I still remember watching this as a kid at my grandmother’s house weekdays at 1:30 est on CBS. Before finding this on TH-cam, The music during the period, I would hum out loud or heard in my thoughts when I was just relaxing at times. I miss those days. Now the remaining soaps are redundant and trashy. Daytime TV is a junkyard and prime time isn’t much better. Gone are the days when you would watch a drama series and hear the great opening theme which got everyone ready to watch their favorite program ie Dallas ATWT etc. thank you for posting
I have waited sooooooooooooooooooooooo long to see a clear version of this show's magnificent closing sequence. Thank you so much!!!! Please include them on your future 37 minute uploads. I'm still at a loss as to why they are not already there on your many other uploads. That gorgeous bold theme, title, globe design along with that g r a d u a l credit crawl brings back so many wonderful memories for me. When I started watching in college in 1978 this is the title sequence they were already using and I simply adored it. I love the way the cast and crew section credits were "staggered". This particular spinning globe design is the best one they ever had in their entire run. That gradual spin and light blue color made it look so realistic like you were sitting on the moon watching the world turn. I was heart broken when this title package went away in late 1981 after watching it for a mere 3 years. I simply never forgot it...
When I was a little guy I used to sit with my mom in the living room watching the soaps on the old cabinet-style B&W while she ironed: Love of Life (30 minutes) at noon; a locally produced homemaking show from 12:30 -1; The Guiding Light (they later dropped the definite article) and Search for tomorrow (15 minutes each) from 1-130- and ATWT (30 minutes). from 130-200. Almost nothing makes me nostalgic and miss my mom like remembering that.
Same here.. my mother ironed by the HOUR to those same soaps..I sat and watched them with her when I was really little..even before 1st grade, seems like.
As a kid, if I could get through my late grandmother's soap opera afternoon schedule, (ATWT was one of her favorites) it made it all worth it when the "kiddie shows" came on around 3pm...R.I.P., Grandmother Buford.
12:30 Central after the noon news. In Dallas on KDFW 4 (now Fox), with "Police Report" on Fridays, an inner look at the workings of your Dallas Police Department from Chief Frank Dyson. In Corpus on KZTV 10 with the immortal Walter Furley. In OKC on KWTV 9, where the news included the farm report with footage of the stockyards, brought to you by Evergreen Feeds, and where the announcer replaced "This is CBS" with "This program came to you from CBS."
These are the last real credits we have until January. We don't have every episode so possibly they aired on the missing days. There's no way to narrow down Marland's exact episodes (started shortly after this one) since he's never listed in the credits on the available episodes.
Is this upload here the opening. bumper and closing sequences from an actual broadcast of "As the World Turns?" They just appear too flawless and vivid to be authentic period sequences from 1979, the date listed in your description. In any event, they are nice-appearing and sounding. And I certainly remember when daytime television sequences did appear that perfect, even in the days pre-cable and pre-HDTV, with only rabbit ears antennae.
This aired during the several months that Joyce was presumed to have been killed in an accident where the car she was driving (Dr. Bob's) went off a bridge and into a river (although her body wasn't recovered) and Don & Mary were trying to move on. Per the SOD synopsis back then Chris & Don were discussing Don's getting a divorce in absentia from Joyce on the grounds of desertion (since it would take 7 years to get someone declared legally dead). Obviously later in the Oakdale universe the Hughes had the clout of the Kennedys since they at the end of 1979 (less than 6 months after Joyce's accident) got a court order declaring her legally dead (so that Don and Mary could marry). Of course right after that, Joyce shows up very much alive (at least Don & Mary didn't marry yet or that would have created a huge pickle since Joyce was still legally married to Don - or would be once the court order was rescinded).
This is not the piano/organ/celeste version of the ATWT theme. This is the orchestral version. Here is a link to three days' worth of the piano/organ/celeste version which I originally recorded on a reel-to-reel tape recorder that was set up in front of my TV speaker while the shows were airing. th-cam.com/video/3s2Jdhpkhpw/w-d-xo.html Charlie used a Steinway grand piano, a Hammond B-3 organ, and a Simone celeste.
O Chenault sadly, what made these soaps were mainly good storylines, good actors. Soaps back then had a little sexual ingredient to peak interest but not now. If they brought a soap like this back and used their old formula, Young people would not like it because they’ve grown up on much faster and almost pornographic acting that soaps are famous for now. I btw, am NOT a prude. I am just speaking with my opinion. But again, I totally would love to have them back. But the older way not the current direction. 😊👍
I think it was during Helen Walkers’ scene on November 22nd 1963 when CBS, interrupted programming because John F Kennedy was assassinated. Her and Lisa Shea Coleman were my favorite gals on that show
Saxon C That’s correct. Helen Wagner (Nancy) and Grandpa Hughes (Santos Ortega) were in a scene when it was interrupted by Walter Cronkite informing viewers of President Kennedy being shot. They carried on the scene not knowing what was happening, and the full uninterrupted episode is available to view at the Paley Center for Media.
Correct - Nancy and Grandpa were discussing Bob's desire to have Lisa & Tom invited over for Thanksgiving dinner on account of they'd be otherwise alone (Bob & Lisa had divorced by then). In the middle of some of Nancy's dialogue to Grandpa (think it was the 2nd scene) is when Walter Cronkite and CBS News broke into the program to announce JFK's shooting. The cast & crew carried on the rest of the live episode as if nothing were happening out there (the powers that be decided not to inform them until after the broadcast ended as they didn't want them to be upset & have that interfere with their performances).
Brings tears to my eyes. Reminds me so much of simpler times.

they had choice but to retire the original atwt theme.

This really brought back memories my grandmother would watch this thank you for this clip.

Still love the live organ version the best.

I really like this theme.althoughvI grew up with the 80/early 9th theme this one is more beautiful and dramatic .
I keep forgetting Hunt and Ellis were still there at this time. When did Marland's material start?
Wait, ED TRACH WAS EICOP (executive in charge of production)
Which organ was Charles Paul playing in this recording? I'm guessing Hammond, but I'd really like to know which model specifically.

Bring this soap back

My family watched As the World Turns beginning with my grandmother mother sister and former gf so I felt the Hughes family is a classic

I'm going to assume that the episode this day had to do with ATWT killing off Emily's father Dan Stewart
Freddy Bartholomew. Yep, same person.
Menswear from Barney's
How did DanCullogh died
How did Dan McCullough died
Vintage openings were 😑
