A trip to Cabo Verde can be quite expensive, especially if you don’t have family there to host you and provide meals. My experience was more budget-friendly because I had family on each island, so I didn’t need to book a hotel or Airbnb, and we saved money by cooking meals at home after doing regular grocery shopping. Local street food was also quite affordable.
For those planning a trip, here are some key points to consider:
1. Accommodations: If you don’t have family to stay with, look for affordable hotels or Airbnb options. Booking in advance can help you secure better rates.
2. Food: Cooking at home can significantly reduce costs. However, don’t miss out on local street food, which is both delicious and inexpensive. Be prepared to spend more at good restaurants, especially when traveling with a large family.
3. Car Rental: Renting a car was pricey but totally worth it. It gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace. Locals are friendly and helpful with directions, which made getting around easier.
4. Activities: Many activities, like sightseeing in Brava and Fogo, were free for us because we had a local friend showing us around. Even if you don’t know anyone locally, renting a car allows you to explore independently, and locals are usually happy to provide directions.
