I do not understand what is the exact conflict with understanding the concept of “feminism”. While Sonam says she is a believer of equality, clearly recall an interview during her Veere promotions of cheering Kareena Kapoor “Go Bebo” when Kareena Kapoor quite funnily quips “I don’t believe in feminism. Feminism is indeed equality and literally means so, inspite of the “feminine” context that the spelling indicates.
Coming to the host’s question, the #metoo movement is a movement which ideally brings into focus how exploitative a patriarchal structure can become unless women vocally protest that paradigm. Now, how carefully she sidetracks that and focuses how most people get feminism wrong.
It is sometimes comical to watch a lackadiasical diligence in supporters of equality and say bizzarely conflicting stuff, especially people at a position of privilege.
So can you use ‘feminism’ in terms of equality for men? If a woman is having an unfair advantage or beating a man, can you defend a man and call yourself feminist. Feminism is equality for women and many unfortunately in fact discriminate men.
She is like the Rahul Gandhi of the film industry. She is not well read. She shouldn't have said that. It's so easy to tell from the way she speaks
