He was also Secretary of State during the John Quincy Adams Administration(under questionable circumstances, his political nemesis Andrew Jackson would call his appointment a "corrupt bargain, in exchange for his influence allowing to win the Election of 1824 which got sent to the House), and is nicknamed "The Great Compromiser" for his skill manuevering in the politics of slavery in the decades before the Civil War. He was instrumental in both the 1820 Missouri Compromise which delayed the Civil War until the Mexican-American War blew a hole in it and the Compromise of 1850 which unfortunately, did not do so. Guy was a true badass in his own right.
@@TrackMaster844 Yes it was but it also shows that Ali's family had a connection to being slaves and they were freed by the son of their original owner. That is what is so amazing, even though it is not talked about having the same name as the man who freed your family should have been an honor.
Yeah, Ali mentioned in his autobiography, that he didn't want the name of the original slave owner because "even though he freed the slaves, he kept the white supremacy"

Fun fact about the Muhammed Ali connection. Ali's Father was descended from a slave owned by Henry Clay, Cassius' brother.
