should definitely take in his "Incendies". I like to describe it as the most horrific, uplifting "Mother's Day movie" imaginable...

Oh please. She's female and he's male. He's stronger than her in multiples and significantly larger. His tendons, ligaments, and fascia alone are too much for her to overcome, especially when she's inebriated, flustered, caught off guard, and already losing air. His hands and arms are on her neck, not trying to pin her down, and even if she can get an elbow she's not going to be able to roll him. T&R is a great thing to teach, but it's not magic.

Good movie but in all honesty for 1 individual to get into a compound or residence like depicted in the movie is extremely far fetched. I think they should have gotten better writing then what was shown so that thst scene is more believable. Also at the beginning of the movie intel would have the law enforcement wearing Tan outfits not black because they would be scene easily in a real house raid situation. Simple mistakes by the director but the rest of this movie was amazing.
