As a staunch Vikings fan. I’m enjoying the Sam ride. But all the fans wanting to keep Sam are delusional. JJ is way more athletic, has a way stronger arm. If we like Sam’s elusiveness and playmaking ability, JJ is better in every way. KOC is what got this out of Darnold, he will get even more out of JJ.
And if we think Kwesi is going to let a 1st rounder not get the shot for his job based on draft history you aren’t watching the politics. He needs JJ to be great. And they will give him every shot possible.

Here is another thought, the elephant in the room NO ONE wants to talk about. WHAT IF Sam Darnold WAS the quarterback for 2025, let JJ sit, use him in some out of reach games (either winning or losing) and in 'garbage time' with an occasional start. See which is better and perhaps TRADE JJ for several good draft picks, KEEP Dam as #1 and let the best quarterback be the #1 starter. I think they need to explore that idea too.

It's not entirely unfair for people to still have reservations about Darnold. Is this a lightning in a bottle year, or has the real Sam Darnold finally stood up? Is he really this good, or the product of a system? Whatever Sam does, he should go to (or stay in) a place where he can succeed, rather than just chasing starter QB money. Ultimately I think Minnesota will be fine with or without him (would love to have him) due to McCarthy and the secret brew in the experimental lab (Daniel Jones). I just wish Sam many great years ahead because he's a great guy and player.

Pay Dornold while JJ sits and learns, then when Sam takes us as far as he can in the years of his contract, JJ takes over. All teams are looking for years of quality quarterbacking like the Packers have had. Or pay Sam, trade JJ to team a team with a top 10 pick and even have "other" picks involved. There is no problem sitting the draft pick for 2 years if you have a chance to make the Super Bowl with the bird in hand. If they go to the championship game both sides may want to do 1 more year, he may not make the championship game or have as good numbers, but he will not be bad. With 2 years teams are less hesitant to give him a contract. If they fall short of the championship game, they probably will go with the low-cost option.

JJ was never the starter in MN. The media just want to make a qb controversy for storytime. They all doubted Darnold, and wanted to be right about the date of a change to the expected bottom of the division qb after a first round QB pick. It is exactly what is going on in Atlanta.
There is no reasonable contract for Darnold moving forward. You either franchise him or pay him to be the highest quarterback salary as that is the requisite rate for the best available young quarterback with five teams as suitors. Do you expect Sam to take a 20 million dollar a year paycut to stay here, cause on a four year contract that is 80 million dollars and he is not making them up down the road. In a history repeats itself way, Darnold likely has Kirk Cousins career arc moving forward, as someone who plays well enough to be franchised, but moves because his team wont pay him what his market rate is whereas a desperate team will.
Sims comment on QB competition only shows you he never played on a good team. Teams in the 80s and 90s with QB competitions were teams trying to figure it out not teams trying to identify their best QB and win a superbowl, or even their division.

  • @nolongerblocked6210

I realize O'Connell is a QB guru, but the Vikings better sign Darnold to a longterm deal. JJ McCarthy is a completely unproven rookie, while you've seen Darnold lead this team to the 2nd best record in the conference. Why not let McCarthy sit & learn for 2-3yrs, like Jordan Love & many other's have done, while keeping Darnold & competing now for a Super Bowl berth?? Not signing Darnold to a longterm contract would be franchise malpractice, plus they'd probably get him for a very reasonable price(30-40 million per yr)
PS: plus keeping Darnold should help keep Jefferson happy too

How do you explain letting go or sitting down a QB that has had this much success. The goal is to find a solid starting QB and Sam Darnold has delivered.
Sorry but you sign Darnold for a healthy two year contract and let McCarthy grow over the next two years to become that guy. Just because he was a first round pick doesn’t mean he should get handed the starting job. You still gotta earn that and prove you should be the guy. Sing Darnold for 2 years and have a competition. Best QB plays!

Not a superstar but he just got NFC offensive player of the week.. you two are so disrespectful for telling someone who they are not.. a couple of gross constant bad review writers. I hope you both get fired!

Unless Slingin' Sam Darnold, America's Quarterback, takes the Vikings to the Super Bowl, they'll go with JJ. It's not coincidence that Cousins sucks now. It's not a coincidence that Darnold is suddenly a Pro Bowl level QB. This is all KO. He is the reason they can move on and not worry. KO could turn Daniel Jones into a Pro Bowler

Mike florio is the worst “Vikings” fan and constantly inaccurate with news … JJ was not suppose to start, Sam was always the starter and the fact that it’s coming towards the end of the season and we STILL have to address this … Mike do better bro..

Can we trade away Mike Florio? Clown acts like he speaks on behalf of Vikings fan or the organization. Dude is so clueless, negative and flakey.
Simms is way off too. Indicating he's not making splash plays and wow plays. Darnold has throw some bombs and made so many off script plays. I'm not saying he's MVP, but he's had more splash plays than Mahomes, Hurts and other top tier QB's.

It's not about getting the cap back in line.....
    Not anymore.
    They fixed that.
They can afford to sign a $40 million man....now. Because they fixed the cap problems.
