. . . And then there are sailors as I used to be who are just out there to relax and enjoy the time afloat. I would wave to passing yachts who possibly thought that they were ‘winning’.
So why then if you suggest to somebody why not enter a race with your boat ( same style of course) and they say ‘ oh I don’t like racing’ and they miss the 10x faster learning experience!?!?!
@5:33 The tanbark sailed boat was wondering, looking over their shoulder and musing, "I wonder if they're using the same wind we're using?" Inconceivable!
Aladino is oozing happiness. So cute. You both are, really. You certainly are exploring a beautiful area. I am so happy for you. Your first swear word at 2....hahaha.
What a great time you are having! I am so happy for you both. In 2016 I sailed the Issac Evans off the coast of Maine. I smiled for 2 weeks, which leads me to realize I am the happiest when on or near the water. Yesterday I completed a week long Canal boat trip on a 43 footer, still smiling, water brings us such joy. Best to you both, calm winds a following seas! Rob
So great to see you finally on the way north! The ship you showed us at 15:40 is the retired rescue vessel “Christiania”, a beautiful Colin Archer. It actually “saved” me and my family on the south coast of Norway last summer, when we caught a line in the prop of our old Windy powerboat. They threw us a line and kept us from drifting into the shore while I dove down to cut the rope. Looking forward to the coming episodes, and hope you reach my beloved Norway 😊
We went on the Jolie Brise last year and she is owned by a school not so far away from where I live in the auk. She is beautiful and I can see why she is Aladino’s favourite ship.
Hello to you both,my finger automatically goes to the like button.with a lovely couple having a happy life sailing or doing a project…enjoying themselves and…taking me with them, what is not to like….Thank you.Roly 🇬🇧.
Not only are you the loveliest sailing couple, Magic Carpet is undoubtedly the most perfectly restored, maintained yacht on the seven seas,..and then there's Maya's magic music and poetic commentary, sigh💓
I am 26 years old now and I spent my childhood living in Friesland and sailing around the IJsselmeer, Waddenzee among other places on our 37ft yacht with my family. Lovely to see your videos exploring and enjoying the area. Also I appreciate the little details in your videos: getting background information right, pronunciation of places and generally how respectful you are to the locals and surroundings. You are becoming my favourite sailing channel [Edit] our boat is in Makkum and I can actually see it at 12:02!
Dear Magic Carpet couple. 👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! You two are glowing inside and outside a lot more than you usually do already! What a relief must it be to be back on the water again and follow your dreams. Magic Carpet really does look like new. So: Congrats, congrats, congrats for all of that. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
I fell in love with your Magic Carpet I, the lines on your boat, and the Mahogany varnish is beautiful. The drone shots are incredible. The both of you did a job well done. She outshines the majority of the boats out there. She is definitely a yacht inside and out. You are doing an outstanding refitting Magic Carpet II. I am happy to see you both enjoying your vacation and a well deserve one at that. Fair winds with following seas looking forward to following your adventures.
great ep!! loved the seafaring music...wish you had another day showing more of the fantastic wooden/historical boats with all your interesting comments
Wonderful thanks, tears of joy and laughter out loud. Seriously never loose this mentality, never 'grow up'. Can use this to explain to others that just don't get years of working on a boat. Why. Out of all episodes this is now a new pinnacle.
Thank you, Maya for sharing your adventures. It is really cool to "visit" those place, which you show and travel with you and Aladino staying at home. Keep up doing the great work!
I had three most fun in this episode... I adore seeing the two of you living with gusto! Thanks for sharing your lives with us. It will be exciting to see what you both choose as your route North. No matter I am confident Magic Carpet will sail herself. With the windvane which is a huge help! You both have salt an teak in your blood.. Fare winds an following sea's ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Haven't watched this channel for a couple of years but I have to say Maya is looking even better with age! The video content and story telling is also superb. Will start watching regularly again.
The boat Christiania is a rescue vessel and is has the additional name RS10. She is constructedby by Colin Archer. The boat is build in 1896. She had her home port in the North of Norway
Maya, you must realise (5:36 seconds), that whenever a yacht appears off the bow, headed the same way, in any skippers' eyes (Aladino), it will ALWAYS be a race. LOL
Great video. Enjoyed the sailing and the tall ship regatta. Reminded me of one time visiting Denmark and the tall ships were in Port there. Amazing experience seeing all these beautiful large sailing vessels from different parts of the world.
I've been following you guys since the beginning. For me, it's the best sailing channel. Congrats! You're great! You have so many skills!!! This journey is amazing, with different landscapes compared to here in Brazil.
It's so good to see you sailing again, I think it was a good decision to get away from the big boat for a while and refresh your passion for sailing. I think you are both very special people and your individual talents compliment each other so well. Aladino for his skills with boat building and you Maya for your extraordinary talents with editing and story telling and music. I have my own channel and sailing adventures but I struggle to emulate the seemingly effortless fluency of your videos. I'll be watching your episodes as they appear and I hope you have a lovely time in Sweden.. Dave
Thank you once again for a spectacular episode. The tall ships festival was lovely to watch making my old not so nimble sea legs itch for a new adventure for which I have you guys to share it with. Waiting eagerly for the next episode.
I live on an Alberg 30, a boat similar to Magic Carpet. As a single handed live aboard sailor I utilize sheet-to-tiller steering as it provides the sailing advantages you described regarding wind vane steering with these additional advantages: - utilizing the same sails that power the boat to also steer the boat on any apparent wind course is a simpler and more robust and yet more elegant system than either a wind vane or autopilot system; - the system needs no maintenance, and is less susceptible to mechanical failures and thereby also provides a backup for a wind vane or autopilot system should a failure happen while cruising; - it allows smaller boats with tillers to eliminate the additional weight and cost of a wind vane system hanging off the stern (Webb Chiles utilized sheet-to-tiller steering on his most recent singlehanded circumnavigation in a Moore 24); - it doesn’t detract in any way from the beauty of the boat or the boat transom; - it is an additional and enjoyable sailing/seamanship skill, as rewarding to master and continually improve upon as the skill of sailing itself. The source I recommend for learning how to set up proper sheet-to-tiller steering is Chapter 3 of the book “Self Steering for Sailing Craft” by John S. Letcher, Jr. In Chapter 3 he describes several different ways to setup a sheet-to-tiller self steering system. The book is out of print but is sometimes available as a free PDF or as a used book. Like learning to sail without any hands on instruction the self-taught learning curve can at times be frustrating, but the rewards of honing the skill are great. Once mastered I believe you will find it to be as fundamental to being a complete sailor as learning how to reef a sail or how to hove-to effectively. If at all interested I can offer some advice an clarifications to John S. Letcher, Jr.’s book, learned through many months of trial and error. But my primary reason for suggesting this is that I believe you are best situated to learn and then pass on this valuable but little appreciated skill to other sailors
I’ve read the book a while ago. Good read indeed. I haven’t tried it enough yet and will definitely revisit it. Nonetheless will we still have an autopilot and a windvane.
All your videos have a little Magic in them Maya...... But when you are Sailing it just gets a little bit Better and the smiles a little Bigger...... :-)) xxxx
Back in the early 2000's I was sailing my gaff cutter off Sandwich in the UK when we saw the Europa coming out of Ramsgate Harbour on her way back to the Continent. She was a wonderful sight under full sail and one that I shall always remember. Really enjoying following you on your adventures.
Magic Carpet is stunning, well done you two. Now comes your repayment for all your hard work. Loved seeing Europa and Soren Larson again. They were both in my home area of the Bay of Islands NZ . Soren was here for some time with Jim Cottier as skipper, perhaps when your folks were aboard. Let's here more of your beautiful violin Maya.
As always its wonderful to follow your adventures. Port Townsend or Europe, its all good! Aladino has that boat building skill but you Maya have music in your soul! I for one enjoy them both! Sail on!
So good to see Magic Carpet on the water again. Aledino knows that two sailboats going the same direction, it's a race! Very good video. I would love to have seen the tall ships.
I'm glad you're having some fun after all the work you two have done. It's funny in the beginning of your TH-cam journey, Aladino seemed a little suspicious and reticent in front of the camera. Now he's a big old ham. lol. Love your videos.
Wow! Thanks for more content. I would liked to know more about the Solar panel and the Wind Vane steering apparatus. Maybe a short primer on their operation and importance would be good. The Sailing Festival was really cool. Thanks for sharing. Aladino was in Sailboat heaven. Or more appropriate Valhalla!
This was my favorite sailing episode thus far, or at least for a long time. The sailing, your fresh personalities, humor, the bike ride, the tall ships, (WOW), the top of the ferris wheel, and the personal stories about your parents. All just fantastic, so groovy.
When Maya is standing on a rock in the middle of the ocean playing the violin I would love to be on a different rock perhaps a hundred meters away listening to the melancholy sounds wafting across the water. I believe this experience could only be rivaled by the call of loons on a lake at sunrise or the midnight howl of wolves in a forest during a full moon.
I thoroughly enjoyed the wooden boat festival this year, reminded me to watch out for your you tube edition. What a wonderful day at port Townsend and a wonderful morning watching you both, glad you won the boat race!
1.6K+ like of this 6,546th view... "oooooooo" moment: 2:15 - TALL SHIPS. 5:52 another photo opp for admiring the beautiful varnish and finish - the fruit of all your labor-of-love.
Great to see stunning Josie Brise traveling far from Normandy . Amazing boat , first winner of the fastnet race and 2nd to ‘Tally-Hoe’ in the second race in 1927 , they were the only 2 boats to finish in the stormy race! Love we the video , vacation sailed in Netherlands in 70’s , such a great place Cheers Warren
What makes your channel I believe to be the best of all of the very few, very good ones are your ability to articulate your passion of sailing, your storytelling, adventures in interesting parts of Europe and watching you both do incredible work on your boats. Unlike many of the others (not all) that stay stuck in Caribbean partying. Seeing the Canadian flag flying on your beautiful creation brought a smile to the old sailor. Calm seas and fair winds.
Dutch clouds, music, and beautiful classic boats: pilot cutters, Colin Archers, and Magic Carpet looking sharp. Pre-Pandemic, I remember seeing ads for Europa doing Antarctic cruises. Ships featured here are the some of the best. It appears a fresh, sea breeze is doing you both good.
Let the Adventures begin! The Tall Ship event looked very interesting and Aladino’s “opinions” were very interesting and helpful at the same time. I’m excited for you both and look forward to visually share your experiences via your videos. My wife and I went a Tall Ship event at Chicago’s Navy Pier several years back and I was so impressed by their build and how the crew lived during any sailing. I wish I’d had more knowledge of ships and sailing, but you’ve been sharing some of that in the videos so it does help non-sailers like us to better understand the lifestyle. If you get the time and can do it, could you do a segment on how the wind thing (sorry, I forgot what you called it wind vane or something like that) works to help sail the boat?
Australian/German sense of humor is quite funny & very unique to Austria & Germany, I love it. Lots of irony w/ alternate side-looking half sarcasms. Nice, don't ever lose it. it's a vital part if how to look at all of life's twists, turns & ultimate curve balls. Bravo Deno!
Just added a flexible solar panel to my Bristol 45.5's dodger. Not wanting to penetrate the cloth I used earth magnets. One fixed to the panel and the other on the under side of the dodger. Works perfectly. Just had 35 knots of wind for 7 hours and they didn't move an inch. Might want to try it.
I used a small nut + bolt to secure my flexible solar panels to my dodger + bimini, never thinking of using earth magnets. Did you use them for reason that they could be easily detached? What size magnets did you use?
Oh man, I got tears in my eyes with this video! We don't know eachother, but I am just so happy for you! Finding the boats that are a part of your history and seeing Aladino's joy, made me emotional! You are such a storyteller Maya!
Fair winds you two. MC looking very spiffy. BTW Søren Larsen ship still going strong in Sydney. I watched her lead the huge procession of tall ships into Sydney Harbour back in 1988 for our Bicentennial celebrations. She is due in Hobart Tasmania for the Wooden Boat Festival in Feb 2023. 😊
I'm so happy for you as you begin your adventure. What a treat to connect with your family roots at the tall ship festival. Lovely episode as always Excited to see what lies ahead.
Jam always impressed with people who can operate a sailboat. In my one attempt I rented a little recreational thing that could hold two people in the bay behind the Galveston Sandbar. It was great fun but I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to get back to the beach where I had taken the boat out. Your craft, aside from being so gorgeous, looks several orders of magnitude harder to operate. Sail on. My hopes go with you. I’d say envy was a part of this but I’m just hoping you have the adventure you are hoping for.
So glad to see you out sailing again! This why started following your channel. You both are probably really tired of working on two boats? You both seem so happy to be off on a new adventure! I built my own 40’ tri, and worked on boats for a living, so videos about boat projects aren’t very interesting to me. But I’m really looking forward to watching your Scandinavian adventure!
Aledino knows boats and how to build em' but you know music and how to play it. Both are outstanding skills.
We we're in Harlingen that same day, sad we missed you guys, would've loved to catch up. We we're on our way to beautiful Terschelling!!
1 sailboat is a cruise, 2 sailboats on the same course is a RACE. Every sailor knows that ;-)
u got it !!!
duh...
. . . And then there are sailors as I used to be who are just out there to relax and enjoy the time afloat. I would wave to passing yachts who possibly thought that they were ‘winning’.
i do it myself all the time, you just want to know what the other guy has under the hood so to speak!!
So why then if you suggest to somebody why not enter a race with your boat ( same style of course) and they say ‘ oh I don’t like racing’ and they miss the 10x faster learning experience!?!?!
Not only your spirit has been lifted. You have lifted ours as well! Press on.
So glad to hear that, thank you so much Aaron :)
Beautiful cinematography!
Your opening shot was outstanding. You have a photographers eye. It is always a pleasure to follow your adventures
I had the opportunity to work on a 3 masted schooner in the early 80's in Alexandria, VA. Wonderful memories
@5:33 The tanbark sailed boat was wondering, looking over their shoulder and musing, "I wonder if they're using the same wind we're using?" Inconceivable!
She's not as fast as Magic Carpet, but I know which boat I'd rather be in if the weather turned nasty.... 🙂
I think I got a scam reply to your recent post. With a phone number attached. Rob
Yup, that was a scam reply. Removed and reported!
It was lovely to see those tall ships and it was even nice to see that elegant little boat with the red sails.
Bon Voyage, Magic Carpet looks as good as new. Vindo's were always very pretty boats and you have done her proud, well done.
So great to see you finally on the way north! The ship you showed us at 15:40 is the retired rescue vessel “Christiania”, a beautiful Colin Archer. Thank you so much Roland, we really appreciate it!
Not only are you the loveliest sailing couple, Magic Carpet is undoubtedly the most perfectly restored, maintained yacht on the seven seas,..and then there's Maya's magic music and poetic commentary, sigh💓
A beautiful little sailing vessel transporting a lovely young couple on adventures we get to share. Thank you M&A 🎉
I am 26 years old now and I spent my childhood living in Friesland and sailing around the IJsselmeer, Waddenzee among other places on our 37ft yacht with my family. 19:22 - the button cushions looking good, comfy and 'homey' in the salon.
Magic Carpet is looking magical. Well done both of you.
Maya, I could sense and feel the admiration for your parents when you talked about those tall boats. What an experience that must have been! WOW!
great ep!! loved the seafaring music...wish you had another day showing more of the fantastic wooden/historical boats with all your interesting comments
Wonderful thanks, tears of joy and laughter out loud. Seriously never loose this mentality, never 'grow up'.
Can use this to explain to others that just don't get years of working on a boat. Why.
Out of all episodes this is now a new pinnacle.
Thank you so much Braith, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Omg! What a treat to watch your videos. They are expertly and exquisitely made. Love your music and the music you select for each episode. Encore!
Thank you so much, that means a lot :)
Boy that interior is looking gorgeous with the new soft goods!
Isn't it?? We're SO happy! Thanks for the comment :)
May joy fill your hearts, fair winds fill your sails!
Thank you, Maya for sharing your adventures. It is really cool to "visit" those place, which you show and travel with you and Aladino staying at home. Keep up doing the great work!
Back to the great story telling of sails in the wind, thank you for sharing your lives.
Sailed there with my parents so often. Very nice to see you enjoying those waters and harbours. 🙏🏻
RS, isn't that short for Reddnings Skute (or similar, my norwegian skills are far from perfect)?
I love that Bark Europa uses all her sails, including the studding sails. :)
The opening seconds 1..5 show a spectacular sailing boat. Lovely video.
I have to say chaps MC1 is looking rather gorgeous! Enjoy your passage!
This journey is amazing, with different landscapes compared to here in Brazil.
love your brightwork it's immpecable!!
Oozing joy. Home is looking so cosy as you closed this episode off. Feeling your excitement here in Brisbane, Australia.
I automatically love anyone whose primary means of travel are sailing and biking. Nice to see you two back on the water :-)
its soo good to have you back on the water. Thank you for restarting your adventures.
It's so good to see you sailing again, I think it was a good decision to get away from the big boat for a while and refresh your passion for sailing. Your little sloop passed a fully rigged ketch, that is a win. Well done.
Great episode. The tall ships were worth the detour!
I would go through the Keil canal (a bit boring admittedly) but the East coast of Denmark is stunning and well worth visiting.
Thank you once again for a spectacular episode. The tall ships festival was lovely to watch making my old not so nimble sea legs itch for a new adventure for which I have you guys to share it with. Waiting eagerly for the next episode.
Beneath the calm exterior, the competitive spirit flows deep . Beautiful Tall ships.
I live on an Alberg 30, a boat similar to Magic Carpet. As a single handed live aboard sailor I utilize sheet-to-tiller steering as it provides the sailing advantages you described regarding wind vane steering with these additional advantages:
- utilizing the same sails that power the boat to also steer the boat on any apparent wind course is a simpler and more robust and yet more elegant system than either a wind vane or autopilot system;
- the system needs no maintenance, and is less susceptible to mechanical failures and thereby also provides a backup for a wind vane or autopilot system should a failure happen while cruising;
- it allows smaller boats with tillers to eliminate the additional weight and cost of a wind vane system hanging off the stern (Webb Chiles utilized sheet-to-tiller steering on his most recent singlehanded circumnavigation in a Moore 24);
- it doesn’t detract in any way from the beauty of the boat or the boat transom;
- it is an additional and enjoyable sailing/seamanship skill, as rewarding to master and continually improve upon as the skill of sailing itself.

Yes I agree the opening shot is amazing and very artistic also what great pair you two are, stay cool stay loving and enjoy life
Your music adds so much to your vids and fits what's happening so well. Good job.
As always its wonderful to follow your adventures. Port Townsend or Europe, its all good! Aladino has that boat building skill but you Maya have music in your soul! I for one enjoy them both! Sail on!
I like how your boat is now called "Our Magic Carpet", nice little addition 🙂 Happy to see you sailing again!
Fantastic video and the start of a fun adventure. I especially enjoyed seeing and hearing about the tall ships.
Your happy energy is contagious in this episode. Thanks for sharing your lives, your joy and your journey. Peace

Two boats sailing the same direction is a race. Period.
Two men having far too much testosteron are macho. Period? Yanks are weird. Full stop.
Australian/German sense of humor is quite funny & very unique to Austria & Germany, I love it. Lots of irony w/ alternate side-looking half sarcasms.
Nice, don't ever lose it. it's a vital part if how to look at all of life's twists, turns & ultimate curve balls. Bravo Deno!

What a great edit! This was fabulous to watch and to see the lighter side of you two!
Fair winds and following seas,

Love your choice in boats and sailgrounds! Thank you for sharing your adventures!
You keep us on the stretch bench. Slowly, but steadily, you are building up our expectations. I like that! Tank you
Great opening scenes. The boat looks magnificent!
Oh man, I got tears in my eyes with this video! We don't know eachother, but I am just so happy for you! Finding the boats that are a part of your history and seeing Aladino's joy, made me emotional! You are such a storyteller Maya!
Your trip is amazing, congratulations here from Brazil.
Wow, She is looking good. Well done the two of you.
Great to see you both... your voice reminds me of lockdown..in a good way ❤️
I love what you two are doing.
Great to see you guys adventuring again
Thank you for sharing with us your lovely boat and your lovely travels
Xx
❤well done, again. Your excitement is infectious and your videography is,imho, superb!👍
What fun! Good to see your boat in the water and you two moving again. PS, great music choices. Thank you.
Great to see Jolie Brise, have to agree with Aladino. Thank you for great vlog, look forward to watching your next adventures.
