Enjoyed this video. Thank you. Would you be able to post a drive through the KOLONAKI area? I hear so much about the area, but haven't seen any good videos yet.

Athens is a European city . The DEMOCRACY BORN THERE and actived, during ancient times, THE FATHERS OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY AS Socrates , Aristotle , Plato , etc. The PARTHENON is among one of the most important monuments of the planet and SYMBOL OF CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE WORLDWIDE . Athens has FANTASTIC SUBURBS so close to sea and the north. The southeast suburbs are gorgeous with beautiful new buildings , sea like being on an island, SPACIOUS ROADS , BIG STREETS AND CLEAN . NORTHERN SUBURBS are green , clean, with excellent construction and neoclassical buildings. THE CENTER OF ATHENS IS FULL OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS IN WHICH EVERYBODY CAN BROWSE .

Is Athens cheap compared to Spain or Italy?

Athens is as expensive as Paris

***** Paris is way ahead of Athens if your looking at expenses... it's up there with Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki. Probably the worst place to go shopping in the world unless you are rich

I will probably get a lot of hate for this and I don't really care but the truth is that looking at Athens I really don't see anything special about the city itself. Most of it seems like modern apartments and condos. I'm sure the Acropolis and other heritage sites are worth seeing, and the Greek Islands are an excellent destination for vacation but there isn't much interesting about the city of Athens itself. I think Italian cities are far more beautiful like Venice, Rome, Florence and Milan.

+Ivan & Fritz yes you are right and thats because Athens until 1830 was a village with less than 2,000 people and was not a continuing living city like Rome or Florence. Also an interesting fact, the original capital of Greece was Nafplio and not Athens

Aphrodite X I don't know that much about Greek history, but I do know Florence, Venice, Milan and other such cities were major metropolis during the Medieval ages and Renaissance, which is probably why the old city is so big and impressive... Rome of course has a very long history of being a major city ever since the Roman Era and throughout Medieval and Renaissance as well. I don't know what was happening in Athens at that time.. I just know it was a pretty major city during the time of the Greek city states but after that it was pretty much ruled over by Romans, Byzantines and then Ottomans.

Ivan & Fritz yes although the Byzantines after the 6th century were a predominately Greek speaking empire and ruled by ethnic Greek emperors and so it was not considered a foreign rule. Their major city Constantinople (Istanbul) was the center of Eastern Orthodoxy and the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox church today is in Istanbul
