Battery doesn't last quite as long as you'd expect. But other than that I can get around town on a single charge fairly easily and ride to work on half a change there, top off and ride back. With current technology, this would be super impossible. When I was a kid, there was a science museum in CT that had an exhibit about producing electricity (I am sure there are similar exhibits at other museums)... it featured a pedal bike with a generator attached, allowing you to pedal and power up a selection of different items. The single light bulb was easy, but the analog TV set was impossible to light up, no matter how hard or fast you could pedal. Taking that into consideration, charging an average ebike takes 3-6 hours to charge... using a wall outlet... that outputs a consistent 120 volts. Doing this by pedals would be like that science experiment, at a sprinting pace, for 12 hours.
