Hi JB & Jess, I love how Jess was straight in there buying bargain plants 🪴 love it! Thanks for recommending the compost as our Association are struggling to find a decent peat free compost, so I've emailed our secretary with the details 😉 glad your plot is looking OK after the storm. Sorry to see your poor fence at home, but there is always something to keep us busy. Great video update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Loved this video. That nursery is exquisite. How lovely. So cute how excited Jess was over the plants. They all looked so healthy too. Chair corner in the polytunnel is perfect!
Thanks for the compost recommendation JB! After researching costs and availability we ended up going to the same garden centre this morning (Saturday) to buy 12 bags as it was still by far the cheapest, even with the £10 cost of fuel to get there and back (35 minutes away), There were only 4 bags left on those pallets after we had got ours, but they still have some in stock elsewhere though if anyone else wants any. Looking forward to seeing if my seedlings grow better this year. Really enjoying the videos from you and all the Potty Mouth gang. They really motivate me. Thanks JB, Justine
Wow JB just look how far you’ve come since the missing poly panel!!! 😂 that was so funny. You’ve both achieved so much. It’s incredible. Not to mention your knowledge /confidence has grow. A true allotmenteer now 😂 you’re putting Tony to shame 😉👍🏻
Hahaha thank you so much. The confidence to pick up the camera and film something like a trip to a garden centre is never something I thought I'd have!
Hi JB, dont talk about the storms!!! Enjoyed the video and wanted to you wish you and Jess a very happy New Year. Looking forward to more progress on your plot. Exciting times!!!
The sylvagrow tomato grow bags are good value too, they have added fertiliser and sometimes work out a better deal than the multipurpose if they are available…
All the Melcourt range is fantastic. I noticed that lovely nursery had the Tub and Basket (pink bags) which I love for my hanging baskets and pots it is gorgeous stuff. And the one with John Innes (yellow bags) which is also excellent. My local local one does both of those but weirdly not the green one, so have to go a couple of miles further away to collect that one. Both centres do a two bag offer, that three bag offer is brilliant value though! What a fabulous nursery. I am pretty lucky the section of A25 where I live gives me access to three different garden centres plus a lovely family run nursery and they all offer something different. I love that Jess got excited about the plants for her back garden bed. I hope the sweet williams do well.
Thanks JB great vid… I traditionally start my chilli’s, peppers and aubergines on Boxing Day and just this morning I have a few poked their heads up to say hello…soooooo exciting! Although looking forward to Potty Chilli special night tonight x… sometimes it’s great to share these growing/gardening experiences with people who have similar interests…. I too lost a garden fence panel in the storm - flippin’ annoying but with no damage at the allotment I’m very grateful that was it for me. Sadly my plot neighbour now has a shed on about a 30degree angle…. Boy did it blow!.. I also use Sylvagrow and you right it is odd how it isn’t readily available at more garden centres.. and weirdly I get mine from my timber yard (only a 10 min drive) - happy days..
I shall look out for sylva at my garden centre, I feel your pain we fencing down along with polytunnel damage be nice to see some dry wind free weather 👍🌶
I was worried you were going to break the suspension with all those bags in your car. Hope you have great new season ahead with all that lovely compost.
Ahh thankfully they're not too heavy unless they're waterlogged! I always compare the allotment loads with people and if they're heavier than 3 people I don't try and squeeze them in 😅
I still remember the early 2023 troubles that we both had with our 🌶️ - mine got off to a better start than yours, then our positions reversed! - and both settling on the Sylvagrow independently and simultaneously. Unfortunately I do not have the option of driving around multiple garden centres to try and save a few quid. I’ve had folks point out to me that I’m paying more than them for the stuff, but no 🚙 means pallet delivery only here. So I just pay the premium because I don’t pay the car and time tax. Travelling any distance to ‘save some 💷’ negates that premium immediately. Luckily I still have a few bags leftover from last year which will get used up promptly. I toss all my spent compost from pots into a Dalek over Winter, and I have a pallet compost bay filled with my own stuff. So I’m hoping this will be sufficient for the bulk of my 2024 requirements 🤞
Yes I remember that Tufty! You saved me!! This nursery does deliver for just £5! My first order I actually got from them last year but this time I sort of just wanted to go and have a nose around and I'm so glad I did!
£8 a bag 😳 I bought some John Innes last yr to get the new GH going, under the scope it looked pants, did a jam jar test on it, literally half of it was pure sand, had some wierd fat maggot bugs wrapped up in leaf coccoons in it too, never buying bags again lol I'm way infront on the compost front this yr, got 3 M3 made last yr and loads of sand left from the GH brickwork so I'll be making my own seed compost, will be following your pepper timing with sweet peps indoors, not doing hot ones anymore my mouth still gets ptsd just thinking about it lol
JB what have you done, you do realise that nobody is going to be able to get Sylvagrow in their area now because of you 😂 Glad you were able to get some for your Dad's Christmas present, what a lovely present to have. Your Polytunnel is kitted out well with your chair now. Take care 😊
So jealous that your garden centers have plants. I love Jess getting a cart, the same thing happens to me when I go to the garden center. Kid in a candy store. Will the sweet William self-seed?
@@JBNat Sweet William produces a lot of black seeds which, says a Sweet William Grow Guide, can be collected, or the plant will self-seed and with a bit of encouragement, your Sweet William investment will pay dividends for years. Much gardening love from Ohio, USA. 😊💚💚💚😊
Can't watch potty mouth chilli special, as working, but I'll catch up with it Monday 😅. I have sown mine already, fingers crossed that they germinate. Jo Devon 🙂
iv got sweet william seeds too but keep thinking i would rather get the plant as i have enough with the vetables haha i have not been to a garden centre this year yet i cant wait to go this weekend
Using Sylva grow for seeds seems madness ! Potting on when they need nutrients yes but to germinate seeds ? I'm all for quality compost JB but just seems a little expensive .I used used compost sieved to germinate seeds and then pot them up in to the good stuff 🙂Loving the little seating area 😍
For me it's the exact opposite! The seed starting part is the most delicate and important part. Using sieved spent compost is a good idea too though, I just don't really have any of that at home!
Going to be building a new to me greenhouse soon, going to be adding in some 4 x 4 posts to sit her on and rebar into the concrete. I'm close to the coast and every storm is wicked. I'm in Northern Ireland and cannot find a supplier for the Sylvagrow can anyone recommend anything else?
Had a delivery of a 50L bag of Sylvagrow today from Amazon after seeing Potty mouth going to give it a go see how my seeds germinate. Can't get it from anywhere else near my location.

Totally with you with the seating/thinking area in the tunnel

That throne is looking awesome! Good that nothing got damaged in the stor 🤞

That nursery looks magic. Sylva grow is 2 bags for £16 near me and there's plenty of it.

Oof sorry to hear about the fence and the neighbour's shed!
Watched this today and literally finished it 5 mins before the chilly special!! What timing!!

Oh no hope the tunnel isn't too bad!
Love the Henk comment; it's a common (mens) name in the Netherlands! :D
JB's Corner...love it 😊 🫖
What a enjoyable video jb had problems with peat free so on hunt for sylva grow st Margaret's is 15 minutes away love the throne made me laugh
Great video🤗🇨🇦

Sweet Williams are biennial so don't always flower the first year. If they do, just cut them back a bit and you should get a second year out of them.
Thanks Sue! I think I read that ages ago and had competely forgotten so thank you for the reminder!
And they often last for several years if you trim them back when they look untidy too, brilliant plants.
Both you and Jess were like kids in a candy shop😂
I went on the hunt today and found some, I also had an email from a place a little nearer to me that will do 2 bags for £15!

Part of The roof of my house blew off, good start to the year.
😳😳😳 Hope it's not too bad!!!
🐝 Thanks for the great video 💚 Owmy that nursery looks like a candy store for plotters

Maybe put a spare piece of poly tunnel plastic over top of repair. Belt & braces
So jealous that your garden centers have plants. I love Jess getting a cart, the same thing happens to me when I go to the garden center. Kid in a candy store. Will the sweet William self-seed?
It was lovely to see! We got loads for less than £20. No idea on the self seeding!

Nearest to me is nearly 30 miles away, what a joke
🤣👍
can you not buy mother earth compost i use it
Is that Clover's mother earth? Not seen it before, but that one is peat based
Dog? ❤
Yes she's not allowed at the allotment so doesn't feature in many videos other than the back garden ones!
