These are all so good! Loving Dorfromantik Sakura. Glad you are now scoring higher on Evergreen. And thanks for introducing Fate Flip. I haven’t heard about this much and it looks like a great little adventure game.
Oh my god, me and my boyfriend absolutely loved dorf romantic sakura! We bought it in the beginning of this month and we almost finished it 😅 Opening the boxes and trying to get most points is so fun and the art is beautiful! Will try playing it solo also 😊
I think Dorf Romantik would be a wonderful game to play with a partner! That’s so fun! 😊 such a fun activity to do together. I wonder if Francis would maybe play it with me. 🥰
Lots of interesting games in your list -- some new ones I haven't seen before. And thanks for the Fellowship of the Ring recommendation -- a heavy themed solo trick taker? What will they think of next? Campaign roll and write bag builder wallet game?
I’m *loving* the Fellowship of the Ring Trick Taking Game! I’ve been playing a lot of it, Final Girl, and Railroad Ink solo. That said, I’m wanting to get Dorfromantik at some point, but I’m also trying to navigate whether there’s enough difference between base Dorf and Sakura to legitimize getting one over the other or both Great video as always! Wishing you luck with the campaign games!
I know you get manyyy comments to read but I mentioned to you that Black Sonata was doing a campaign in one of your videos talking about Black Sonata… anyways, I’m really excited to play it as I watched Monique do a play through and I just received my shipping notice recently!!
Looove Black Sonata - sometimes when i play my husband will sit next to me and play with me helping pick where we move and if we check for the dark lady. We have yet to surpass a golden lad score though
It's settled. I'm getting Black Sonata and LOTR Trick Taking. Time to go call my FLGS. The main games I've played solo recently are Aqua Rove and Lost Ruins of Arnak. Going to start the solo campaign of Arnak soon (want to try the purple difficulty cards on the app to see before I settle on a difficulty).
Played my first full game of Mr. President(GMT). Played a game of Red Dust solo(COIN GMT) had not played any COIN in awhile so that go me to pull out Fire in the Lake. Also been playing a ton of Voidfall solo as well as Civoultion. Just busted out Make Knight and have it set up to run a solo game of it tomorrow.
Amazing reviews as always Jenna. I agree so much on black sonata and fellowship of the ring. I will tell you about black sonata expansions when I will get them. Loved it enough to jump on them blindly as soon as I discovered them. tip toeing on creature caravan. maybe you pushed me enough to buy it. although it is not available in france now haha. As a solo campaign game, did you try or took a look on lands of galzyr ? and it is pronounced "rivaj" the "es" is mute. it is french
Thanks for putting these together, it's nice to gain awareness of games I've not yet heard of. If possible, could you please see if there is some way to improve the video capture/smoothness in your B-roll shots, when the camera is panning? No matter the video quality setting, those clips are always incredibly stuttery to the point of being almost nausea inducing, forcing me to have to skip them all entirely.
I’m so glad you enjoyed Black Sonata. I had mentioned it to you to try it before you did. The mechanics are very cool which got me to love the game. I’m brand new to board games and that game was the first game I did. No one will play any games so I have to play Solo. I got both expansions. This game will always be my first love.
This is nearly the same with me: I often have to play solo. The games I like playing solo are: Sherlock Solitaire, For Northwood, Cascadia, Harmonies, Coffee Roaster, Planet unknown. Many Buttonshy Games are for playing solo - maybe you should check them out. For the „bigger“ games which have a very good solomode I like to play: At the Gates of Loyang, Woodcraft, Underwater Cities, Keystone Northamerica - if you are new in boardgaming you should check the weight of the games at BGG an gather some more informations. There are lots of roll and writes which you can play solo as well: Welcome to your home, Welcome to the moon, Fliptown, Three Sisters, Lost Cities the dice game and and and…. At the moment I am learning how to master The White Castle - a wonderful game, but a brainburner😅 Unfortunately my all-time-favourite games do not have a good solomode: Wingspan, Castles of Burgundy, Viticulture😮 so I have to play these, when somebody is around😊 Welcome to the wonderful world of boardgaming, wishing you tons of fun in the new hobby! And thank you for mentioning Black Sonata - I will try it🎉 love from Germany🎉

I can only speak to The Light in the Mist, as I've not yet played the others, but sadly my wife and I have been mostly disappointed. Frist and foremost, it feels like the publishers intentionally hid the theme and content advisory of the game (it's not on their website or the box, only in the book, and about 5+ pages in, upside down at that). Between the theme of the story and some of the puzzles being overly difficult, either due to their design or to being so poorly worded/misguiding, the game left us in a state of mild depression after every playthrough. It was a relief to finally finish last night, and is not one we could/would recommend to others.
The printing is so small, I enlarged it to a full page and still had to use a magnifying glass-should NOT have tried to make it a “small” box. Would have liked it better if I could have seen the pages!!
Could you add which game you are referring to? I can't figure out what you're talking about. I can definitely imagine having to use a magnifying glass taking the fun out of a game, so I'd also like to avoid that one.
I oddly felt so different after our play of Creature Caravan. I played it solo when I first played, and I liked it, but with the second play (our multiplayer game), I was even more into it. Although I agree that it is multiplayer solo game and the only thing is not knowing when other folks are going to be utilizing the market and zombi boards over time. But I also clearly was just on my own solo adventure at the end of the table. I'll have to get it back to the table solo after that experience.
I absolutely love French Quarter. It’s my go to solo game for sure. Thanks for all the other great suggestions!

Great video and great selection of games! I’d love to know how long each game took you when playing solo!

Thank you for this wonderful List, I definitely will check out Black Sonata, Fate Flip and Light in the Mist. French Quarter sounds intriguing too🎉

Awww! I love that so much! 😊 glad you both enjoy it!
Yes and thumbs up to the video of “best board game aesthetics” from Jenna!
I know ALL the solo games. … turns out, I did not. Thanks for the video and the inspiration. I will never financially recover from this.
I would like to recommend The Morrison Game Factory , produced by the same company of The Light in The Mist.
Nice puzzle with touching story
Oh yes! I remember seeing this one at PAXU as well! Good to know. Thanks! :)

I'm not a huge trick-taking fan, but man I really loved playing that LotR one.
It is so good! I think bringing in that theme really helps! :)
Reminds me of dies on crion
I am curious how you are storing Planet Unknown on it side.
You should also try Kinfire Delve

It sounds like you are pronouncing Tir na nOg correctly - except the R should have a slight roll to it.
Nice work!
Okay good! Thank you so much for letting me know. :)

Washed ashore is bad if you compare it with Cartaventura.
Try Cartaventura and let us know...
