Being French, I had to take the 485R. After 3 years with it, it's totally mind blowing. Its NA engine revs up to 8700 RPM, that's almost S2000 territory ! It sounds brilliant, it's unbeatable on track and it wants to kill you on wet roads.
Every reviewer I've ever seen wants one, but could you live with it after the initial shock has worn off? I reckon a 420R with sequential box would be perfect. The 620R is just too much work.
...and I would agree, although if you ever wanted to do a track day (which I feel is a must in a Caterham) then you’ll be gutted you didn’t have that extra power if you were in one of the others.
Not only "more than enough" but actually more fun on the road than the higher powered version. I used to have a JPE with "only" 250bhp and it was impossible to drive it safely close enough to its limit to make for a fun driving experience. I'd previously owned a HPC BRD Cosworth which was a much more involving car to drive and I always regretted letting it go.

The 620R I won from BOTB now has over 17,000 miles, it is absolutely bonkers and probably a car you can never fully get used to!
Fantastic stuff!! Love that you’re using it so much, congrats again on such a crazy wonderful car! 😁👍
CW W 17k well used miles too, hey Craig 😉👍🏼

If I had 3 wishes, one would be for a Caterham.
1 - something like this, 2 - private track, 3 - unlimited gas and tires
Lovely detailed review. And no OMG! OMG! OMG ! ..
Excellent Review, incredible what an emotion it must be to drive it, thank you very much. greetings from Chile
This video definitely supports the argument that the 420 or 360 are more than enough Caterham for public roads.

That is what everyone want To nose.
Race Gt3+GT3RS

I always find the immobiliser key slides off its little mat whenever you corner hard. Finding things under the seats on this thing ain’t fun...
once the car is started the immobiliser fob can go back in your pocket, it doesn't have to remain on the mat.
No hats were lost in the making of this video lol
Loved that hat. RIP. - Christian 😂
Loved the video. Do you have the track name at 5:40? Cheers Oliver
Hi Oliver! Glad you liked the video 😊. It’s a proving ground in Surrey called Longcross.
Sorry I meant music😂
Great car! So the pants are an optional extra as well?😉
You’ll need to bulk buy the pants..... 😂
Driving it at about 10% of its potential zz
My dream garage is my Black Corolla diesel and my modified Honda 125 bike and my tracked combine harvester.good luck 👍
Another talentless driver who takes out a Caterham - bored.
