You can earn discounts on MyVegas app, I used the Amex credit card to book the hotel stay, which comes with lots of benefits including free breakfast credit ($60) per day.
So your breakfast was "free" because you paid the high non-discounted room rate through Amex.
Get an MGM players card and use it when you gamble or see shows.
