Very similar interface and software as shown in the video. The main differences are the computerized algebra system in the CAS version and the additional features that are useful in calculus and other advanced math/science courses. The CAS is not allowed on the ACT, but it is valid to use on SAT AND AP. The CX version is allowed on all three of those tests. Obviously the outer color is also different on the CAS with dark grey and black.
I stumbled upon this nearly by accident, but let me tell you, I have never been so captivated by any film ever. This film takes excitement, brevity, and a dash of humor, and mixes it together into what I consider one of the better reviews of any calculator this decade. At 1:16 I was laughing my ass off. At 1:43 I was balling my eyes out. And I could not believe that plot twist at the end. I don't mean to make any impulsive statements, but I would honestly compare this to Steven Spielberg's famous 'Jaws', simply because of the rollercoaster of emotions this film took me on. I sincerely thank you for creating this, and I can honestly say I now know which calculator I want to buy.

The old cliche, a picture is worth a 1000 words is prescient here. I found this clip on a search to find out the differences between the 2 products. Since I'd hit a stumbling block with functions on the CX (laptop version) I needed to know what were in fact the limitations of the calculators or could it be a lack on know-how on my part. Cam's visual clip explained a lot more in a couple of minutes than poring through pages of TX instructional pdf's. Thanks Cam.

What's BS is on the CX (non-CAS) they still put functions that only work on CAS. If it try to make it do a limit, a window literally pops up and tells me that I should have bought CAS so it would work. That's like having 2 identical keyboards, 1 labeled "keypad" and the other not, so when you buy the one not labeled key pad and try to use the keypad, a window pops up and says "sucks for you, should have bought the one with the functioning key pad."
Dude look up a software called Khicas by Bernard Parisse it requires ndless but then you essentially have a CAS on it

I haven't actually gotten to use such advanced functions yet, but I will let you know when I do. You must be in a very high level of le mathématique

you shouldn't be relying on a calculator to do well on a test anyway.

GooglePlusIs 1940Germany no we're absolutely not. I'm in calc III at my university and I haven't used a calculator since high school. Maybe for the SAT II they give you questions that have weird numbers and need a calculator, but in school a good professor will give problems that use numbers that can be done in one's head.
Justin DiPlacido I got A's in Calc I, II, III, and Differential Equations without a calculator (wasn't allowed). As a senior EE student, however, not having a good calculator to do complex integrals, solve for the roots of higher order polynomials, and solve large systems of equations would slow me down so much on tests that I probably wouldn't finish. It's just a tool to make your life easier so you can focus on the real learning.
Justin DiPlacido That's interesting. I'm a finance major and I can't imagine doing the math required by hand. Most tests have about 35 questions, many which are multiple parts and require graphing. Logs in particular would be beast to complete in adequate time to complete the exam. You guys must be dealing with small numbers and simple problems to not need a graphing calculator. Maybe I'll change my major to engineering.

This is very useful for me because I can practice for the ACT with my CAS pretending it’s non CAS then only have to borrow my friend’s non CAS on test day:)

Say I, hypothetically, was going to do the accounting for some dangerous drug dealers and, hypothetically, would need one of these for that sort work. Hypothetically speaking, which one of these do you think would double as a good self defense tool? Like, say, is one of these more bullet proof? Purely just only solely asking out of raw natural unsuspicious curiosity.
Had the CX with me in Nam and it didn’t do jack for me. The vietcong were on me like bees on honey. The CAS on the other hand proved worthy during the Cold War. I lined my body with them and the people called me Iron Man from the rooftops!

I wouldn't buy one of these just for the ACT. You should be looking at the math class you'll be taking, and what that requires you to do. You don't even need a fancy calculator on the ACT pretty much because there's no time to be typing stuff in. A lot of it is mental math or done on paper. So either one will be more than enough for the test.

So how would you choose? The Texas Instruments NSPIRE CS Color Graphing Calculator CAS has everything except Algebra 1 & 2, and Pre- Algebra not included. Would it still have the same function either way? I've haven't really tested or really " Tried it "

The CAS has more features and is more powerful since it's a "computer algebra system". Not sure why the price difference. Might just be a case of supply and demand.
I got my brand new cx cas and the battery wont charge at all.
If I plan on taking Calc (1, 2, and 3), diff eq, linear algebra, advanced Calc, and those upper level math courses, would the TI Nspire Cas be a suitable calculator?
+OMNISCIENTHUMAN Id say either for 1 and 2. Although I'd advice cas for 3 and up. Linear classes typically don't allow a calc though. At least mine didn't.

On the college board website, it says that both TI-Nspire CAS/TI-Nspire CX CAS are allowed but in the paragraph below, it says Models that have typewriter-like keypad, pen-input, or stylus are not allowed. So can someone tell me if it is allowed? Website: sat.collegeboard.org/register/calculator-policy
Neither of them have a type-writer keypad. The keypads are in alphabetical order so they are allowed. If they were in qwerty format like on a computer, they would not be allowed.

They're both equal for the subjects you listed. Calculus is where the CAS is better

TI-84 doesn’t have as many cool functions/features like the nspire, but it will still do what you need for the subjects you listed

Yeah I noticed they have a different tint to their color as well.
Brightness can be changed, with ctrl + or -
Mendel Jacks its like jungle said, its the tint itself has a different tone. cx features a warmer tone and cas features a cooler tone.

CamsPlantedTank unscrew like 4 screws and swap them out they should be directly compatible.

Just the CAS version isn't allowed, and that's because it can do algebraic operations which means it does everything you would need to know for the test.

incognito_ d no. The CAS model can do algebraic problems. For example, 23+3x = 5x -2.
