I once heard that on shabbos even musical instruments are forbidden because on shabbos we are so holy and close to god that that there is no place for instruments because we alone with our souls cleave to him without instruments to raise us to Him. So we just use our souls and mouths and fly high to God!
The women are caring and spending time with the children and the men spend their time in devotion to gd (through food, drink, learning torah, prayer, etc.) to bring blessing to the home and their families. It is a very good balance and everyone knows and understands their respective roles and it works beautifully.
