    Now I have a question. Do each of these patterns have symbolic meanings? Or the components that make up each design have symbolic meanings? Like the number of petals on the flowers means something…peacocks or their feathers symbolize something…each color means something…the combination of symbols that make up a design tells a story from sacred texts or depicts a prayer through visual symbolism? And why specifically rice powder? Is that symbolic? I’m assuming there is a deeper meaning to the practice that has a spiritual and a tangible function as well as aesthetic beauty?

    • @nandinikumari4813
      @nandinikumari4813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, bcoz in India especially Hindu religion, it is believed that everything have God figure or say God is with us in all forms.
      In first design white symbol known as God" Ganesha ":-- who provides wisdom, power nd luck on any auspicious occasion.
      If u want to see deeper then yes each components, symbols, no. Of petals, peacock,feather or leaves,rice power, and colour combination all have deep connection frm our vedas nd auspicious books of Hindus.
      Peacock feather represents Lord Krishna :-God of love nd peace (again if u want to know about Krishna ji:--he is one of the form of Lord vishnu:--God of creation).
      It also depends if we r drawing rangoli for auspicious events like wedding then no. Of petals matters. No. Of dots also should be even smtg nd it should be made with rice powder paste, turmeric, Vermillion:-( made frm mercury Hg)in India known as sindur which is red in color nd every married Hindu women applies sindur/kumkum in between their forhead(hairs) which is done for long live of their husbands (it have scientific benefits also but ignore). So red color also auspicious considered for long lives of family owner. Red,yellow is most auspicious color in wedding or any festival.bcoz connected to god. Similarly according to Indian flag, green, orange, white nd blue represents nature love, harmony, peace nd brotherhood respectively. In any auspicious festivals/events of Hindus black is not (very rarely) used.
      Also India is a vast nd diverse country where after every 2 km(even less) language, dialects, food, culture, clothes,etc changes. So for different people frm different states/areas sometimes these meaning may change .
      Green auspicious colour again it represents nature as well as long lives of husband for married woman(eg:-bangles green red auspicious). Although it have scientific reasons nd benefits u can search.
      So by all these I want to convey all these in this art form (RANGOLI), are interlinked but sometimes used for decorative or entertainment purpose only. So it's too vast to tell all in comment meaning of each thing as each thing of nature have lives in it.it only represents little of them.
      Flowers used to worship our Lords. Orange red green auspicious colour for hindu dharma(way of life not only religion). Even nd odd numbers also have some connections like in auspicious events odd number of leaves/money like 5/11/101 etc used(eg in weddings or worshipping). It all depends nd relative not absolute nd changes frm place to place.
      So conclusion:- as like while watching vdo it represents peace, harmony, happiness, love, culture,entertainment, decoration,positivity.
      Hope it helped ur curiosity btw I assume u r elder person so Namaste 🙏 frm India🇮🇳sir/madam. All these frm a fellow 16 years old kid.
      Welcome to India ma'am/Sir. Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day🥰

      @@nandinikumari4813 Thank you so much for such a thorough answer!! I suppose for a 16 year old, I would be considered elder. I’m only 42 though and I’m the youngest in my family so I guess I still see myself as a baby in many ways! Lol!
      I’m actually Wiccan, so I’m used to creating my own spells. Spells are really just prayers that use a combination of meditation/words/rhythm with various tools to pray for something. Everything is symbolic from the day of the week and hour of the day we choose to pray and how that corresponds to colors of candles, types of herbs, scents… These correspondences could be for psychological benefits or medicinal. And it pulls from a variety of cultures and historical accounts since many ancient European religious figures didn’t like to share. My coworkers used to try to tease me by asking for money spells. So I gave them a few different ones and watched their faces scrunch up with disappointment. Real spells are boring and practical. And, like any prayer, the Divine is only going to give you what you need and not what you want. Money spells are mostly just psychological methods to help you be more mindful so you end up spending less impulsively without realizing it.
      Anyway, I love learning about symbolism and how that connects to natural medicinal functions and the psychological connections we make depending on the culture we are familiar with. Seeing how those connections cross cultures is equally fascinating to me. I’m always learning! So thank you so much for all that information!! I’m currently reading a translation of the Mahabharata. Do you have any book recommendations for the symbols used for Rangoli?

    • @nandinikumari4813
      @nandinikumari4813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sarina76667 namaste ma'am 🙏 how r u hope everyone fit nd fine there.
      I'm sorry to say but idk about rangoli books, we learn all these practices frm our previous generation.
      I'm on cloud nine after knowing u r reading mahabharat.(Bhagwatgeetapart).
      As ur interests nd my interests r similar about learning symbolic structures, new cultures. I would like to say watch some muggu/kollam designs(form of rangoli but made with dots mainly it's common in South India) nd one more henna designs (mehndi designs) :- used to make rangoli like patterns in hands with henna in auspicious events like weddings/fasting etc). It's like tattoo but not permanent. (Maybe u already know).
      (I'm sorry to reply late as I'm busy in diwali cleaning of home to decorate nd call goddess laxmi:- goddess of money nd wealth to our homes) . But I have never heard any word like Wiccan as I'm not native English speaker, also spells, money spells, etc meaning. Is it related to manifesting or magic? Plz consider my question as I didn't get anything after searching about these meanings in yt🤔.
      Hope I didn't bore you. Have a nice day ma'am. 😊. Kindly pardon if I did any mistakes.Love nd peace frm India🇮🇳🙏

    • @sarina76667
      @sarina76667 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nandinikumari4813 Thank you again for responding!! Wicca is a very new and unorganized belief system. It was developed in the 1960s as a part of the counter culture movement, but the inspiration behind it came from spiritual practices that are much older pagan religions that were either destroyed by conquering parties or assimilated into other religions. It’s a hodgepodge of pantheons from Greek, Roman, Celtic, Norse, ancient Egyptian, and many others. Historically, there are records of the mythology of these ancient religions. We’re familiar with the deities, but the priests and priestesses didn’t record any details about rituals so it’s a lot of guess work and doing what feels right to you.
      Absolutely! When I use the term, “spell”, I’m talking about manifesting change. In most Western cultures, people tend to see magic as Hollywood dramatic like Harry Potter or as a parlor trick for children’s parties. But you and I know that real magic isn’t a trick. It’s very real and it’s all around us. Just because science has proven something exists and has renamed it, doesn’t mean it can’t inspire awe and uplift us spiritually anymore. Rangoli would be considered a spell because you’re combining spiritual intent with the supplies and knowledge of symbols to create the art in an effort to manifest protection and good health for anyone who enters your house. Every day I use the symbols associated with the days of the week as inspiration for my outfit for the day in an effort to manifest a positive day for myself. The word Friday comes from the Norse goddess Frigga, so on Fridays I wear colors associated with a goddess of love and beauty like Frigga or Aphrodite. Certain gemstones and metals are also associated with a certain deity, so on Friday I might wear jewelry made of copper or aquamarine. I might incorporate hearts, roses, or seashells into a Friday outfit. And all of that thought I put into picking out that outfit goes into my attempt to manifest positive energy for the day.
      I will certainly look into those designs you mentioned! Thank you so much for the suggestions! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Diwali! Samhain (pronounced Sowehn) is the end of the month for me so I am also in preparation. It’s when the veil between this world and the next becomes thin enough for spirits to cross back into our world. Not everything that crosses the veil is nice, so you want to welcome the good spirits (like family who has passed away) while protecting your home from the spirits that aren’t nice. All of the traditions surrounding Halloween are traditions that originated from Samhain. Carving pumpkins is to protect your home from bad spirits. Costumes help you blend in with the spirits so you don’t attract unwanted attention. Setting a space at the table for loved ones who have passed. My roommate and I visit the graves of family. We usually bring tools with us to clean up any graves we find who haven’t had visitors in a long time. I always try to make my mother’s recipe for pumpkin soup.
      So have a wonderful holiday and thank you again for responding!! Namaste and Blessed Be to you as well!
