Ahhh Frank. He was such a cool cat. Every time I hear his songs, I want to make a martini and put on a fedora hat. He is really one of the best voices you'll ever hear.

People these days keep calling themselves 'Gangstas', 'Bangers', 'Pimps', 'O.G.s' and whatnot, but Sinatra & Martin come from a time when La Costa Nostra (Italian Mafia) ran cities like New York, Vegas & Chicago and 'gangsters' were the real deal.

Frank was the original teen heartthrob. Girls had never rioted for a popstar before. In the early 40s, Sinatra played the Paramount in New York. Girls lined up around the block. He would sing from 8am until 230am the next day. One day when girls outside couldn’t get in to see him they started rioting. Cops had to be called in. It was the first time girls had ever acted that way for a celebrity. Psychologists were asked to analyze the Sinatra phenomenon, to figure out what was going on with America’s young women. Legend

Frank started as a "band singer" with Tommy Dorsey in the 1940s, went through different styles until he hung it up. His voice became deeper of a different meaning 10-20 years after he sang this version.

I think it was this song (possibly a different Sinatra classic though)...where they recorded it live off the floor as usual in those days, in a large studio, and at the end of the take, the entire band rose up and gave him a standing ovation. Sinatra was so overcome by the gesture he actually fled the studio to compose himself.

P.S. .... just a follow up. I came across this guy because of a band in 1998. John Spencer and the Blues Explosion... however this song, someday baby, came out later. If you have never heard of John Spencer ... it's OK.... i was late too. In 1998 I bought Acme ... it was like their 5th or 6th album, but hey... better late than never. Enjoy 😉

Van, this song reminded me of growing up without TV, where I listened to a lot of radio, and would even walk to the library to rent records. I discovered and fell in love with Big Band music. The Glenn Miller Orchestra to be specific. I know you would love some of it. It’s funny how times change. Big Band, Sinatra, and all the other greats are what our grandparents got wild to, while their parents thought it was sending their kids straight to hell. You will dig this, if nothing else, for the drums. But the whole (digitally remastered) album is great. th-cam.com/video/obhtatr0uHQ/w-d-xo.html.
