Cool video. Like the look of Astypalea a lot. The bucket list keeps getting longer, I must work harder on it!

Went to Astypalea from Kalymnos for a few days 15 years ago and stayed in Skala which seems to have grown rapidly since then. Just as you referenced the two ports, at the time the "new" port had just opened and my 3am ferry left from it. Wasn't aware at the time of the new port - ticket office never mentioned it 😂 - and waited forlornly for my ferry at 3am in the Skala port only to see it sail past in the distance having left from the new port. Ferries not so regular back then so had an extra two days on the island 😁 Worse places to spend such time. Nice video. Brought back some good memories and hope I can eventually get back there in the next few years.

Wow, I didn't realise the 'new' port was that old! It was confusing because all the information online says that's the port all ferries now use, so I was quite surprised when we rolled up at Skala on arrival. The ticket office did at least tell me that I'd be departing from there as well, I can imagine how frustrating it must've been to watch your ferry sail off onto the horizon and you not be on it, especially at 3am!
My original ferry to Kos was actually cancelled due to high wind, so I also had an extra two nights here and only made it to Kos yesterday on a 5am boat. As you say, definitely worse places to get stuck and all part of the island-hopping adventure!

@@GreeceTravelGuide Absolutely 👍🏻 I think it had literally opened. The guy I bought the ticket from shrugged later in the day when I went back to him muttering "mmmm, yes, they've started using that now" 😂 😂
I changed accommodation for the two extra days to pretend I was at another destination and revisited much of what I'd seen the previous three 😁 Agree. All part of the Island-hopping experience and can still occur, especially if weather prevents sailings, so good to keep that in mind.
Looking forward to the next island brief 👍🏻 Safe travels ☺

Wow it seems so remote and intriguing. I'd like to combine it with Amorgos if possible. Is this the most barren/arid island you've seen? It's surprising as Kos and Samos aren't far away but are so much greener! Must be the wind..

You can definitely combine it with Amorgos-I took a ferry from Paros and it stopped at Amorgos on the way. I wouldn't say it's the most barren, Ios and Sikinos are similarly without much vegetation. It's a pretty cool island to visit though.

Very informative, thank you. Not quite sure if I'll invest the 80!!! euro for the ferry, to and back, from Kos🤔😘. Thank you esp. for port information!!! This is really important🤛👍👏👏👏.

Yes, unfortunately ferry prices have risen 3 times this summer due to the global oil prices. It does make island hopping less economical than it used to be, but Astypalea won't disappoint!

I'm there. no regrets😁, actually, I paid 30 euros from Kos with speedboat and it will be 15 euro for the night ferry to next island, Tilos. so, no 80 euros for ferry. So, me, I'm enjoying a lot the quiet atmosphere on my balcony and in front of my little stone house which is exactly right under the castle in chora. thank you for your video again. beaches, I did in Kos😘
