That is a good idea! DevonBumpkin did a multi-pod ‘tree-house’ type build recently using tiny living stuff, that turned out pretty nice. I think you’d need to like a more modern style though. I’d love to see what James would do with the idea of a tiny living tree house type build.
I am trying to build my first micro home. Less cheating (I don't use MOO, for example)... but I can't help but taking advantage of Oasis Springs warm climate. So outdoor kitchen it is. :D
@@beardedgeek973 Heck, I did one of those in Newcrest. Put a big fireplace in the outdoor kitchen with a roof over (otherwise the first thunderstorm broke my fridge) and sims kept warm there.

Melissa Gruben Yeah, but that’s the reason builders build and post their stuff to the Gallery, right? How sad is it when a builder builds great homes and no one downloads or uses them? Building isn’t as much fun for me in S4 as it was ts3, so I often end up downloading homes off the gallery and just changing up the non-structure parts. And honestly, the only reason I probably do that most of the time is to declutter because I have pts3d (post-traumatic sims 3 distress ;p) and I swear, I practically get the shakes from having a lot of clutter on lots! I think I originally started building in ts3 because I got tired of decluttering builds (especially landscaping!), so it was just easier to build myself. Too much clutter in ts3 was a quick path to lots of lag and could contribute to saves getting corrupted (in case you weren’t aware). So yeah, you should never feel less, or bad, about downloading other people’s builds, it’s why they create them! (Edit to add: I’m sorry if my pts3d joke offends anyone, I deal with the disorder myself so I really do understand how serious the disorder is! But I also know that if you can’t find ways to laugh at the stuff that causes you pain, it will only cause you more pain in the long run.)
As long as you build it yourself it dosen't count as copying 😊 I regulary see a build and try to build it, and i don't look at it again so i can get my own ideas onto the build.

Which I'm not I'm just taking some aspects of his build and incorporating it into my build. Like using the window roof as extra light and space and the loft area. So I don't know what I should do so that people don't think I'm copying him. I just want to know what I should do so that people don't get mad.

James, you should make a show called fix my home, where we put tiny homes that sims care unable to get to certain areas, or use certain things, etc. The challenge is you have to fix them by keeping most furniture and the general style
I've been building my own for a few days and the loft bit was driving me up the wall! I took a good look at yours and managed to get a working space as opposed to the abomination that was there previously! I also 'borrowed' your downstairs roofing to add a bit more light. So glad you posted this, I was tearing my hair out trying to get it to do what I envisioned!

James, I love how you build in so many different styles. I feel like most speedbuilds I see are in a modern style, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I love the variety of your speedbuilds. I especially appreciate how you don't shy away from doing "ugly" or old builds and are always looking to challenge yourself and do something different. Keep up the great work!!!
For the small house tier, I think it'd be really cool if we could see some form of industrial eco-style build. One with lots of metal and wood but an equal amount of greenery, like it was just kind shoved together.

This tiny home is GORGEOUS! I love it so much. I’m planning on making a micro home when I get the pack. I’m planning to make a micro home & have my sim have a roommate. So I’m thinking of making a loft and putting the roommate in the loft (since i hate my sims walking up and down for stuff lol. I only like playing in one story houses which is SUCH a problem lol). My sim stuff will have more space but also the possibility of increase/decrease relationships is just so amazing and seems like it’ll be super fun
I'd love to see tiny community lots too! I know the new lot type is only residential, but still. I made a food truck restaurant for my sims, it's pretty fun!
I really like those little nooks like where the piano is. Definitely adds more character. The loft itself is nice too. The fact it's small but still open and has a comfortable feel to it is great.
I'm loving the build. I like that its easily changeable, like you can move the office on the main floor and pretty much have a 3 bedroom! Keep up the great work.

Hey, dumb question: since the loft space is technically outside, is it affected by weather? Does precipitation fall or does the roof still keep it dry? Is it heated like the rest of the house or will Sims be chilly in winter/broiling in summer? I’d test it myself, but I don’t have the time right now 😞
That's a really good question, I wondered this myself, but since my last save game the whole family died of heat even though the thermostat was set to cooler during a heatwave. . . . my luck sucks, so no doubt if I tested it they would just die anyway. . . .>

I'd love to have walls in build mode that are just full-length windows. The window roofs are a step in that direction but window walls would allow you to have even more control.

Last night I finally started building the house that I got the sims in order to build. I discovered all sorts of tricks to simulate the staggered levels and lofts and general strange floorplan. This taught me even more and is SO cool. Ironically, it's the build that made me crave all the expansion packs the most because the stuff you use is just so gorgeous - that chess table, those curtains and rainbow doors? Woah
I remember a family friend owned an A-Frame house in semi-rural NSW, with a grey roof and white exterior wooden panelling. It stuck out from the rustic brick and corrugated tin houses on its street. Super cool to see your take on such a home

I don't think it's affected by weather, but your sims may still get adverse moodlets in that room when there's thunderstorms.
But don't get that anyway even tho they are in the house??
Rain and snow won't go inside, I'm not sure about the temperature though.. I've played in houses like this and it was fine.
If you have an areas outside that's covered, in game, then snow and rain can't get to it. You'll end up with a square that isn't covered by snow.
For the small house, you might do one for 8 sims including 2 elders, 2 adults, 2 teens, a child and a toddler. Try to make one guest room as well. 😊
If this was irl, someone must have a lot of free time to take care of all those plants or spend a lot of money for gardener(s).
