Just a quick video I wanted to share, as I was surprised at the changes to lighting and shadows! • Twitter: / docsplays • Facebook: / docsplays • With music by Daniel Yount: www.danielyount...
I believe textures and polygon count has been improved in the new zones and on Pandaren, older areas for the most part already had a bit of an improvement in the texture department for Cataclysm. Unfortunately older races still have horribly low res textures and polygon counts, but apparently they're already working on revamping them.
Aside from the point, WoW was never known for it's realistic graphics. In fact, blizzard has stated multiple times that the art style of the game is "painterly", meaning something abstract. I love the art style of WoW, and it keeps getting more and more beautiful each expansion. Sure, I do wish they'd enhance some textures on old structures and zones, but it's the furthest thing from game-breaking. And the polygon thing should really only apply to the character models, which they're doing.
Textures are clearly better in MoP zones and on models. Models have higher polygon counts and more detailed frames, there's ambient occlusion and there's an obvious improvement to the lighting system.
the shades look the game so much better and it improves the overall artistic feel of the game, it isnt supposed to make it look like crysis. take for example the new OoT 3d remake, its the same thing, they could have made it better but they just wanted to make it match their original art. same with wow
Yeah I can see why some people may not like it, since shadows are a bit more pronounced. Right now the new option is in the graphics settings, but disabling it doesn't seem to work as far as I can tell. It's only beta right now though so I'm sure you'll be able to disable it in live.
Yeah apparently according to an interview with someone at Blizzard I saw a while ago on MMO-Champion. They may get the new Dwarf models in before the expansion is released, and they'll just go through each race when they can.
This may be 2012.. but the game was released in 2004. What people dont realize is the amount of work that goes into changing and upgrading the graphic engines in a game that is still being played 24 / 7.It would need to be taken completely offline for much longer than just an 8 hour maintenence session. Patching can only improve so much and what they have improved and are still actively trying to improve should show how much time Blizzard puts into their games. People need to be more sypathetic
considering the game was in development in 2001-ish,and is still running off of a modified Wc3 engine..pretty impressive, the graphics are old and campy but the 10,000,000+ subscribers is evidence that a lot of people don't care. I'm not gonna play MoP but best of luck with the phat loots for those of you that do.
I'm a bit disappointed that the former most played game in the entire world is not being able to catch up with the newer game graphics, I wished they improved because we all know it is possible for them to do however, they'll lose a lot of members.
In my opinion, World of warcraft's graphics are brilliant, and most awesome from an MMORPG's out here, besides from games like Tera or Rift. Yet, WoW's graphics gives a huge intensity on its atmosphere and it still improving. Just look at the Pandarens place, it's truly amazing. Im not a WoW fan, because i only played the Official for 30 days, yet i must say, this is the most interesting MMORPG i have played. Starting from WoW, ending with Mists of Pandaria. Conclusion : It's a Masterpiece :p.
He has no idea what he's talking about. MoP offers an improvement that reminds us of at least 2004. For an MMO game this big, this is huge... Blizzard rly worked hard for the new lighting system and for some new models...
WoW is a fucking Skinner box. It's not the fault of the player that they have been reduced to little more than rats in a successful money-making science experiment. I am sure that if you could ask the rats that get a hit of cocaine when they pull a lever how much fun they're having, they'd probably tell you they're having a blast.
From your original post: "I am sure that if you could ask the rats that get a hit of cocaine when they pull a lever how much fun they're having, they'd probably tell you they're having a blast." I'm aware of the concept you're referencing, and it's still stupid. The basic idea is that you pay them money and they *GASP* give you continued content(and thus a reason to keep playing)! How terrible. I sure hope nobody bases their entire economy on such an idea or anything. That'd totally suck.
WoW IS a good game and I never denied that. In fact, my first reply to you said "It is a good game but...". I think it's not a bad game but it's definitely not the best either. Regarding your previous point however, I know many F2P games which are better than WoW. (P.S. I agree with most of his points except the balance one. Some classes are way weaker than others while some are ridiculously OP. Unless you're in raids with a party, you'll more than often end up being worthless.)
i have a question: when i look at screenshots from pandaria it looks much better and improved. but that was just for pandaria. will the other continents like eastern kindgom, kalimdor and northren have better graphics like the new continent does?
I have played all the MMO's out there, i have my own opinion about the game, and i truly think it's the best one made in the MMORPG genre. Gladly it doesnt turn in f2p like Rift will, which will ruin it as much as it ruined Tera.
Just comparing it with multiplayer games... But in the MMORPG genre, it really has the best story... Or had, because the new Elder Scrolls online is coming out and I feel like it will be the best in the genre once it f2p...
Bottom line is that nobody plays World of Warcraft for the graphics alone... Blizzard need to have more graphical options like HD texture packs available for download. Or let people themselves create high resolution texture packs or create shaders to use with WoW. The graphics engine and the textures and polygons were outdated even in Burning Crusade. For now just use ENB+FXAA to enhance the graphics in WoW.
What graphics card do you have. I play on full graphics on the same resolution as you but in Goldshire i dont get the seperation of the leaves from the tree i use a Radeon Hd 6870 & a i5 3.3ghz processor
If you want to get everything faster, other than that it's just grinding and slow processing of boring quests. I have seen you were watching the top ten reasons, well i agree with them, because that's not all which makes the WoW a good game.
It would be nice to have something interesting to look at while shitting in a bucket, neglecting my personal hygiene, and watching numbers slowly get bigger.
It's a pure slow grinding with a non-target system which was really cool, but the way they did this slow grinding made this non-target system boring and the quests aren't fun. I have to admit i played because of Elin character, and it was interesting until level 3. It did not get me to play this game next time because it is not catchy and does not make a feel of "oh i want to play this game" after what you've experienced through the starting levels. I know it's all the small things, probably.
only difference i see is the shadows thats it i hate the fact how other mmorpg games such as rift and guild wars 2 are making this game look like shit but i still love wow
the graphics for this game really suck.........it's 2013 not 2001. I'm surprised to see this game has such a strong following. Visuals are important to me just as much as gameplay and content are.
Cocaine is just one example of reward that you can use in a skinner box. It was not a comparison of WoW to drugs. The basic idea of WoW is that you feed them money, and they give you a product that has remained largely the same since its inception. People who aren't in the thrall of WoW's operant conditioning are in the unique position of being able to call "bullshit" when Blizzard releases an expansion that does little to improve on their 8 year old graphics.
WoW has actually aged very well, compared to other games from the same era that went for more realistic graphics. WoW looks blocky and cartoony *on purpose*, because the less realistic the graphics, the better they age. Hyper-realistic graphics look like shit within just a couple of years.
So are they (did they) increase any amount of textures for the game? As it stands now looking at the graphics really 'hurts' (sarcasm) my eyes and the muddy textures currently in game just doesn't coincide with 2012. Need more textures and polygons.
But the complicated UI with all the equipment system is weird. You will be fed up with going from 1 side of th map to another in order to get a low quest just like Aion. To be honest even RaiderZ was more interesting for a longer time than Tera.
Show me graphics of WoW from pre-MoP that look as good as they do now. Take off the fanboy glasses or go back to watching your character in GW2 auto attack bosses without having to do anything. (no exaggeration, I can prove this theory, leave auto attack on and kill bosses).
lol I still haven't gone over that one... I don't know why I played it in the first place... Maybe it was the nice look it had but looks aren't everything... :P
they don't have much time to update our races, who they work on hardly, and you want more graphic increase? Think about how big wow is. It is really hard job. Blizz didn't lose their creativity or something, they just doing too much things, and they can't do it altogether.
I recall i did say i played all the MMORPG's that atleast somehow can be called a MMORPG. They obviously aren't close to WoW. My meaning of masterpiece is that the WoW is the most awesome MMORPG out there, maybe, some day there will be a better one, i bet there will, because every game gets ruined by time and so will WoW, it starts to be ruined already. x) But let's see what will happen next, instead of guessing. Free mmorpg's lack of donation to win, obviously games like Aion.
Because we all know f2p always destroys multiplayer games... For example look how devestated LoL, DoTA, HoN and Smite are. Look at the terrible disaster of DCU online, Runes of Magic, 4story, Age of Wushu etc.etc. These games have no fanbase and they will be forgotten in history like remnants of a completely disastrous F2P strategy which never produced any income for a company... >_> Seriously though, don't bash it till you try it... F2p doesn't mean bad. It just means free...
Every class has it's own weakness, so there shall be a way of countering, like in LoL. Could i then know which mmorpg is better than a WoW? And im talking about mmorpg, not just mmo's, because there is obviously a better games in other genres. c:
Would be great if it would be p2p, that would atleast get rid off from 10 year old's playing skyrim because it got mainstream, same thing will be with Elder Scrolls Online. I really look up to that game and hopefully it does not gets boring. Because expectations not always is true, i had a good expectations about tera, but then i played it... It's... bad.
Haven't played in years, man. But if it helps you feel better about yourself, by all means feel free to continue your little ad hominem tirades against anyone who replies to you.
And tell me, does average player able to play it?MEDIUM setting of a HIGH graphic game make the game look worse compared to a HIGH setting of a MEDIUM graphic game.
So what you're basically saying is that it's fun enough to keep you playing, and it costs money? That sounds either really terrible or like EVERY OTHER FUCKING FORM OF MEDIA IN SOCIETY.
Simple features of typical mmorpgs as i see, just an unique style ._. DK looks like one more asian mmorpg which gets boring after 20 level grinding. I do agree wushu is good, but not... not as good. Fallen earth is a MMO with elements of rpg. One does not simply jump over WoW with 2 years development.
I believe textures and polygon count has been improved in the new zones and on Pandaren, older areas for the most part already had a bit of an improvement in the texture department for Cataclysm.
Unfortunately older races still have horribly low res textures and polygon counts, but apparently they're already working on revamping them.
I didn't notice too much of a difference but I'm glad they made a real sky as opposed to sky.jpg the whole time
Aside from the point, WoW was never known for it's realistic graphics. In fact, blizzard has stated multiple times that the art style of the game is "painterly", meaning something abstract. Sure, I do wish they'd enhance some textures on old structures and zones, but it's the furthest thing from game-breaking. And the polygon thing should really only apply to the character models, which they're doing.
Its awesome and the song makes you see what beaty wow is. And i hope they add the season change thing
very cool. this shows how an old game can still look good.
Textures are clearly better in MoP zones and on models. Models have higher polygon counts and more detailed frames, there's ambient occlusion and there's an obvious improvement to the lighting system.

You'll be back.

I´ve been outside this morning the graphics was very nice.

more colors, cool
considering the game was in development in 2001-ish,and is still running off of a modified Wc3 engine..pretty impressive, the graphics are old and campy but the 10,000,000+ subscribers is evidence that a lot of people don't care. about time they made night darker !!!!!!!!
I'm a bit disappointed that the former most played game in the entire world is not being able to catch up with the newer game graphics, I wished they improved because we all know it is possible for them to do however, they'll lose a lot of members.

FINALLY, NIGHT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE NIGHT!
Fuck yeah
looks like blizz did a major update to they're rendering and materials part of the engine.
if you look at the pandaren area, the graphics are really nice but they should work on the other races and starting zones.
Thanks to this I went from having 60 FPS on High settings to topping out at 50 FPS on Low
There are no skyboxes in the old zones. That`s why they can`t change them. Just procedural sky. First skybox was used in Nagrand.
He has no idea what he's talking about. MoP offers an improvement that reminds us of at least 2004. For an MMO game this big, this is huge... Blizzard rly worked hard for the new lighting system and for some new models...
I can't see any real difference. The new graphics look a little fuzzier, perhaps... completely underwhelming.
Yes, I want darker nights!

DARKER NIGHTS! YES!
Correction to previous comment I deleted: Wow has the best lore in a MULTIPLAYER game after League of Legends which has 2 books worth of lore...
WoW IS a good game and I never denied that. In fact, my first reply to you said "It is a good game but...". I think it's not a bad game but it's definitely not the best either. Finally Blizzard made the graphics better... Only the water is missing
I have played all the MMO's out there, i have my own opinion about the game, and i truly think it's the best one made in the MMORPG genre.

I dont know about you but I dont think they have updated anything part from shaders. possibly from default shader model 2.0 to 3.0 and beyond
nights are actualy dark. nice

Duskwood certainly looks better. The hit on performance is noticeable though =(
If you want to get everything faster, other than that it's just grinding and slow processing of boring quests.
I have seen you were watching the top ten reasons, well i agree with them, because that's not all which makes the WoW a good game.
well the thing is that in BC i could do 25man raids with 100 fps, now the graphics looks almost the same and i have 17 fps..
It would be nice to have something interesting to look at while shitting in a bucket, neglecting my personal hygiene, and watching numbers slowly get bigger.
Hehe, now that you mentioned it, yeah, the skyboxes in Azeroth are starting to look really old :/
It's a pure slow grinding with a non-target system which was really cool, but the way they did this slow grinding made this non-target system boring and the quests aren't fun.

Woot im back down to low graphics!!!

Why do you consider it to be bad? I'm not disagreeing with you. Just asking for opinions...
They're only limited on what they want to do. Not the engine. Engines can be replaced/updated.
It just add some realistic, the shadow and all.
So are they (did they) increase any amount of textures for the game? As it stands now looking at the graphics really 'hurts' (sarcasm) my eyes and the muddy textures currently in game just doesn't coincide with 2012. Need more textures and polygons.
I prefer old personaly.. I don't like a spam of shadows in games.. habitualy even disable all xD. I hope ther will be an option for that.
But the complicated UI with all the equipment system is weird.

Your sure they are doing a revamp
DC Universe for one, is better. Then we have the newly published Age of Wushu, DK online and Fallen Earth...
they don't have much time to update our races, who they work on hardly, and you want more graphic increase? Think about how big wow is. It is really hard job. Blizz didn't lose their creativity or something, they just doing too much things, and they can't do it altogether.

anyone else think the "old" looked the same if not better than the "new" in this video? Fail video for comparison sakes.
All I see is DirectX 10 Shadowing on the LEFT and DirectX 9 Shadowing on the RIGHT.
Lipstick on a pig to me.
Every class has it's own weakness, so there shall be a way of countering, like in LoL.
Could i then know which mmorpg is better than a WoW?
And im talking about mmorpg, not just mmo's, because there is obviously a better games in other genres. c:
Or the brightness of the game.
"new"
what are ur computer specs
What? they made shadows darker and added in some LOD? this sucks.
It's... bad.
so cool almost the same hope they would make not so cartoony graphics its almost for 6 years and its like fu king annoying, i better play gw2
Not real , but better !
Haven't played in years, man. But if it helps you feel better about yourself, by all means feel free to continue your little ad hominem tirades against anyone who replies to you.
Real nigth, Omg
more shadows....thats it
Hormer Fitzgerald *darker, not more
And tell me, does average player able to play it?MEDIUM setting of a HIGH graphic game make the game look worse compared to a HIGH setting of a MEDIUM graphic game.
i cant even run high settings!! damn dual cores!!
So what you're basically saying is that it's fun enough to keep you playing, and it costs money?
That sounds either really terrible or like EVERY OTHER FUCKING FORM OF MEDIA IN SOCIETY.
lmao they updated the water in lich king..you shouldve seen it in TBC :D
Better they fixed game classes . I was more than happy with vanilla graphics . so game balance > over shit wasting time on graphics.
then turn the graphics down.... they didn't make it so you can't do that.... just saying
thumbs up if your sick of whispering youtube videos
:tomcruise:
Lol i know, yet it got me going because of interesting quests it had. xD.
the first ever 3d mmorpg was everquest. probably the worst graphics out there(great game) so no its not from the late 90's
1:10 old looks better here
And, LoL is a moba styled game, im talking about MMORPGS ;p.
The Elder Scrolls Online is coming, good bye WoW
same shit, like usial
Simple features of typical mmorpgs as i see, just an unique style ._.
DK looks like one more asian mmorpg which gets boring after 20 level grinding.
I do agree wushu is good, but not... not as good.
Fallen earth is a MMO with elements of rpg.

"Months ago."
This terrible game still looks like something from the late 90s.
Ear sex.
new better.old too yellowish
The graphics still look like complete shit for an RPG (This coming form a Minecraft fan)
lol RaiderZ... xD
