It is amazing how NYC has changed since 1941. In 1941, Staten Island/Queens voted for Democrats, while Manhattan, Bronx, and Brooklyn voted for Republicans. Today, it is the opposite. Staten Island votes for Republicans with parts of Queens. Bronx and Brooklyn are strong Democratic strongholds. Manhattan used to competitive due to its wealth, but votes for Democrats now.

The parties have changed a lot as well, though. Despite being Republican, La Guardia was a democratic socialist.

No. Maybe in mayoral or local election or in that certain election they voted Republican because local Republicans will adopt New York City values (like he said la guardia was a democratic socialist) but in presidential elections it was heavily democratic. The Republicans have only won manhattan three times in history. 1896, 1920, and 1924. Brooklyn and Bronx are similar

the fact that twice as many people voted in the mayoral election of 1941 than 2021, despite the fact that the population only grew, is insane

The city went downhill when Deblasio was elected. Both him and Adams have been a disaster. They make the Bloomberg years look like the city’s glory days. As much as I don’t like Bloomberg personally, looking back at his mayorship I have to give him credit for continuing to keep the city safe and growing for the 12 years following 9/11.

Interesting that Erica Adams have lowest approval rating since the 1990's. They will probably elect a Democrat again. It's like Argentina before Milei. They never learned. Corruption is part of it of course but the narrow mindedness and intolerance when it comes to alternative views is outstanding imo.
