You didn't vote for a ceasefire. You voted for a humanitarian pause
Exactly, and skipping over the fact that they prevented their members from voting on the SNP motion where they *would* have been able to vote on a ceasefire! This is the lie!

Did she ? She voted for a ceasefire . A ceasefire has to include Hamas and the release of hostages and I dont hear alot of the Independents calling for that ( not sure if the Greens have though ) .
"We know how to handle Parliament" - i.e. smothering SNP and getting Hoyle to support you. Come on, stop talking rubbish
Exactly this. Infuriating. It was to save themselves as well, as the SNP had basically forced them to speak against their Israeli donors.
Hoyle a friend of Starmer and both Friends of Israel.Nice one!
Exactly! Labour squashing SNP ceasefire vote was disgusting & undemocratic!
@@user-xd7dk3oy3q Even worse to have your Labour MP bragging that they got the motion through and when I pointed out that it wasn't on their day to do so, the Labour MP could only brag further 'but we got the motion through'. Or rather, the left candidate.
To compare the play book of the greens to reform is a total and utter smear. She herself knowingly or unknowingly is playing dirty. It's like a bitter tantrum because her ambitions haven't been met. She really demonstrated how sorry she felt for herself.
She has a record of knowingly playing dirty -as in getting rid of socialists from her party by using lies and false smears against them.

She is talking crap.
Shame on you for not accepting that people did not want you as their representative, an other nail on the coffin for respect of politicians. Greens had the right policy to adhere to international laws unlike Labour
Good to see this, thanks Dalia and Novara. I was also outside parliament for that ceasefire vote, and looked up Thangam Debbonaire's vote afterwards - she was my MP. I joined the Green Party soon afterwards. Her claim that her constituents just fell for whatever the Greens said on their leaflets is garbage.

Wow, a minute in and she's claiming her party voted for a ceasefire and 'knew how to handle Parliament'. The fact is that they had months to table a motion and didn't, then when the SNP got the chance to, Labour's shenanigans and Hoyle's complicity served to break protocol and for an amendment before the vote, scuppering the SNP's vote and claiming it for themselves. Even the Tories were appalled at Labour.

Personally I voted Green not because of my MP's failure to vote for ceasefire but because of Starmer's attitude to Gaza & also his attitude to green policies & 3rd child tax. I spent a few days campaigning in Bristol for the Greens, people I spoke to broadly had already made their minds up on labour's Gaza position.
Thangam Debbonaire wasn't specifically mentioned but instead Starmer's comments (especially the LBC interview).
The largest issue however was probably housing, something I've not seen the media mention when discussing the Bristol result.
I'd say Gaza, (while a top-5 issue), wasn't the issue that tipped the result.
Top 5 issue, I can guess in which areas of Bristol.
Yeah I’m Bristol and voted Green too and I’d think climate change, housing and other issues were likely more important to more Green voters here than Gaza. It’s horrendous what’s happening over there but I don’t see it being a top voting issue for that many people.

@@gamerknown are the workers party big on dealing with climate change? Havent the Greens opposed housing developments whilst wanting more housing built though ? In fact all parties have done that .

It’s a disgusting waste of life
I’ll tell you why you lost your seat. You’ve been a rubbish MP for your constituents.
Bristol Central doesn't support transphobia. Trans rights are human rights. Thangam has been on the wrong side of the womens safety debate.
Thangham Debbonaire will be elevated to the House of Lords soon and will continue being arrogant and incapable of accepting any responsibility for her defeat. The new constituency of Bristol Central is a slightly smaller Bristol West. Debbonaire had a huge majority at the 2019 GE and one of the biggest CLPs in England. Suspensions of members and disillusionment with Starmer resulted in the hollowing out of the CLP. In the May 2021 local elections only three Labour councillors remained within the boundary of Bristol West as the rest were Green. This should have been one of the safest Labour seats in the country. At the recent local elections the last three Labour seats within the boundary of Bristol West also went Green. If Thangham had been defending her seat using the old boundary of Bristol West she would have had an even worse result. The council wards of Easton and Lawrence Hill have substantial Muslim communities but are now within the revised boundary of Bristol East. A huge Gaza ceasefire demonstration had assembled in Easton to march to the city centre. There was no official Labour presence on that march. As regards Bristol East the Labour vote at the general election was much reduced with the Greens coming in second. Within the new boundary of Bristol East there are three Labour councillors, two LibDems , two tories and nine Greens. Maybe this will cause concern for Labour MP Kerry Mccarthy.
Cost. The association with keir. Keir seems to have no principles and seems very flakey on basic human rights ethics and war crimes.

The same script from labour as labour together did to the Corbyn project.
I think the voters also had some say in that .
And years of tory proporganda.
The ‘playbook’ she refers to here is called politics.
All any of them need to do is show a belief in the rule of law. The laws of this country AND international law.. They love to complicate this, but its really simple - conduct your foreign policy within the law.
Labour didn't lose Bristol Central because of Gaza.
Bristol has been swinging Green for years, and Debonaire only got in in '17 and '19 because the Green support lent Labour its votes to shore up the anti-Tory bloc.
That's not how they are choosing to remember it. History doesn't exist when it comes to people like this, just the story they insist on telling and MSM persists in giving credence to.
I think dropping the 28 billion climate change target and the general shift of Labour to the centre right when Bristol is pretty progressive and leftwing was much more behind her loss in Bristol Central. I expect Gaza was a factor for some but I’d guess the other two were larger factors for more people. And I live in Bristol Central and did a day of campaigning for the Greens. Green won by over 10,000 votes too so it wasn’t a close run thing.

I swore I would not vote labour after the way Jeremy Corbin was treated as well as Gaza and I was so pleased to at last be able to vote with my heart rather than just to get the Cons out . I'm happy to see you go Thangam
All the Labour MP's that lost their seat are now coming out and playing the victim. Try think about the victims in Gaza and not yourself and the loss of your sweet tax payers job. Cretins like john Ashworth crying about it all on LBC was pathetic as well.
This was the main seat I was watching on election night and hoping the greens over turned. It sent a huge message.
She is gross, Bristol has voted and we are happy
Erm 🫤 she should have done better for Gaza and Labour was what sunk her is correct so all she doing in huff is showing that Labour failures on Gaza
Labour are cowards.
Greens lying just like your party ,Well i never,
Labour tried to blackmail people into voting for them by claiming that if you voted for anybody else you would enable the Tories. I'm so glad that i listened to Owen Jones and voted Green
Excellent clear report. Ta. So rare.
It's 5 pro-Gaza independents, you forgot Jeremy Corbyn. On Gaza and many other issues Plaid Cymru (4 MPs) and the SNP (9) have the same position, so that's 22 altogether. At least 4 Labour MPs will vote against their whip if there's such a vote again, probably a couple more. So the total could get to 30.
Last November, Labour were explicitly opposing a ceasefire on the grounds that "it would give time for Hamas to regroup". But even before that, as soon as I heard Starmer's LBC interview, I knew that sooner or later we'd be listening to Starmerites trying to rewrite history
Starmeroids, the correct term is Starmeroids ;)
She was an awful MP.
One of the big decision points in the polling booth is: which of these candidates do I want to email if I need the support of my MP? Thangam needs to deal with the fact that Bristol Central thinks they'd get a better response from Carla and she'd be more likely to raise a question in the house. They didn't want YA centrist Starmerite. Gaza is an emotive issue, but so is climate change. Debbonaire isn't a bad politician and it was just unfortunate for her that she ended up against Denyer. The Greens landed all four of their target seats, two unseating Tories, with all due respect, this wasn't personal to Debbonaire. She'd get more sympathy if she learned to lose graciously. She lost the election when she ran away from Owen Jones! 🤣
Hillary Clinton narcissistic vibes...
I think, from the point of view of psychological and emotional integrity, it is an untenable position to be a member of the Labour party and simultaneously, have an issue with lying.
I voted Green after voting Labour in every election since 1979.
Wow she's really annoying.
She's lying right now
This time around, for the first time in my life, I did NOT vote Labour and that was because of their nonchalant attitude on Gaza + Labour has gone further and further to the right in the last few years. Side note: as a Bristolian myself, I can confirm that Bristol is awesome 😊.
The only shared playbook between greens and reform as that they tap into the widespread feeling that the main two parties are (as much as i hate the guy, Galloway said it right) two sides of the same arse.
Shame on her for not accepting that the blame lies with her and the party she represents
As a scouser, I have looked in envy at Bristol's turning towards the greens from the 1980's onwards, and this is an example of why.
I cannot believe that she thinks stealing another party's rightful day to propose a motion that the Labour Party had its own days to do so but didn't bother to use those makes anything right about their party! They totally broke democracy just to suit themselves. All of them should be kicked out of government.
"I didn't vote against genocide because I thought it would be bad for my career and it turned out to be bad for my career anyway please feel sorry for me"
"I'm not going to vote for a party that is complicit in that." How many of us were aghast at the number of friends and aquaintances that supported Labour despite the moral bankruptcy of their position?
All these sour grapes got me puckered like a raisin 😢
This woman is so typical of politicians of our time. Especially Labour MPs. Slimy weasel words delivered in a smarmy self pitying pompous way.
Oh yeah. I detest most of the UK MPs. They do not represent the people at all.
'Everyone using the same pkaybook' indicates there is no 'playbook' but a fundamental error in your own decision.
What is this necklace?😂😂
"It's a danger if you get in the habit as a campaign and political party of saying things that are actually not true, but sound good"
"I actually did vote for a ceasefire, not once but twice"
Sounds good, shame it isn't true. Crazy how Labour can say "lying is bad" and then immediately lie. Do they think we're stupid?
This candidate confirms I was right (in my mind) to not vote.
Labour wanted any motion that used the phrase "collective punishment" to be removed from discussion. This is because a motion that passed using this phrase would have legal consequences for Israel. Something Sir Kid Starver was keen to avoid.
"Because it didn't mention the hostages."
No, it's because the motion did mention the term "collective punishment."
and it didnt mention the hostages .
Thangam Debbonaire is such a nasty piece of work. I was in the Labour Women's conference meeting (via Zoom), where we were consolidating the social care policy from all the different proposals from different constituencies into a single policy platform. I and a lot of those other women there noticed that the commitment to providing free social care - which was in every single proposal - had been removed. That was against the rules - Labour head office wasn't supposed to interfere with the policy. We started to raise hell, and referred back to our own versions to point out how it had been removed and that wasn't OK- it was a key thing disabled people wanted to see.
In comes Thangam, to lecture us about how if we included that promise of free at the point of use social care, it would be just another stick for the Tory press to beat us with. It would cost us the next election! Did we want that on our conscience? Just think of all the other good that a Labour government would do for disabled people, we'd be throwing all that away! Surely we could see that?
Some argued against her, she just kept repeating that it would be just another stick for the Tory press to beat us with, and would cost us the next election AND IT WOULD BE OUR FAULT. It didn't matter that it was a clear demand that came direct from Disabled People's Organisations. She bullied us all until we dropped our objections to that part. I cried, she sympathised with me like I was a child but told me how it was too big a thing to promise and Labour would lose the next election because of it. It was horrible. I stopped paying my subs and am no longer a Labour Party member.
(If you want a more contemporaneous account, I did speak to John Pring of the Disability News Service or DNS about it, just search for Thangam Debbonaire DNS & it comes right up)
So I celebrated somewhat to hear she couldn't get elected, and I am completely unsurprised she's being just as manipulative and untruthful as I know her to be.
Dalia, is a pleasure to listen to and to look at.
P.s. I said what I said.
She was part of the 2016 chicken coup-and there you have it.
Afterall a ceasefire would have only helped the hostages if they got a namecheck in the proposal.
