I have a goldfish in a 25 gallon and planning to move him into a 55 gallon so I can get another goldfish but I need to put media in it and do the nitrogen cycle. Also do I need beneficial bacterial is that the same thing as the nitrogen cycle?

I’ve been keeping fish, turtles and my favorite goldfish for many years now and know happily a lot about animals in general. If you didn’t know it can be actually pretty harmful for fish to Live in a bare bottom tank depending on how much waste they produce and how often they are fed. The idea of the substrate is to allow fecal matter to not be exposed to the water allowing it to sink down an sit in the rocks or sand below. It also makes it a lot easier to control bacteria and harmful chemicals that could kill the fish. Common species that need tanks with substrate are fishes like piranhas, Oscars, an goldfish amongst many other species. Now everyone cares and raises fish differently so you obviously can do whatever you please because you know a great deal about fish as well. I was just sharing info to another fish owner 😁

That is a lie bare bottom tanks is worst than gravel. The fish will create bio load and eventually the ammonia and nitrate levels will go crazy. To the point your fish will pass away.
