Not sure, maybe. Da Vinci did die about 45 years before Shakespeare's birth and they were from different countries. Da Vinci was a big name though so it is possible his name was thrown around during the time of Shakespeare, but without the advancements of information trading of today I'm not too sure. Like you said though, it is possible Shakespeare would instantly recognize Da Vinci.
