@@Bubba__Sawyer wth are you smoking. it was paid a mark. I can't stand people like you that talk smack but clearly don't watch the vision. It went much further than 10m. that's a lie. He marks it, 2 guys are 10m over the mark, instant 50m. Scott moved 2m at most, and only because he had 2 guys literally steaming at him 10m over the mark. One of the worst non-calls of 2024.
Using your flawed logic, basically anytime someone marks the ball, players can just run 10m over the mark and pressure the player and 'assume' the ball didn't go 15m. Laughable and idiotic take. Next time, a player can just run 10m over the mark and say 'I assumed it was touched off the boot' and not be paid a 50m? As dumb as Laura Kane.

God McClure and Wilson are so wrong here and once again the ex-players are the only ones speaking sense. McClure and Wilson are effectively saying 'just leave it alone' an issue that has been ongoing for weeks and weeks that they have also had frustrations with, whereas Cornes and Lloyd are stating 'there has to be clarity of right and wrong with the decisions'. So should the AFL give a full debrief of every single wrong call in every AFL game? Errors in the first quarter are just as impactful as errors at the end of the game so focusing on isolated decisions heightens the (emotional) notion that one decision cost team A the match.

    • @Littleyeti7
      @Littleyeti7 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@jsequine927 nope, but they need to stop pretending it’s going great and maybe give more insight into umpires reviews and coaching. They act like it’s perfect when fans know there is horrid decisions. Fans want to know the umpires are being spoken to about their poor decisions, that they’re trying to work on avoiding them again. But for example when Andrew Stephens, umpire number 12, can go for two years straight being entirely confused about a couple of rules and consistently paying awful free kicks in the same situations, it needs to be addressed and doesn’t seem like it is. If it is and he still can’t get it right, he can’t be umpiring top level.

I feel she was a total div hire and this is what happens when someone is employed for other reasons than they are competent to fulfil the role they've been employed to do.
Furthermore, Laura has enjoyed being on TV and all the attention she was getting, but as soon as she speaks its either corporate speak or she mainly doesn't know what she's talking about. Although some rules are for player welfare, there have been far too many rules changes to improve the marketability of the game for pure profit. First they introduce rules because the game is getting too fast and injuries are occurring (limited interchange) but then they introduce rules to speed the game up (standing the mark, centre bounce zone requirements). They just need to leave the unnecessary rules alone because they can barely get the ones that do address player welfare correct.

Have loved AFL for 40 years. Never had an issue or lack of knowledge around rules.
For the first season in 40 years, I can honestly say I am confused about the rules of AFL.
Everyone supporting a club will debate a decision with friends that went against them over the weekend.
Always been that way, always will be. But it was always about a decision the umpire might have gotten wrong or a difference of opinion.
Never during the conversations did we question what the decision was for. Rules were clear.
In 2024 I find myself absolutely puzzled by decisions, holding the ball is a prime example, I find myself watching and don't yell BAAALLLL anymore as I have no idea if it will be paid or not.
Something is seriously wrong and Laura Kane, after less than 1 full season, has made a massive negative impact in her short time.
Resign, reset with the next person in line, and bring some damn clarity.
Feel sorry for the umpires, must be the ones suffering the most under such inconsistent rules.

Yeah it's impossible because there are too many conflicting things. Like one player can do 10 throws a game while another player receives a good tackle and does a good job disposing of it and it's holding the ball or illegal disposal 😂 one minute a player gets shoved in the back in a marking contest blatantly and it's missed and then you see a player throw himself to the ground in a tackle with the tackler falling to the side but that's somehow in the back 😂😂. I don't think it's fixable In its current climate.

McClure lives in a world that screams its all about me, life is all about what I want, screw everything and everyone else. He's gotten worse since he came over to Nine.
I understand that Andrew Dillion has a deep understanding of the AFL and of Aussie Rules, but he's still corporate first and that makes him an enemy of the fans. You just can't argue against that given what has happened in the AFL since Andrew Demetriou's departure. Gillon was not as good, now we have worse. What blows my mind is the fact that the rules of the game are becoming so ludicrously technical that it's inevitable that umpires will have to make more difficult decisions. The more technical the more grey things get, where there isn't unanimous opinions on how a rule should be interpreted. Instead of adding layers of complex rules, remove them and leave the bare minimum of black and white rules that don't need to be interpreted. Let players play, allow umpires to blow their whistles less. Thats how you solve the issue but instead the afl want to add rules akin ti government legislation and then make umpires enforce them in a split moment.

Lloyd is right, when you change rules so Willy nilly in the middle of a season, and interpretations the next week on the whim of one coach’s comments then you’re opening yourself up for criticism. Now the AFL is back tracking on the transparent explanations (which personally I think is a stupid idea that opens a whole can of worms - unless you’re going to explain every incorrect decision during the games).
Of course Chris Scott’s opinion carries weight but no more than the other 17 coaches. Making decisions on the run opens up the idea that the AFL can be coerced into making changes that benefit certain opinions. And the cycle continues. Don’t make decisions without proper consultation and don’t change things mid season. The AFL has opened itself to multiple criticisms because it has been very reactionary on multiple fronts and every change has a cause and effect.

There should never have been a rule change to make rushing a point illegal in the first place. If it ain't broke.. don't try to fix it. If it costs the opposition victory at the death of a close game, then it's no different to the other tactics used to slow the game down, including kicking backwards. Correction.. Kicking backwards in the last three minutes of a game is much more common and much worse, and should be made illegal.
Like most, I also hate the stand the mark rule. How many more 50 metre penalties are going to be triggered, as players try to rush downfield past the player who's just marked.. almost always at a distance of at least five metres, with no intention to restrict or interfere with the ball in hand player's options?
The whole thing's a recipe for disaster that would have been easily identified as such by parents watching an under 10's game. Just make it illegal to approach the player, including cutting off his option to play on, until the umpire calls PLAY ON. Common sense would then prevail if an opposition player running past tried to disguise an interfering or restricting action. the umpire would be on the spot, and could easily and accurately read the situation.. moreso even than whether a player didn't make a sufficient attempt to keep a ball he had possession of in the field of play. etc etc..

ALL AFL clubs spend vast amount of money in an attempt to gain an additional 1% on field advantage, AFL clubs are big business.......yet they are not allowed to question an umpire's decision that cost them games?
Adelaide vs Sydney 2023 and the "No Goal" as an example that cost Adelaide (and others e.g. SANFL) vast sums of money, no final's tickets sold, merchandise, 2024 memberships etc......along with the fact it also cost individual's money e.g. Crows coaching staff bonuses, players contract clause payments etc.
AFL if you don't want to be questioned on umpiring decisions the key is to GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, not to stick your head in the sand and hope it goes away.
    - 4 umpires and yet it seems there are way more incorrect calls than ever, pay them properly and train them properly and then the standards will lift
    - technology is available and not used, look at sports world's best practices
C'mon AFL....make the effort in actions not words.

It looks like the AFL have forgotten that they are merely the custodians of the game which belongs to the fans. They are screwing the game up and they can’t/won’t explain decisions. If nobody understands the rules, how can coaches train players how to play within the rules? There is too much left to interpretation of the umpires. A succession of poor decisions cost the Bombers momentum and possibly the match against the Cats. Bad umpiring should not be the conversation we are having, but it is. Stonewalling by the AFL is only ruining the game and will ultimately turn fans away. I wonder how this shamozzle is going to be viewed against Laura Kane’s KPIs.

We talk about the umpires because the umpires are deciding and changing games. Holding the ball changes from game to game. Even in game, you can have two basically identical moments and one is called play on, and the other is called holding the ball.
It's frustrating the fans, let alone the players who have no idea what they're supposed to be doing.
For 100 years, if you've had prior opportunity and get tackled - that's a free kick.
I understand it isn't an easy gig but the umpires aren't stupid. There is clearly a direction (or misdirection) from AFL house. I bet even the umps have no idea half the time.
The games have become a basket case since Laura Kane was appointed.
Imagine if the Essendon V Geelong game was a prelim or even GF. Is that what we want in our game?
