I've seen cheaper versions of this pen/magnet over the years. The cost is way too high!!! And frankly it's just a gimmick, that overtime, gets put away and forgotten about. Thanks for your review, James.

FYI, the point of the "quick brown fox" sentence is that it uses every letter of the alphabet which is why you see it in typeface samples. But in your variation it's missing the D and the G, which is why normally you see "lazy dog" instead of "lazy river".

I think this one is like some of the other pens you have reviewed, way overpriced. I feel like some of these companies price themselves out of the market and end up failing. For even $20 I personally would probably pass, but I feel like way more people would be interested at that price point.

  • @luie1

    • @martinj3239
      @martinj3239 ปีที่แล้ว +2

How easy it is to lose the cap is really the biggest downside for me. Since it doesn't work without the cap it makes the fancy pen a regular expensive pen. They should have added at least one or two replacement caps.

Very cool concept, although I've seen similar items over the years for less cost. While I'm a fan of thin lines and smooth flowing ink, that would be a $72.00 cat toy around my house. The first time either kitty noticed it would move would likely be the last time I ever saw it, at least until I de-cattoyed the underside of the furniture.

when i was a kid my great grandpa had a pen at his desk that was made out of wood ( probably had magnets inside ) and it had a wooden C-ish shaped stand, and when he would be finished writing with it, he would place the pen in between the C shape stand and it would hover in air, and it didnt have a goofy cap that needed to be there to work, if this product didnt have the cap, i think it would be ALOT better, also the pen my great grandfather had was not expensive either

I think the prices I guess average for what it supposed to be. People spend a lot of money on fountain pens. Mont Blanc is one of the most expensive pens in the world. But yet people still pay that crazy amounts of money for them. So 72 for what this is is par for the course.

    • @tarille1043

Though, one of the draws to fountain pens (Also, other high end pens) is the versatility of ink usage. Due to using a resevoir you can buy bottles of ink to use in them.
While this thing uses specific cartriges, so you have limited options for inks.

There's no way I'd ever pay that price for a pen. The novely will wear off pretty quickly and I guarantee you that thanks to the large metal bars most people won't even notice the pen is being suspended unless you point it out. It'd be different if it was actually hovering (man, I hate this trend of putting "hover" on the name of something that's absolutely _not_ hovering), but it'd still wouldn't be worth the price for me. I guarantee you there are pens out there that work just as well or even better for much cheaper.

As an aside to the topic of pens, my favorite "pen" story is this:
In the history of NASA, they wanted the astronauts to have the ability to write in space, and ink in a traditional pen doesn't flow. So companies were tasked to develop a pen to work in space. Obviously, the "Space Pen" was born, after A LOT of TIME, MONEY and EFFORT.
At the same time, the Soviet Union wanted to be able to write in space as well, but their solution took very little time and effort, and was VERY inexpensive. Their solution to writing in space; A PENCIL.

the AliExpress version was about 7-9$ from what i remember lol
why would anyone spend any amount over 5$ for a standard chinese pen regardless of how "premium" it may be is beyond me, if this was a novelty personalized parker pen than sure those are very pricy, but for a regular ole cheap sub 5$ pen with a 4 magnet "stand"? pff only true suckers would pay 72$ for that, the 7-9$ version from aliexpress is reasonably priced for something silly like this, but the Hoverpen rebranded one? such a ripoff...

For that price I would expect an actually ergonomic, aluminum body, a good looking stand, more than a single recharge, and less flimsy cap. Aka things that you can get from pens that are less than a third of the price.

I don’t care if it can float or balance or have powers, I’m not paying $72 for a pen with only 1 refill smh, should’ve had atleast 3 refills.

Why is the quick brown fox jumping over a lazy river? The Fox was supposed to jump over the Dog. Where did the dog go?

$72 for a pen is insane. People need to stop trying to make "The Apple of ____" for every little product.

Too bad you can't stick the cap on the end of the pen while using it. Then there's the price: $94 CDN! Uh no.
