I recommend a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 since they were very effective this year for teams like Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Switzerland in the Euros, and Atalanta in the Europa League.
i have 2 good wingers and medicore everywhere else on my save in argentinas second division and we are broke. could you try making a tactic to get the best out of 2 conventional wingers one on each flank?
I have a suggestion. Mechida zelvia are a newly promoted team in the j1 league ( japans top league) . They happen to be top in the league so far with less quality players than the better Japanese teams and their manager is a man named go kuroda. He was a manger at a high school level in Japan for a long time and look the zelvia job last year where he promoted them right away - I think a tactical analysis on him and how they play would be interesting.
As a Japanese football geek, I’m surprised that those not from Japan actually know about Machida(this is more accurate spelling). Machida’s tactic is very much like Brentford, and will absolutely be killing it if you play with an underdog club.
I love your videos RDF. They just give you a lot to think about. I’m currently having issues with my 4-3-3 in my new lfc save. Watching your video is giving me ideas on how to improve my understanding of tactics and how to make it better. I have the players to absolutely kill games but we don’t. Hopefully I’ve learnt stuff from this video to help me. Great video!!
I've got the 433 perfected. GK (D), 2 × IWB, I use one on support & one on attack but I think you could change that slightly, maybe 2 on support would work. 2× Ball playing center backs on defend. DM-DLP (D), 2 × Mezzala 1(S), 1(A), AMR & AML Both wingers, 1 (A), 1(S). Striker is an advanced forward on attack. Make sure that your mezzala on attack is on the opposite side to your winger on attack, so if your right sided cm is a MEZ (A), your AML, left winger should be on (A) as well. I use play out of defence, run at defence, be more expressive, mentality attacking but balanced works as well, low crosses. In transition I use counter press & keep shape, distribute to cbs. Trigger press should be on the maximum & prevent short pass to goalkeeper. I use higher defensive line & high press. I do use some individual instructions but I think it's very flexible if you really need them. Basically I use tackle harder, take more risks & shoot less often for all the mezzalas & wingers. I think you could tweak everything else to your personal preference but I think what makes it work is the roles, the counter press, keep shape & the high lines. What happens is that when you attack you have players in all the attacking areas, your inverted wing backs move into center midfield, your mezzalas move into space between the wings and where an AM would play, your wingers occupy the space out wide & AF is in the middle spearheading the attack. Maybe a pressing forward would work but i don't use one as they get booked a lot & you have to change their role to use the instruction 'ease of tackles' once they've been booked. I think if anything the striker role is one that could be played with in this style, I use AF but maybe a complete forward would work. I think though where your mezz & wingers will be you don't want your striker moving into channels, a bit like how IF & inverted wingers would get in the way of your mezz.
@@jimmynich4791 this was a very interesting read. I’m currently playing so I’m gonna try building this tactic and see how well it works. For some reason, I’ve never been a fan of the BPD, I tend to go for CD’s all the time. So that’s one thing I’d most likely change. Besides that, I look forward to trying this out. Thanks!
@@velocitythe4th Yeah the BPD maybe not necessary, if you're using play out from the back it won't make that much difference I think. Sometimes it's good to tweak things to how you like them & not just set and forget. I also use the long throw for attacking throw ins, and I forgot to mention the tempo is slightly higher & passing directness I have as much shorter but they're also things you can adjust to how you want them. I haven't tried it without mezzalas but maybe it works without them, maybe an AP & BBM works or 2 BMMs, I just like the Mezz as options for the wingers to either cut the ball back to or through balls on the underlap.
Always been waiting for a video like this. Your FM tactics are really dependable, and fun to watch in the match engine! Your tactics have helped me regain interest in FM. Thanks for the video!
About that Mezzala, I like the Carrilero in that position on Run Wide with Ball, especially when you have an IF who will run into the box as the Car has the ball. The WB then supports on either flank, and it is deadly. Give it a try in your next tactic.

Very helpful video. Im new to fm. Started just about a month ago with Holstein Kiel. Im playing a 433 but it kinda sucks. Thank you so much for your explanations!!
Really enjoyed the analysis of how the tactic worked with the match engine and the tweaks you made depending on the team you are managing and the team you are playing. 👏 Would love to see similar for 4-2-3-1 mostly, but also 4-4-2 (possibly lower league tweaks and moving up through the leagues) maybe even when it may morph to a 4-2-4 - would also be interested in 3-4-3/5-2-3 and possibly other narrower formations like 4-4-2 diamond. I would also be interested in how you set up other styles but with the same formation. Anyway, great video. 👍 lots to think about
Challenge for you @RDFTactics You’ve made many tactics around managers over the years, I would love to see you do a tactics based on managers like Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman
That’s awesome man. I mean you are the best at creating tactics to FM games:) but could you make Ajax 18/19 tactic? I loved watching them play that season.
9:50 On that moment using half back allows you to be ready to breake the counter, but takes the option to recycle the ball Maybe DPL on defend give u a player closer to the ball and ready to press in case of lost of possession
would love to see machida zelvia tactics review, they're taking the j league out on a storm with their sudden challenge after just being promoted to the j league this season
Usual high level of intelligence and thought gone into this. Suggestion though. With several clubs asking for Direct Football and Counter Attacking there are very few FM youtubers tackling this. In fact 1s i have watched advertise it as a counter attack and then show a High LoW and DL with Counter-Press??! Even having "Slightly More Direct" in my current save, the Board is "Disappointed" at the lack of Direct football. Any help with 2-3 systems of this would be helpful. I know 442 is easily most obvious but my tweaks have found at times an AMC who is tall can create a good link.
Gonna be trying this in my next save , can we see either a McKenna tactic or a throwback Ajax ten hag tactic could do it from an angle of how he can recruit to recreate that same system. Great work as always 🫡
I was thinking of doing something similar but with a 3-4-2-1 formation and giving similar instructions for Attacking Midfielder. You recommend setting the pressing pressure one step down with strong teams when, for example, I am a strong team. Let's say I'm playing Chelsea and, for example, if I have a match against Liverpool, you recommend setting it this way, because I noticed that you set it this way for a weaker team and that's how I came up with this idea.
This tactic actually fit my current Man Utd team so perfectly. All the variants work well depending on the scenario, with a few tweaks as and when they're needed. One thing I noticed is that the CM and Mezzala sometimes switch by themselves during the game. Not sure why, do you know why this happens RDF?
Not sure if it is intended but the two CM are set to swap position if you check the tactic during a match (the box is in the bottom left if you want to stop swapping)
@@cocoa2905 Same on console, if you go into player instructions for any midfielder or attacker below their instructions it says swap positions with. Change it to none if you don't want them to swap

This tactic works great, however with two different teams it has the same issue that I haven't been able to solve. Doesn't happen with any of your other tactics and I cannot for the life of me find the setting that causes it.
