I can not say thank you enough! I figured why not it won’t start anyways I can’t hurt it, before I go buy a new $500 lawnmower. Ordered the jet followed your video and popped the new one in. Fired up in one pull and is running great now. Again thank you for saving me the $490 for a $10 fuel jet.
❤❤ thank you so much. I panicked from my fathers mower breaking. And I was the last one who used it so he was going to get mad at me. All I know is that it started then stopped. I was procrastinating the fix after watching this vid weeks ago due to I didn’t trust myself. Not today. I took it apart and cleaned the jet out with water, soap and a needle and it works! Thank you so much for your vid. Other vids are not as detailed as yours. Will subscribe and like.
Good video. Right to the source. Teaches people to clean all passages carburetor related. Stop tossing out good mowers people. Pick up a screwdriver and getterrr donnneeee!👍
Thank you. Mower wouldn't start after 10yrs and was going to take it to the shop or buy a new one. Changed our spark plug and filter and still didn't work. Watched the video and in 10 minutes I had the mower going. Like you said it took longer to find the tools. I was able to clean out the line in the plastic component with a little wire. Fired right up on the first try. Good for another 10yrs.
Great video! Watched this, went out and cleaned my carb and jets, and mowed. Didn’t need to replace jets but may still buy some for future cause super easy to just swap out. 100% helped me out and saved me some money. Thank you!
thank you for the DIY got a new jet and started, first session it started blowing white smoke while cutting, might've put too much carb cleaner initially
Thanks for the video . I took it apart did option 1, sprayed the jets and used a brush to clean it out. Put it back together, started on the second pull. It is surging slightly, any idea why that would be happening?
You can clean the gunk in the main jet as many times as you want, however, it will stop up again and again because the federal government wanted fuel efficiency and as a result the opening in that main jet is 0.12-0.13" in diameter (this where all the gas to the engine must pass through). You need to drill out the main jet to .021" to make sure it does not clog up. This is the diameter of most small engines without the plastic carb and it works just fine and even better at .021". Same for any new replacement cartridges.
Awesome I'm going to try this now! A new filter and plug didn't work so this is next. Yes finding my tools takes more than 10 mins lmao. No battery powered here, love my craftsman. Thanks for the video.
This video got me to remove carb, (watch for O-ring) pull jet cartridge and get my neighbor's mower running again. Thanks for the video. My carb had an O-ring that fit inside carb where it pulls off from motor. Watch for that as mine fell out when removing and landed on frame. After getting it re-assembled I noticed an O-ring...Extra part...UGGGGG and had to figure out where it went.
I replaced the carbonator completely, brand new. It ran for a little bit, then died and now won't start back up. Any suggestions? I think it has something to do with the sled propel.
I found adding a few squirts of carb cleaner into the gas tank and trying to start it at intervals while levering the lawn mower up and down with push bar finally got mine to work. 🤷♂️
Okay, I took my plastic carb on my Briggs 500e off and took it all apart and cleaned it thoroughly. Put it back; doesn't want to start and leaks gas til tank is empty through the carb throat. I made sure all gaskets and screws were in good shape and tight. Only thing I can think of id maybe the O ring and plastic retainer at the back of the carb is defective and leaking there. Your thoughts please? thanks
Leaking gas till the tank is empty means your needle/seat/float in the carburetor is not working properly. The easiest thing to do is just get a $20 replacement carburetor from amazon or ebay. Make sure all that gas has not flowed into the engine and filled up the crankcase with gas. In other words, check the oil level and make sure it's not overfilled. If it has, you'll need to drain that all out and add new clean oil. Good luck.
@@Buckwsr Actually I tested the float/needle when I had the carb off the machine and it seemed to function well. I did buy an aftermarket carb and will install that and see what happens. Thanks for your in put; I do enjoy your videos. Keep them coming!!
@@lawrencecarroll2031I've had situations before where the smallest speck of dirt on the needle or the seat will cause it to leak and overflow...the needle was not seating fully into the seat because of the speck of dirt and it was slowly but surely flooding....
@@macknumber9 Thanks for your input. Believe it or not, it was actually the brake cable causing it to internittently start or not. I had freed it up after being frozen with rust. However it would pull the cable back far enough every time. With a new (used) cable, it started and ran fine.
Does this new jet make the engine faster? I just swapped out this part that you recommended and now I have the trap door blowing crap everywhere. It’s not sealing. Mower sounds louder..
Thx. Not a direct fix, as my engine's carburator is all metal (float, float bowl). Bought it in 2000 and still going strong. Anyway the single nut holding the bowl had small holes which I cleaned and blew into and I actually noticed the blockage free up. Back and running. Thx again.
I did this but after re-assembling, I released the clamp on the gas line and fuel started flowing out. I don’t think I had the filter housing back on just yet, was that why or did I screw this up?
I buy virtually everything online. No point running all over town to store who won't have what you need. Use mower brand and model numbers for online search. If looking for engine parts, use engine make and model numbers in your search. Good luck. See my amazon link in the video description for the carburetor jet I replace in the video.
Some carb cleaner is flammable, some is not. The stuff from walmart is not, so that will not work. The name brand stuff, like Gum-out, is flammable and will work instead of starting fluid. You could also just shoot a little gasoline into the throat of the carburetor. Good luck.
I have the same motor I bought yesterday from some young kid. The issue I have with this same motor is that it won’t start. And I think the pool string is somewhat jammed. Any tips

These newer Briggs & Stratton plastic carburetors have very little tolerance for any debris in your gas, or sitting for a long time (winter) with ethanol gas in the carburetor. What this video is showing is the main jet being taken out and replaced. What’s really going on is that some of the tiny holes which fuel passes through are clogged. I prefer to just.just clean them out as apposed to buying a new one. Most of the time this can be prevented by Not having ethanol fuel sit in your carburetor all winter. You can either run your mower out of gas before you store it for the winter or you can burn an ethanol, free gas (clear gas) in your mower.
