Of all of the music I played in band somehow this simple, repetitive piece stands out. Years later I can still hum it from memory and it gets it stuck in my head from time to time. What a great piece of music that was a joy to play
Jesus christ i just had this THRUST back into my memories after so many years. I love this piece, as a tenor saxist who had to play the trombone solo bc we didnt have trombones. I. LOVE. THIS. PIECE.
Shostakovich is a brilliant representative of the fine, generously gifted section of the Russian intelligentsia. Deep gratitude to the LORD, for every perfect gift comes from Him! Hallelujah!
I listen to this last night, then it played on a TV commercial today. I kept stressing because i could not figure out where i heard the song before, i went crazy before i finally remembered it was your arrangement is where i heard it
That happened to me today with an instagram ad!! I had to ask another band friend because I was 2 steps from insanity trying to figure it out. I heard it andd instantly started humming before I dramatically gasped at it 😂
This piece is interesting because even in the original form it is very simple the only change I could really spot was the second tenor saxophone being replaced with the second alto and some of the alto saxophone parts moved down an octave
I love the euphonium part but why is it so high. downbeats and having Melody and off beats are ok but it’s just that the euphonium had so many parts just too much
Yuzh No, it's correct. The original was indeed a musical piece for that movie but then Shostakovich reworked the piece and orchestration to be included in the Suite for Variety Orchestra. What is a very common mistake is that this is titled as a part of Jazz Suite no. 2 which is an entirely different piece. Blame the wrong credits given by the hit Stanley Kubrick movie "Eyes Wide Shut" for that.

3:13 i LOVE the clarinet harmony
I got to play first clarinet on this song. It was really fun!
I thought I was the only one who heard it!!
I played first clarinet on this too!
I played 1st so I think I'm in🤔
ME TOO
Oh boy do I love playing tuba. I love downbeats so much...
Same here!
relate
Meh. I play bass clarinet. I like the up ones better.
Lmao... i play trombone, which for the most parts is the off beats. (Except for my short solo)
I must say the tuba player In This recording was good

Your band didn't have trombones?
How- wha- *sobbing*
The horn part in this song is amazing. You can just bob along on the downbeats
Was supposed to play this for our Prom last schoolyear, the missed opportunies, the memories, it all comes back whenever I hear this piece.
I was supposed to play this in a band this summer to bad I couldn’t
the first thing i learned on mallets, always a favorite
Accidentally came upon this. My marching band used this one year, lol.
0:53 this line of notes is so epic
hope my spring concert is still on because I really wanna play this piece
rip
What instrument do you play?

Thank you for incloding the orchestral score, along with the recording.
whoaaaaaaaaaaa i just started this as a piano and flute duet with my friend! Seems like this piece is getting more popular, and I love it!!!
I love this piece so much!!! I’m so excited for this!
2:12
my favourite part to play as a clarinet player
God I hope you’re joking lol. I’m on first for it and tbh I will never get it I swear
The french horn part absolutely takes out your chops
Shostakovich is a brilliant representative of the fine, generously gifted section of the Russian intelligentsia. Deep gratitude to the LORD, for every perfect gift comes from Him! Hallelujah!
Shostakovitch was atheist, he doesn't believe in God, it would be nice if you stopped bringing religion into everything
The trombone solo was cool i enjoyed playing it
Alto Sax too
i loved playing it
Also trombone, the recording is in youtube too. Though its my highschool band so the quality is meh
lol the person that was playing that solo wasnt playimg loud enough so they made me do it with him, a euphonium
I’m a trombone player, but I honestly wish it wasn’t a trombone solo. I wish it were a Euphonium solo. Trombones are generally too sloppy.

I'm just practicing sight reading on my horn and Oooo I totally feel it at 0:44

Linda!!!
I picture this song being played on a merry-go-round. XD
It's too great to be a song for a merry-go-round.
It kind of sounds like the Haunted Carousel by Erika Svanoe
I was going to play this on flute, but I left for vacation and a violin had to substitute for my part.
I’m currently learning this on flute, and it’s very fun to play!
MUHTEŞEM
Haha. I don’t know how to read sheet music.
Kubrick.
Si può avere questo spartito? GRAZIE.
We should see saxophone parts in more orchestral arrangements than we do.
👏👏
Это точное представление
Is it me or does it sound like it’s in cut time instead of 3/4
El Jefe the 3/4 measures are written in pairings, so it could feel like cut time if the two beats were triplets
There's really no such time as 3 anyway. There's only 1. What's important is how that 1 get's subdivided.
Band instructor decided to cut 80 of the trumpet part because the trombones and tuba had it already.
I wish my school played this. I play oboe. One of the hardest woodwinds
Great
Roll credits...
is there any piano sheet for the piano intro?
00:02
Hands down I feel like this song should've been in nightmare before Christmas
My schools band has played this two years in a row and the band members want it to be tradition our directors not having our bs

Super Deluxe movie.
I wish bassoon got the melody 😔

Teve um doente que bloqueou a música no brasil ???
Eu to ouvindo de boas, se bloquearam já desbloquearam kkkkk
The name is wrong. This is music written by Shostakovich for the film "the First echelon". Unfortunately this error is widespread on the Internet.

I got it at YPSO and it’s spelled no 1 not no 2
oops nev mind Juan is right
Snare drum best
The 8th note part giving me brain hemorrhage
Ottimo arrangiamento. Ma esecuzione troppo lenta e pesante.
Everyone here really likes this piece, and I'm over here like:
haha chair go bum bum

Sheet music please? Parts?
Well at least you can enjoy the piece in percussion 😂
Is that a alto solo 😰
Played this song last semester, that is a trombone 1 solo
This is the most boring part and good piece a baritone sax player like myself can play it is good but no major Rhythm changes
:peepo:
