    Some engineer at JLR installed a computer module below the wading depth of the vehicle.....while leaving acres of space in the dashboard.....briiiiilliant.

      Agreed very dumb, I think we should look at making a relocation kit is the loom allows this module and the key module to the glove box area I would have that in there instead of all the rubbish 😉 thoughts @L663 ?

      Its a hard item to relocate due to the number of connectors it has going into it - this in itself is questionable.. in this day and age USB C can power all your devices from your laptop.... monitor etc. Any box that has more than Power + CAN bus + Antenna is questionable...all those connectors cost money / cause problems / increase weight / increase assembly time. Land Rover need to embark on a mission to reduce the number of connectors on the car by 50% at least !

      @@L663 I'll have to have another look at the loom and where it actually goes back to, 1 potential idea is to relocate the key module ontop slightly and Gain about 1.5 inches by putting spacers under the main module, easy enough. Then you might have about 2 inches to 2.5 inches under the main module. The other option would be to look at how much play is in the loom and could put a box in the storage area in the centre console or right back into the glovebox. Agree way to many modules and connectors.

      It floods here in Houston, Texas all the time. Oh my, placing the some of the most sensitive electronic parts under the seat of the vehicle is a no no

    Hi Simon, thanks for your effort.
    you are very willing and brave to experiment all these new situations on your defender.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

    KVM is far to accessible. Will be moving mine to an alternative and more hidden location. Already relocated my OBD port. Every little tactic helps! Great video and thankyou.

    Simon…another extreme bravery award due I think! I decided before I bought it that off road in water would be a bad idea with a PHEV so no dashing through fords foe me! I’m impressed that you are brave enough to delve deep into the electronics but know you are something of an expert in that field! Poor old STIG deserves a medal…constant open heart/bonnet surgery yet he still keeps going!! Well done again! Richard😃😃😃😃😃

    I suppose sourcing a used pivi unit from a like for like car might reduce the potential for headaches when swapping over. Of course, you are dependent on what is available at the time.
    Interesting video. 👍

      @L663  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes this was worse case but it was a good test as we could see all issues. This unit was also a lot cheaper than others around

    Always enjoy your video’s. Interesting to note the Sat Nav was showing Scotch Corner after you replaced everything. It must have retained a setting somewhere…

      I think this is the last place the car had reception ( where the car was last powered up - and broken for spares )
      As we were in the workshop there was no GPS reception so it quite sensibly uses it last location until it gets an update.
      IF this is from a stolen car ( my police contacts are checking ) then we can tell where they had the car and also where they stole it from !

    Couple of weeks ago we also got stuck in deep muddy water and i accidentally tried to opened the door (i was so much in panic). Water level was just at the upper side of the outside plastic trim and luckily when i saw the water coming in, i immediately shut it. It was such a dumb move. Nothing has happened to the Defender but mentally it broke me a bit 😂. Thanks Simon again! Great video

      I take full responsibility for what happened during our offroading adventure. Everything was perfect, and we had successfully passed the same spot just 20 minutes earlier. However, for the sake of a video 😁 I decided to cross it again. My wife warned me not to, but I was determined and went straight into the water. Unfortunately, it was a mistake.
      We got stuck in about 80 cm of deep, muddy water. I had to climb out of the window and jump directly into the water to assess the situation. The Defender was completely stuck-its belly was resting on the ground, and all the tires were off the ground. I tried putting things under the tires to gain traction, but nothing worked.
      After 30 exhausting minutes, a HUGE thanks to another Defender (an older model with extreme mud tires) that came to our rescue and pulled us out of this uncomfortable situation.
      Well my confidence and ego took a hit thats for sure but we walked away with some unforgettable memories 😁

      @@hakansultanoglu it might be a good idea to take the two covers off underneath the seats and look to see if there is any water or mud that got in it sounds like you maybe we're just lucky enough to not get any in

      @@newdefendermods Just checked again and there’s nothing on the battery side, but I noticed a thin layer of dried mud on the bottom of the Pivi side! It’s not much, but it immediately brought me back to that moment. I can’t even describe how lucky we were!

    • @newdefendermods
      @newdefendermods วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @hakansultanoglu very lucky, the unit is slightly off the floor but only very slightly you got lucky by the looks of it.

    Another great video guys, I'm always curious about which parts are coded and which are not. Did I hear there is new legislation coming to stop manufacturers making things that are not easily repaired and wonder if that will put and end to coding.

    • @L663
      @L663  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The down side of non coded parts is that cars are more valuable to thieves as all parts can be sold…

    Great video Simon thanks for doing that. I’m more interested in the key control module… Would you be able to start your car if it got flooded? I would consider the infotainment unit the least critical system in the whole car so yes a good compromise on the location…

    • @L663
      @L663  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes you can still start the car by placing the key next to the ribbed area on the steering column - i believe - not test but i could test by unplugging the KVM

    • @newdefendermods
      @newdefendermods วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      we have tested this without the TV module and without the key module completely disconnected from the vehicle and the vehicle still works, just place key under steering column as Simon says 👍🏽

    Great video - I wonder if the dimensions & image would have resolved itself if you did the ccf model swap around to get the 13” screen sorted again?
