    Love the mix of traffic. Was in Texas for the first time ever early this year. Coming from NJ, these Texas superstructure highways are always fascinating to see. There’s interchanges around me that I always thought were huge (granted some like the Newark spaghetti bowl are), but the sheer height and amount of lanes, even in areas outside the city centers in Texas is amazing.

    Interesting to see that traffic jam hasn't cleared up since I left in the mid-80's. But I will say this: Houston is a hell of a town with some of the nicest people I've ever met. Too bad I was too young back then to appreciate it.

    I too don't mind some traffic in a video once in a while.
    Since I can't travel and unfortunately can't visit those places myself, I watch videos like yours to experience them vicariously.
    I'm looking for immersion, which is why I don't mind to get some rough with the smooth, if you know what I mean.
    To be honest, when I first discovered your channel, I wasn't happy with the fact that you speed up the footage, because of that. Because it diminishes immersion, so to say. Initially I would have preferred longer, real time videos.
    But what you do grew on me and I appreciate your videos as their own thing and I appreciate the craftsmanship and artistic spin you give the videos.

    Great video! It’s a bit different (especially since there was more traffic), but I really like Texas Freeways in general, and the soundtrack seemed to go really well with the video.
    Interesting fact I just found out by the way: El Paso is considered the halfway between Los Angeles and Houston. It really puts into perspective of how big of a state Texas really is.

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and yes that is an excellent point, it's a looooong way across Texas on I-10.

    • @BrandonClaridge
      @BrandonClaridge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is crazy to think you can drive halfway between Houston and Los Angeles, and still be in Texas. Or maybe almost halfway, as Las Cruces, NM seems to be closer to the halfway point (using the result from meetways.com).
      But also consider: the halfway point between Los Angeles and Seattle is still in California; that is, somewhere between Redding and Mount Shasta. I-5 in CA has the second-longest Interstate mileage within a single state, after I-10 in TX, after all. California is quite tall by U.S. state standards, extending below the 33rd parallel north around San Diego, and up to the 42nd parallel north at the CA-OR border; CA spans almost 10 degrees of latitude. But Texas still beats that, as TX dips below the 26N parallel in the Brownsville area and reaches latitude 36.5N at its northernmost point along the border between the TX and OK panhandles.
      Of course, Alaska beats TX and CA in terms of north-to-south length, from latitude 55N near Metlakatla to above latitude 71N near Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow), covering over 16 degrees of latitude as a result! And there's many climate zones in-between: the Alaska Panhandle is basically Cascadian with its temperate rainforests (like a cooler version of Seattle, or more accurately a cooler version of the Olympic Peninsula); in the north and west you can find tundra, plus plenty of boreal forest between those two extremes. California beats any other US state on its variety of climates (Mediterranean, maritime, desert, plus subarctic and tundra in the high mountains), however; there are a variety of microclimates everywhere!

    You also have a record of I-35 in Austin. Unfortunately, it's not a complete drive through, but that appears to be common to a lot of people who want to film it. What they don't understand is that I-35 through Austin is a lot more. I consider it worth the trip if it goes from city limit to city limit. In this case, the city limits on I-35 is between just south of TX 45 North Toll and just south of TX 45 Southeast Toll Which puts it just south of Round Rock on the north side and just north of Buda on the south side. Including Georgetown and Round Rock up north and Buda down south is optional, but I am a stickler for getting things right.

It was a Friday (poor idea on my part) but I-45 and I-69/US-59 were relatively manageable all day for me. The real pain came from driving 610. It's got some fantastic engineering but there was nothing enjoyable about driving it. No matter what time of day I attempted, it was always insanely backed up. Still glad I found the time to make it down there though.

      The high five in Dallas.

    I always enjoy your vids of freeways in other cities and states, and as a 30-year Houston resident, I get a kick out of the comments when Huge-town in the subject. :) When in the freeway mix everyday, it's easy to forget how impressive the infrastructure actually is -- all you see is the traffic. I hope you're able to come back soon -- there have been some projects started and completed since your last visit: US 290: the Northwest Freeway -- my290.com/maps-2/overview-map.html , TX State Highway 249: the Aggie Tollway -- txsh249.com/ , and TX State Highway 288 -- drive288.com . I'd be happy to assist if you wanted to drive on the toll roads, although you are "Freewayjim", not "Tollwayjim". Take care and thanks for the great entertainment!

      I appreciate the comment, I'll film tollways (LBJ in Dallas) it's just I usually have limited time and can't go too far out of my way in some places, I get what I can :). And thank you for watching.

    how would you compare Los Angeles and Houston?

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Los Angeles is larger and has a more extensive freeway network and has some amazing interchanges and freeways due to the mountainous landscape in areas. Houston's infrastructure is newer but with the area being so flat, it's just not as interesting a place as LA all things considered.

    Houston deserves on the list of the Top 20 US cities with the worst traffic.

      More like Top 5

    • @CrystalClearWith8BE
      @CrystalClearWith8BE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe, but here's the real list according to another person's video about traffic in US cities:
      10: Philadelphia, PA
      9: Portland, OR
      8: San Francisco, CA
      7: Pittsburgh, PA
      6: Seattle, WA
      5: Los Angeles, CA
      4: New York City, NY
      3: Chicago, IL
      2: Washington, DC
      1: Boston, MA
      My picks for honorable mentions as I guess:
      Atlanta, Nashville, Miami, most major cities in Texas especially in Houston, Denver, Phoenix, San Jose. What else is on the list and what should I exclude on the list?

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrystalClearWith8BE I don't really care either way to be honest, there are many lists that use different metrics most big cities have heavy traffic, that's just the way it is..
