    Finally, I was able to find something to video and share with you without 'The Man' jumpin on my back! My fellow colleague Cody was tasked last week with doing the actual retrofit to the HVAC controls on our little package unit for our server closet. I was of course happy to provide some assistance as long as I could squeeze in some video footage etc.
    I am really proud of putting together these next few videos about the retrofit I hope that you learn something new from them.
    Questions About Installing Building Automation Controllers
    This of course is only one simple controller of a single unit, but it still is a new additon to our existing Building Automation System in our building. So, based on what you have seen thus far... What ya got for me?! I've scratched the surface so I know there are questions out there...

    Direct Digital Controls typically refers to electronic controls systems and controllers that can network or communicate between each other.

    No problem glad it helps... Gotta get some more actual work on video which is hard when I am not in the field as much and some customers don't exactly like having their facility on video. ;)

    Thank you! I've been following all of your videos! Very helpful for a non-technical person like myself!

    Good video. Believe it or not, an 18k btu unit wouldn't be considered as an oversized unit for a server closet at the school board. The dehumidification feature will keep the humidity in check. The school board is full of server closets. We recently put in a 3 ton Toshiba mini split to cool a 10 X 10 server room.

    I am not quite sure I completely understand your questions, but typically speaking you don't have many line(high) voltage stats in the Building Automation Industry. What you are speaking of might be mixing up two different lines of thinking on how an A/C unit is controlled.
    Almost all controls thermostats are low voltage which then use relays and contactors to turn on and off higher voltage motors, compressors and other equipment that are powered by 120/220VAC.

    Hey Mike... I actually already filmed some videos of me installing their software and need to make a few more playing with the programming etc. The software you want is the Maxim Software Bundle.

    Controling sequence: room temp above set point: energize compressor relay, energize blower fan relay. If evap coil temp drop below set point: de energize compressor relay, keep energize blower fan relay. De energize compressor rely when room temp falls below set point. After 5 mins de energize blower fan relay.

    I believe it was a DAC-606 since there wasn't a need for any analog outputs. It may have been a DAC-304, can't remember anymore, but it was one of those two.

    Well I don't work with Carrier Controls at all... other than maybe pulling them out, but I love me some Belimo Actuators and will be putting out some more videos that will include them.

    If the building had a central plant (Hot/Chill water), the reasoning is the MDF/IDF's will always be served/cooled, regardless of the occupancy schedules, or whether the BAS is knocked off line, at least that is my understanding.

  • @timtoolman1953
    @timtoolman1953 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a verification/pre-commissioning tech at my previous job, I noticed in the school buildings I was involved with the following. In almost every case, the MDF/IDF rooms' systems were stand-alone (not connected for CONTROL to the BAS) but, the BAS in almost every case DID have a monitoring sensor. I know this is nice little project to demonstrate techniques, but the advantage for you as the space occupant will be. . . ?

    Very Good Information on Automation, what would you do in this world of several different manufactures of controls and their own systems where would one start learning these new systems, with one brand or generally get the basic concept of all brand-systems, are there any good documentations or books you can suggest? Thanks..

    Great job on how to and what is what people just dont take the time to explain the small details. Im 51 and just getting into controls some days i feel so lost and just cant get stright answers, but its coming im working on commercial buildings Can you do some wiring and landing several end devices on a control and show how to commission thank you. Great video. So at the end what exactly did you end up controlling? Was it Start/Stop , status, and fan speeds?

    If you could do a through communicating stat video that would be great.....I understand the 4 wire system, what I dont understand is how Exactly is its signal receiving an sending.......is it just resistance from a power up transmitter in the stat? Thx

    Can you make videos about carrier comfort controller 1600,6400 universal controller, bellimo actuators, ba/ea1 cards from BAPI,co2 sensors, tempeture sensors. all working together with some trouble shooting.

    Can you wire and existing unit thermostat signal to a DDC and wire from the DDC to a temperature sensor? or does this have to have a special unit controller?

    Hi Abel, I am getting ready to invest some of my own $ in Alerton training. I am finding that companies who train in controls only want to offer that info to their customers. The local Alerton distributor will let our company in but my questions is this: What can I do to gain enough controls training to either be a top tech in our company or start my own? Thanks - great blog!

    Humidity control is important for servors, to much can cause corrosion, too little causes static electricity.

    and please also tell me a little information connection of 3ph unit.

    I was looking at the web site innotech and wanted to know which is a good software to start with.

  • @TheControlsFreak
    @TheControlsFreak  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok so this is a very late reply, but 1. I would never recommend you spend money buying controls equipment on your own to try and 'figure it out'. However, I recently found a good controls system software that is ABSOLUTELY FREE... Innotech - HVAC Controls & Building Automation Systems
    Later on I hope to make some videos using that software since it is FREE and anyone who watches my videos can DL it too and follow along.

    What is mean DDC? Does it invertor control to AHU/CDU ?

  • @TheControlsFreak
    @TheControlsFreak  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    All I can say to your last sentence is... Please call a licensed and experienced Electrician if you feel you need to learn more about 3ph wiring to work on a thermostat.
    Because I am afraid for you otherwise.... ;)

    How much you get paid yearly?

    • @TheControlsFreak
      @TheControlsFreak  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well this is a broad question. Someone starting out with no experience in Texas... could start as an installation technician for anywhere from $15-$18/hr. If you have several years of previous experience and are wanting a project management or engineering position you can be making $50k-$100k/year
