    'Loaded bones will snap much easier', is an observation I have seen on many occasions. Human thigh bones that are stomping on the brakes during a high speed collision snap very frequently. It is one way to help determine who was driving when both front seat occupants are subsequently ejected.

    • @PersonalBestOutdoors
      @PersonalBestOutdoors 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it's the steering wheel as an obstruction that causes the femur of the driver to snap. Your legs aren't meant to bend the way they have to when a driver is ejected during a collision. There's not a much of an obstruction in the passengers seat.

    • @williamgaines9784
      @williamgaines9784 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@PersonalBestOutdoors it is not the steering wheel or both legs would snap. I have observed no indication of contact with the steering wheel in the cases I investigated, many dislocated knees and elbows in passengers that braced, but not broken femurs, on the drivers it is always the braking leg that snaps, usually the right in automatic transmission vehicles

      I heard a long time ago that drunk drivers that crash usually don't get hurt as bad because they were so relaxed on impact. I don't know if that's true but it was from a guy that studied car accidents for his job, or he was an EMT, i forget which it was.

      @@ArchersAnonymous-nb4ym plenty of them die, some take out others as well.
      There is some truth to being "less hurt" by being unaware of the impending crash, but it truly cannot be studied. I have awakened drunks that were miles from anywhere, some had parked in the middle of highways, some soft landed down embankments, and they asked me, "Why are you in my driveway?"

    At 26 minutes ed talks about the compromise between edge “ sharpness” and the mechanical advantage of the angle of the blade. You can get a really sharp blade that starts off thin, but you’ll have sharpen it frequently. So they are opposing goals of a long bevel to aid in splitting bone vs strength of material of the broadhead. Beautiful concept, it’s all a balance

    I’ve been saying this for years. You need to know how far it goes in to know what’s “efficient”. I’ve been reducing weight for the last 3 seasons now and still getting pass throughs. This year is the scary test seeing how I’m down to 427 grains and I have a fixed and a mechanical in my quiver. The woods I’m hunting 30 yards is as far as I can shoot.

    Something I thought of as I looked at the data sheet. The Tuffhead 300gr had great penetration (pass through). They have a longer cutting edge and a huge mechanical advantage. Does mechanical advantage have a limit? It clearly creates better penetration, but does it trade off tissue damage due to a narrower cutting width? One of the 12 factors is a 3:1 mechanical advantage. Were any 4:1 or 5:1 broadheads looked at?
    It would be great if Sirius would start making those 300gr tuffheads again! I have the 400gr dangerous game, but 300gr seems to be the sweet spot. I can get my arrows around 660-680 without taking away the structural integrity of the insert.

    The bottom line is there are too many variables to say that any one thing is the best thing. The "best thing" in one instance, will be substandard in another instance. I have shot animals with mechanical broadheads that didn't pass through that have ran shorter distances than animals I have put a fixed blade through the heart and both lungs. I can only theorize that the animals with the opened mechanical broadhead experienced more trauma due to having a large expanded blade lodged in their tissue. I have also had shots with mechanicals that didn't pass through, and because of the angle, they were extremely difficult to blood trail. One in particular ran 160yrds. Single lung top down shot, sliced the ventricle. A fixed blade would have been better in that situation, I think, because it would have more than likely passed through, and blood trailed better. The mechanical was poking the hide of the underside of the chest.
    What I've learned is in thick brush or places where trailing will be difficult, I'm choosing whichever tool will create the greatest best chance for blood trailing. And my experiences have shown e that a proper mechanical is that tool, and I choose Sevr's for that. In situations where I'll have more challenging shot angles, I'm choosing the tool that will provide me with the greatest likelihood of a passthrough and is least affected by bones- a fixed blade. And I choose Toughheads for that.

      Yes. We take all test shots within 30 minutes of the animal's expiration. Early on, test data indicated that shots taken after more than 45 minutes of the animal's expiration showed a noticeable difference in outcomes. To minimize any effect from rigor mortice, we set the maximum time limit for testing at 30 minutes. This time limit has been in place in the testing protocols since 1987.

    To put it simply a pass through means no significant structures were encountered going through the animal. The best data comes from when the arrow makes contact with something like bone. That's the only way to see what it's really capable of in a real world situation. And it WILL happen.
