As for beats of pre-chorus vs the rest of the song sounding like 2 different songs blended together, sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't but it's not unusual for songs to have verses, choruses, a middle-8, bridge, tempo or key change and/or an instrumental break or instrument solo arranged to add light and shade, and a hook to add interest to a song. If they didn't then a song wouldn't be a vehicle for musical storytelling, it would be a boring plod that went nowhere wouldn't it? Like listening to a washing machine. 😂
