Very fascinating story about this church. I'm Catholic and I hope visit this Church someday, but what I find beautiful is that it's being run by several branches of Christian group and the keys by Muslims. Living in a Muslim country myself, this is so touching to me.
Thank you for making this video, I've learned so much.

Muslims used to have honor back in the day and protected our Holy Sites. Then the Wahhabis and Pan-Islamic terrorists came and started destroying everything. It is a shame, but I am glad honorable Muslims were in charge of Jerusalem and kept our Holy Sites in tact and still do today, continuing their family's legacy. May God bless them and forgive their sins.

Thanks for the video because now I can fully appreciate the beauty of the Church. I'm Catholic and when I visited the Church, it was thickly packed with pilgrims it was hard to move without bumping on someone. Some areas had very long queues and once you reach the spot, you cannot even stop to pray because you are told to move on.

    • @vimalajose4252

Exactly. I too visited recently. But couldn't pray properly as they asked to move quickly...😢Just a glance of sepulchre... Now i am travelling throught the videos so that i can get better information like the one he provided. Good job. Thanks for the detailed explanation and videos🙏💐

Fascinating tour - bit weird to see the church almost empty and that you had free pass to all those floors and chambers. Corona time opportunity I guess. The quality of the clip is incredible too - sharp and clear 🙂

Thank you for the beautiful Tour. I was there in the Church of the Sepulcher last May 3.2022 with my co-sisters in Christ ( CFC-HOLD ) for a Pilgrimage. And the best thing that I will never forget that day,. Outside the Church I found on the ground a beautiful red color Holy Rosary. It is so amazing. Thank you Jesus❤

That is by far the best review of the Sepulcher that I've ever seen. I've really got a decent idea now of what it's like in real life.
Here's a 6th crazy fact. In a couple of cuts in your video, 0:29 is one, you can just see a window with a simple wooden slat ladder leaned up against it on an outside balcony. It is called the Immovable Ladder. That ladder has been a bone of contention between the several denominations that run the church. At some point, no one is sure quite when, about 300 years ago some repairs were done on the window or wall or someone just leaned a ladder up against the wall and forgot about it. Eventually people noticed it was there but by then it had become a fixture of the place. This caused quite the rift to occur between the various denominations. Who had the "right" to remove it? No one knew who put it there so everybody claimed precedent. I've read that this even lead to fist fights between the various monks who live there from time to time. Eventually it was decided just to let it sit there permanently lest the status quo be upset and more fighting erupt over it. In fact the ladder that is there today isn't even the original. That one eventually disintegrated over its centuries of exposure to the elements. The various denominations pooled a little money together to buy a new one to replace it.

How about the short ladder that was left outside on the 2nd/3rd window, is it still there? Supposedly the first Pope who visited Jerusalem said to leave it there as a reminder of the division among the Christians.

    "We Are Stronger"
A Poem by Steven F Gooden
We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures.
We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night.
Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again. A Human Ark Divine in our human spark.
    by
    Steven Gooden

Thanks for posting this. Around the year 2000, i lived for 3 years in the Old City, and several times, I let myself lock in the Church at night, in an attempt to sense the essence of the location with only a few priests, nuns in the deepest prayers. These moments, still are amongst my most cherished life memories.

    • @jphalsberghe1

@@radiance65 Actually, at that time, I considered myself more secular than a believing Christian. So, I was there to observe/tourist rather than to ''meditate'' or pray. The Church itself has many distinct and all different praying spaces to accommodate the greatest Christian denominations.
Each space has a distinct vibration and feel. There are 3 different floor levels. There is no architectural or spiritual harmony, but rather the opposite. At night, the vibes are much more pronounced than by day. Everything is obscure or dark.
There are a few authentic hidden side niches that most tourists overlook which are just thousands of years old tombs cut out in limestone rocks. These places were especially dark and heavy . I only managed to stay there a few minutes although, in daytime, these were my favorite little quiet spaces in a church mostly brimming with visitors and pilgrims.
A few candles only lit specific places in the church. They created long and spooky shadows. That Church has been visited for over 1700 years of history by millions and millions of people and has been revered as the most authentic relic of Christianity.
The Church has inspired and incorporated, effectively witnessed all the upheavals and glory times of Christianity. Countless historic giants have knelt or prayed there....No wonder,, there is a deeply impressive and even palpable ''historical'' spirit living in the Church.
Few people enter that Church with indifference, no matter their religious beliefs.
I rested for a while, lying flat on the cold tomb of a crusader, serving as a rude and ice-cold bench. Even in the Middle East, the nights in the Church are rather cold. After my initial religious curiosity was ''satisfied'', I started feeling less and less comfortable, until even strange inner fears gradually popped up. As if i was being present in a ''forbidden '' place, not really worthy to be there. I seem to have felt darker forces rather than soothing higher ones. As if i was continually ''being watched by invisible eyes that read my sceptical thoughts and heart.
At one point, I watched two old and small Russian orthodox nuns descend to the deepest level where the wife of Emperor Constantine found the relics of the holy Cross. After more than an hour, they did not come back, so I descended to the lowest level -without any exit, only to find it empty. I was absolutely sure that they did not pass me whilst going up again. Then, I found on the stairs a lost orthodox prayer bracelet made of black wool and cheap green plastic beads. I picked it up and took it with me as a ''souvenir''. (Months later, the bracelet would give me very unpleasant kind of strong electrical charges by touching it. I still have the bracelet in my room, now having become ''my beloved personal memory and relic'' from that memorable night.)
The time in the Church seemed to last an eternity. Around 4 o clock, It became almost unbearable. Now, the Church doors are locked and there is no way to escape. Around 5 o clock, the Muslim Guardian of the Church having the keys came to open d the huge doors. Immediately, I sneaked out past him into the fresh dark morning of a weirdly silent old Jerusalem.
Now, twenty years later, and by studying the lives of many Christian Saints, I become more and more a believing Christian again, and I now have regretted not having passed one night in the Church as a believer. (I spent 3 times in this Church) . Now, living in Spain, the desire grows to return one last time to the Middle East but now as a real pilgrim and revisit all the places related to Christianity with a profound connection.
That is to say, before the so much prophesied End Times begin. By every passing year, my chances for doing so diminish.
Thanks for your question, I allowed me to put on paper one of my (religious) life's most profound experiences.

@@jphalsberghe1 Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences in such vivid detail. I was trembling inside as I read your words.
I am here in Jerusalem on a three week visit but would not have the nerve to do what you did, although I probably would not have hesitated as an unbeliever 🤔
I am going to go to the church very early in the morning though, to be there as they open up. That's as far as my courage goes.
Before I came on this trip, I prayed for a deeper appreciation of the spiritual sites I will visit.
Your words are part of my answer to that prayer. Thank you sooo much. 🙏🏻❤️

      @@radiance65 Dear friend, few people go to Jerusalem on their own merits. Most are ''called'' to the city, and then, the city will transform them, sooner or later. Jerusalem has a ''special vibe'' as you probably already discovered. Visit the small adjacent tombs, just after the Tomb of Christ, and in front of a small Coptic-like prayer stand. You ll see a simple entrance. You may even find a treasure..(-;

Fantastic video. I've been to the church before but it was so crowded it was hard to appreciate the size of it. Seeing it empty gives a great sense of scale. I'm hoping it wont be too long before before you can use your amazing knowledge to guide tourists once again. I really enjoy your channel.

I promised to visit the Holy Land before I die. It took me 20 years to do that. Now my life is complete. I now promised to devote the rest of my life to Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.🙏
