    His accent adds to what makes his voice so special. It’s what drew me to him the first time I heard him. There are a lot of amazing singers, but it’s what sets him apart & makes him so uniquely Dermot, in a sea of others.

    Dermot is always this genuine, emotional and present in his singing. Thank you for reacting to this. You’d love all his work, but his acapella ‘For Island Fires and Families’ is mind-blowing. Love your voice too!!

      Ah thanks! :) I couldn't agree more about Dermot, he's a genuine soul and a true voice to be sure, love everything I've heard and yes, the raw version of 'For Island Fires...' is particularly awe-inspiring! :)

    Love your break down of Dermot. I fell in love with his authentic story telling, how he sings with raw emotion every time. He certainly has his own style and happens to be one of my favorite singers/songwriters to date. You picked up on everything I love about him as a singer. Great job!

      It's more a matter of singing English than covering their native accents. Adele, Noel Gallagher, Annie lennox or Van Morrison all have very different accents, none of which appear in their singing voice. I doubt any of them are imitating an American accent, though no doubt it occurs.

    Thank you for doing an Irish accent properly it always grates on me when people try to do it but don't understand how to adjust their voice to do it. Also very good analysis I hadn't thought of the crying tone actually serving a purpose other than emotional resonance. I've tried singing this song a lot and it is really difficult for timing and breathing he really is a master at it and that's how he makes it look like nothing.

    If you follow Dermot, you'll see he has a lot of interest in Hip-Hop, I think that is where he has developed his skill for the spoken word style in much of his music.

      @@BitesizeGuitar I truly did. I would love to hear your take on some of his older music. I find the entire presentation to be much rawer, and I particularly enjoy him much more when it is just him and his guitar. If you get a chance or find the desire, I really like this, especially the end, amazing emotional vocals. th-cam.com/video/YNbYx3_7Hvo/w-d-xo.html

    If you listen to Dermot Kennedy's RECORDED voice (e.g. All My Friends) there is a treatment applied which really thickens and enriches his voice at times. Do you know how this is done? maybe some delay or distortion ? Perhaps a duplicate vocal is mashed up then added back in with the main voice....its very effective and clever.
    Thanks for the professional appraisal - excellent.

    • @BitesizeGuitar
      @BitesizeGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      keith gustafson Hey Keith! Great question, yeh I think his vocals will have been double tracked and then probably just eq’d slightly differently or have different degrees of reverb & compression added (there’s definitely a decent amount on both tracks). I agree it adds a lot more definition and depth to his vocal but is subtle too so doesn’t detract from how awesome his voice sounds all by itself! 😀 Thanks again for watching and for your question! 👍👍

      @@BitesizeGuitar I much prefer his lives. He's amazing.
      If you look up Other Voices Berlin Special 2019 ft: Dermot Kennedy, Lisa Hannigan, Stargaze & Aoife Ní Bhriain, at 5:15 it's his best performance of Lost and one of his best ever IMO

    Not sure if you're doing "vocal coach reaction" videos anymore since you haven't posted in a while but in the event that you decide to come back, I'd love to get your analysis/reaction to the following singers:
    Katrina Velarde - Go the Distance: th-cam.com/video/VVFO8_jWvaQ/w-d-xo.html
    Morissette Amon - Rise Up: th-cam.com/video/2U_yTjgk97A/w-d-xo.html
    Bugoy Drilon - One Day: th-cam.com/video/OC7oe6ciDzI/w-d-xo.html
    They are singers from the Philippines that I think are fantastic and I'd like to know what your thoughts are. I really enjoy your critiques and I'm curious about how you would analyse these singers. Thanks! (Oh, and they have a lot more great vocal performances but I thought that you could start with these!)
