Our boy seems a bit confused about the traditional martial art thang ta so ive come once again to clear it U see meitei is originally and of necessity a warrior community, our history is filled with constant wars with neighbouring kingdoms like khagi (china), nagaland, mizoram, tripura and burma and once manipur even conqured the upper burma and few china area etc in ancient times so being a kingdom surrounded by enemies from every direction and being a descendants of hill tribe we meiteis have created our own martial arts named huyen langlon (huyen= ancient word for war and langlon= art/knowledge) from which came thang ta (thang= sword and ta or timen= spear) which is the form of fighting wars with weapons on hand now its not just sword and spear just bc the name implies both the weapon only no it includes many and various types of other weapons like axes, dao, shovel etc and the another form is sarit sarat which is the form of fighting armed or unarmed enemies with hands and foot (unarmed to be more precise) which includes various hand strikes, pressure points, locks, kicks, knees, elbows etc and lastly theres the traditional wrestling called mukna which is a sort of belt wrestling. In the ancient time when manipur was known as meitrabak or kangleipak when it was the era king ruled the kingdom it was mandatory for every household to have a family member to learn this martial art form mainly men and boys as the ancient manipur was filled with dense jungles and forests and so for livelihood people had to go in such places to gather woods, plants, animals etc so chances were mediumly high that they were gonna encounter dangerous animals on the way and they would have to defend themselves with mainly sword and spear which they regularly carry around just in case and for another reason as to defend land and attack another kingdoms and tribes when time comes so it was understandably necessary to learn this art of war in the ancient times, the arts origin is a controversial topic on accurate history but its universally accepted that this warfare art developed from battle experienced warriors of meiteis due to its effectiveness on the battlefield on the other hand mythology claims that this art was developed from ipudhou pakhangba (the serpentine supreme dragon god and the father of the 7 clan of meiteis) and sidaba mapu (the father of ipudhou, lainingthou and the god of god) when he created the universe he used the movement of thengou from which came thang ta. After the british took over manipur they immediately put a banned on learning of this art and forcefully war weapons were made to surrender and anyone found go be training this art was liable to harsh punishment of death and exiled to foreign land due to the nightmare they faced in the battlefield when they saw meitei warriors cutting the whips of bombs they threw from hilltop mid air and the deaths which came from indulging in hand to hand combat with the meiteis, but thankfully some masters continued teaching this art secretly in forests and countryside and thus after the beitish left manipur this art started increasing and now its even played as sports where two palyers equped with dummy sword and shield spars each other which is called cheibi funaba. There ya go
How manipur would have been if these illegal kukis were not there. If only naga and meitei were so wise earlier, we would have been one of the most peaceful place. I am nepali but I know how much naga and meitei are good. Now our home has been demolished by kuki. Kuki militant take taxes from us(nepalese) and if we do not give them they beat us up and now we have to either settle to meiteis inhabitants place or nagas inhabitants land. But I am in oman and my family shifted to Imphal and Siliguri just to escape the attrocities of kuki. I just want to make sure sure kuki please let us stay together and make the world a beautiful. Violence is not the solutions. Killing people is not good
