    I did some work on old lighting desks that were laced with CD4066 for scene select routing for the old 15vdc dimmer controls, and built a foot peddle add on for a guitar amp to select different pots into the overdrive gain section. Great device for its time.

    The long tip markers are of interest, and the breadboard power supply, which I do not have.

  • @ParallelLogic
    @ParallelLogic ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Warning: those breadboard power supplies DON'T fit in protoboards. All the protoboards I've found move the power rails in closer together than on breadboards, so anything like this that assumes a particular spacing between the power rails won't fit. Also, they're center-pin-positive, FYI, on the input barrel jack.

    I built a laser harp a few weeks ago! Different kit but still. It's a fun kit and trinket to mess with. Aligning the laser to the sensor and getting the mount that holds the lasers somewhat square was annoying.

    Those chips could be fun to play with.
    Nice pens, useful too.
    I hope you have better luck than I did with my Laser Harp. I couldn't get it to work at all. :(
    I have so many of those Breadboard PSU's LOL.

    Nice tip for power protection on those breadboard power supplies - it's the sort of thing I'd like to see from the manufacturers. Heck, maybe now someone's given them the idea ....
    I'm looking forward to the kit build.

    I need to get a set of those markers. They seem like they'd be really handy in the shop. I vote sooner rather than later on the harp...and thanks for the bread board power adapter tip...I didn't know about the fail short.

    The 4066 might be useful for USB switching between two computers. hooking a mouse to in for A/B and a keyboard for C/D and a small amount of wiring, two DPDT switches and power shared from the computers to power the switch. I found it easier to find DPDT and not 4PDT switches. just a thought as data lines would need to be switched and not the power. I previously looked in to them for making my own KVM switch and found an analog printer switch box that worked better for my purpose many years ago and since been relegated to the recycling pile.

    I think it is worth to build yourself a additional "crow bar" circuit, to protect your project from overvoltage.. Or maybe it is possible to solder a bigger Regulator on the board. Like a 7805. They are way more forgiving than the AMS 1117-x.

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the LM78xx series are a lot harder to kill. They've been my go-to for a long time.
      There's not a lot of room on these little boards for those, though.

    Can you show your office storage of all components? I would like to see your organization of components. I assume your office is in home to keep dry (not in a separate shop building). Moisture in winter here is very moist, I cannot afford to heat shop daily. I use spare bedroom as tech office. Ineed to start collection of parts.

    Have you tried using inline current sensors as track detection?
    I always wondered how well they work.

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a time honoured method, but not one I have used.
      Using optical sensors allows me to see if a part of the track has an unpowered car. And works even when the trains are not in motion.

    I have one of those usb-c cables, mines much more accurate, .1-.5 deviancy in my testing, I use it often, it's pretty handy to see what's actually pulling power and how much, for example a handheld device won't display when power is pressed.. is it actually dead or is it a display issue?

    Just a thought: if you flash pages with tracking numbers, it could make masking your address on the envelopes less effective (depending on where you had the package delivered and how much info the carriers share on the tracking websites).

    I'm learning about electronics and currently exploring audio switching. Recently, I learned about CD4052 which has an additional negative power input, this led me to consider building a negative rail. However, I'm unsure about the implications of shifting the audio above 0V for a CD4066, so I decided to explore the CD4052 as an alternative. Will be good to see your results :)
