Mateusz Wojtkiewicz Great CPU still for most games even today. Next upgrade i say is prob worth grabbing dont rush this year wait next. I was on the 930 I7 for many years but it couldnt hold up to most games today so i jumped the gun to a 5930K but its because I stream on twitch and needed the extra 2 cores. Other than that your cpu is perfect for another year easy.
***** Thats part of the reason why i got it i had 770 3 way sli then i said fuck it and got the 980 Ti i plan to get another one later down the road this year for SLI Plus I also use it for the lanes for PCI E cards for sound cards and PCI E SSD make sure I have enough lanes.
this is the kind of shit Intel gives us when there's no competition. if you have a 4790/K, 3770K, or even 2600K not needed the platform upgrade then you don't need to upgrade
Artemis 2600k....I'd definitely suggest upgrading sometime soon, one would notice FPS bumps easily. Anything above that, like the i5 4690 of i7 4790, there is basically no need. Socket 1151 is a niche socket, and if one needed more performance than the 5000 series, they could go with the new xeon's which are amazingly powerful and efficient. Even a 4790k is going to be very good performance for years to come for home users. Anything more needed than that, and one would be better off looking into things like render farms anyways, or don't even care about the pricing of higher end stuff. Intel isn't giving us shit, it just has no competition to drive it to deliver more than increments. Even at this crawling pace, AMD has no hope of catching up. As soon as they come out with their next big chip, it'll probably only be as good as intels current offerings....and by then intel will have something to blow it out of the water. do I want more CPU power? sure. Do i need it? no, not really. Yeah it'd be nice for some CAD rendering performance, but it's not like I'm on a time table as a hobbyist, and if I needed it in a timely fashion for work, I wouldn't even be looking anywhere near the range of a 4790k or Skylake.
+C “N7” North I think the issue is more that we are approaching fundamental limits to lithography and engineering. Below ~4-5 nanometers, quantum tunneling makes classical transistors basically impossible, so companies like Intel will need to start shifting their attention to things like stacked chips or bigger chips to increase transistor count. Either way, in a decade or even just a few years, we'll likely not be able to further shrink transistors, and we'll have to engineer alternatives.
+C “N7” North true. for home users and casual gamers, something like i3-4130 would be good and reliable for years to come. and for those who already use i5 or i7 ivy bridge and haswell, skylake is really unnecessary
coldsoup49 I think the simple solution to that problem is 1) increase the surface area of chips 2) changes the material chips are made out of so they can run hotter we could for example, run 10Ghz cores on processors if the materials could handle the heat, and there's plenty of room to increase the size of chips. so there's plenty of room left to double the strength of current tech over and over again. beyond that, quantum tunneling could one day be a main driving force of computing design. It's really too far into the future to predict what will be the new computing medium in 2030 or beyond. We could be struggling still or have some massive breakthrough, or use current tech in ways never though possible. For example, by then computing may be stored in a single or series of global computing cores and wirelessly transmitted to operate all devices. So it might resemble something like a nuclear reactor, made out of diamond like materials, the size of a building, red hot, running at a billion jiggahertz, being cooled like a nuclear reactor, delivering the worlds computing power.
I'm growing potatoes in the backyard and it almost harvest time. How well can the i7 6700k cook my potato? I just put it over the CPU and run Aida64 right?
I'm still running my Q6600 2.4 @ 3.0 quad-core from 9 years ago ( overclocked on air for 9 years 24/7 ) with 8GB DDR2 and an Asus P5k ( annoying built in network card glitch which requires different settings otherwise it will blue-screen when you send any data over a local-network to or from another pc - after changing the settings, no issue ).... I haven't had any reason to upgrade until recently and have been getting away with video-card upgrades ( from an 8800 512mb or 1gb [ single or dual monitor setup ] or something which died with massive artifacting to a 9800 gt oc 1gb [ dual monitors ] to 750ti 2gb..[ dual and now triple monitor setup ] ).. 5TB mechanical storage and 1TB ssd right now... I do a lot of programming and haven't really been active for 5.5 years due to a MVA serious injury with no end in sight - but surgery "may" make things better although with the permanent nerve damage I suffered it is unlikely... I am considering either any of the 4-6-8-10 core w/ hyper threading options available, most likely on 2011v3 unless something else comes along which offers more than 4 cores and will be supported longer... The 8gb memory has started becoming too low especially when I have more than 1 game open with Chrome and my programming ide, and other background processes... 3 monitors isn't enough either, despite running many helpful utilities such as RestartOnCrash ( which loads all apps that I need to run in the background, or foreground at that time, through schtasks ) and AutoSizer which repositions and sizes windows to my specification on any monitor I want - something I recommend ( although I will probably code something better because this is annoying to set up and because of how Windows sets up monitors / resolutions with negative values needed for monitors to the left of the primary and the offset needing to be added into the value you enter -- mine will be choose the monitor, choose the position and size on that monitor without having to worry if you shift the offsets around with helpers so you can do everything without needing to type it in or guess where the window will be afterwards in addition to having options to remove borders, etc... ) among other apps... When I build a computer, I make it last...

Linus you should hire a make up artist in the winter because the green screen is not helping Luke's pale complexion and those purple bags stand out. Or you could just give your crew a 24/7 pass to tanning salon for Christmas.
Linus, I've been a fan of the channel for quite a while and just one pointer. You guys are now posting 4K and 1080p videos and that means more detail. So when you guys did a close up/zoom into Luke's face, oh man, he looked super fatigued/tired. While I don't mind it, try some light make up? Even professional broadcasts had to use make up for on-air personality because high definition picked up so much more facial details. I know you guys are always striving to be more professional and thought that this is something you guys could do. Keep up the good work!
@@mycelia_ow people said that back in the day and does it really matter? No it’s a slight bottleneck and not really an issue for 90% of people who have this two products in their system
+DnL Lmao so many errors in a single video. - "Four cores, four threads" - "Z71 chipset" - this one The whole team was drunk when they made this video.
And here I am... Still with my good old i5 2400... It manages to run every single game on the market and it doesn't seem to bottleneck a 970 so... I'm very happy with it!
i had a sandy bridge i7 2600 non k for 4 years. Recently upgraded to Skylake 6700k and it improved my gaming experience on AAA games like BF1 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. I think my old set up is just showing its age. Id say its an OK upgrade if you have a Sandy Bridge based pc and want to "modernize" your pc good enough for the next 4 years.
+berzu21 only really for a mini itx board, a decent z97 board and a cheap (but still just as good because x99 is an enthusiast/professional platform) x99 board cost roughly the same amount.
1toncheese yeh that my thought process, because 5820k will still be just as good as 6700k for gaming I think, but I can also use it for work. Is that the right logic?
+wrap267 yeah, I'm sure 2 extra cores, more cache and quad channel memory would be more useful to you than skylarks ipc improvements. can't quantify it unless you know what your working on though.
wrap267 Just built a new rig last month with a 5820k and a Titan X and it wipes the floor with the 6700k. Not in just gaming but also with the amount of video editing and and graphic design work i do.
5% improvement in 2015: "Not eye-popping but it's an improvement" 15% improvement in 2022: "WTF THIS IS STAGNATION, THEY SHOULD BE GIVING US AT LEAST 30%"
Back then we were in a golden age for GPUs but a dark age for CPUs now we are in a golden age for CPU but a dark age for GPUs (at least price wise on the GPU side)
I need some help. I'm currently creating a new build. I'm a gamer and youtuber. I do a lot of editing and I would like to push my editing to the next step without any preview lag. I have to work with the lowest of settings with my current build and editing is not fun. So I've built a $2000 (ISH) build below but I'm really stuck on which CPU to buy. If anyone could recommend what I should do, then please feel free to let me know. :) Thank you!! I've never overclocked before, I'm guessing this would change the decision. CPU - i7 6700k with 4ghz 4 cores OR i7 5820 with 6 cores 3ghz etc ?????????? Motherboard - MSI Z170A XPower Titanium Edition GPU - Nvidia GTX 1070 8gb ( Released Tomorrow ) RAM - Croasir DDR4 32gb RAM NZXT - Liquid Cooler NZXT - H440 Case SSD - Samsung 850 Pro 512gb HDD- 3TB Drive PSU - Corsair HX750i
Looks Good to me bud, I too am a gamer and a very new TH-camr who is considering a serious PC upgrade and your specs are pretty much what i had planned for a new build! I Hate the preview lag i get using a FX-4300 even at 4.Ghz lol I'll check out your channel
go with the i7 5820k, change the liquid cooler to the corsair 115i, get a non modulay 650w psu, get the 250gb evo ssd, get the 2tb hdd, replace the GPU with the gtx1080FTW edition GPU, and get the MSI X99A Sli Plus USB 3.1 Motherboard to fit the CPU in the socket.
***** The SSDs were PCI, so I couldn't have any more, the case doesn't support any more fans, and the smaller monitors are better than the 34 inch, so I use those for gaming and the 34 for watching netflix and surfing the web. I don't know much about peripherals, but I have tried the MX Master; I like it, but it wouldn't go with this build.
it'd be really nice to see comparisons of productivity. maybe rendering the same 2 minute long video on each setup out other similar comparisons. I know this is a mainly gaming pc centric channel but a little bit of productivity benchmarks would help me personally a lot.
VividBagels It's a saying that Jews have a lot of money (probably the massive tax breaks they got after WWII, so jews really do often have a lot of money lol) it's a stereotype that money=jews so since Intel is such a massive company he's saying Intel = Jews since Jews = Money and Intel = Money.
It’s amazing for me to think how many cpus have had in the span of 7 years, I bought the i5-6600k first then the i5-8600k and my latest cpu is the ryzen 9 5900x.
I upgraded all my equipment this summer. I plan on getting an Alienware Area 51 with the 6700k and 64GB of DDR4, a 1500 Watt EVGA power supply. I already have a Titan X to put in it and I have a curved HP 34" monitor. If you have a business, you can just business lease these computers for 0% interest if paid by 18 months...or buy it outright. I bought a new server for $10,000. I expect the computer to cost less than $3000. No game on the entire market needs those specs - not even Witcher3 on Ultra-Hi def... It'll be fun to be able to max every game out though. wish me luck. My LLC launches in September.
Just letting you know, the green screen is giving a subtle but drastic green hue to your skin from the color reflecting back. It's giving the impression that you're sick with something moderate. It's also the reason why some people are commenting about your eyes appearing baggy
I really really want more 3D printing content, There are so few consistent uploaders on this subject, I cant find reliable reviews for materials, parts, extractors and software. Also is a newborn market, a lot of small companies are offering 3d printers at incredibly cheap prices, so you can charge them to make them more visible towards a wider public. seriously I bought my 3d printer for like $350 and it's incredible for my Mechatronics engineer career, also for making gifts, diy projects and repairs. 2:55 why is there a woman figure thing in the background?
Perplexed Arctic Wolf you mean at 2:55 when the "pc master race symbol" scrolls by?
+Perplexed Arctic Wolf Yep saw it too.
Perplexed Arctic Wolf It was the PC Master Race guy xD
Pretty funny haha
Noah Fix Yes I mean 2:55
David Piercey that's not reddit's
05:50 Max-22 , Min-44 ?
+DnL LOL, good one.
+DnL nice one :P
+DnL He is about to fall asleep !!!!
+DnL Lmao so many errors in a single video.
- "Four cores, four threads"
- "Z71 chipset"
- this one
The whole team was drunk when they made this video.
I still use 2500k because i have real life bills to pay :C
And here I am... Still with my good old i5 2400... It manages to run every single game on the market and it doesn't seem to bottleneck a 970 so... I'm very happy with it!
i had a sandy bridge i7 2600 non k for 4 years. Recently upgraded to Skylake 6700k and it improved my gaming experience on AAA games like BF1 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. I think my old set up is just showing its age. Id say its an OK upgrade if you have a Sandy Bridge based pc and want to "modernize" your pc good enough for the next 4 years.
go 5820k or 6700k, similar in price?
Not in just gaming but also with the amount of video editing and and graphic design work i do.
berzu21
Well that is the "2 extra cores" thing i did mention as an advantage.
I still have my i7-860.. maybe I should upgrade
lol I still use my i3 550
+Mason Vanderpool i7 870 here
Pentium 3, 4000 fps on 4k crysis 69 with no heat
+Mason Vanderpool Intel core 2 quad q9300 I Need to upgrade aswell
+Asentrix eey, I7-870 buddies!
why didnt they put i7 5960x in the benchmark ?
+Matija Tkalec Because that's completely absurd.
why did intel release new CPUs if they arent better the the best current CPU ? At least cant they make skylake CPU with 8 cores hyperthreaded ?
Because people have different budgets and applications.
They will be releasing the high end ones later I assume.
Matija Tkalec they will when they update x99 ...
btw you can't compare a 350 $ cpu to a 1000$ cpu that is just pointless
+EV Video What does consumer grade mean, kept searching it up and still can't find the answer :P
The videos are much better with the orange then the fake kitchen. Well done guys!
In terms of the CPU, nice upgrade ill look at :-)
Love the subtle PC Master Race overlay.
Finally bought one to replace my FX 8120. I wonder how much of a difference I'm going to see lol.
notice anything ?
+Phoenix Wright A huuuuge difference in framerate in games like Arma and Squad. It's 100x better
going from fx 4300 to i5 6600
***** Dude, isn't it insane? Like I can actually play Star Citizen and Arma 3 now, it's crazy.
Cheers dude. Those are the gamed I play and wanna play better. Currently on a shitty 8350 and looking for an I7 6700k.
2019 anyone XD
who else saw the thing on the green screen at 2:56 lol
When you have really fast internet so TH-cam defaults to 4K, and your tablet crashes.
5% improvement in 2015: "Not eye-popping but it's an improvement"
15% improvement in 2022: "WTF THIS IS STAGNATION, THEY SHOULD BE GIVING US AT LEAST 30%"
Motherboard - MSI Z170A XPower Titanium Edition
GPU - Nvidia GTX 1070 8gb ( Released Tomorrow )
RAM - Croasir DDR4 32gb RAM
NZXT - Liquid Cooler
NZXT - H440 Case
SSD - Samsung 850 Pro 512gb
HDD- 3TB Drive
PSU - Corsair HX750i
Looks Good to me bud, I too am a gamer and a very new TH-camr who is considering a serious PC upgrade and your specs are pretty much what i had planned for a new build!
I Hate the preview lag i get using a FX-4300 even at 4.Ghz lol
I'll check out your channel
I would maybe try to cut some corners in some places to get a 5930k
The only advantage of a 5930k over a 5820k is the larger amount of PCIe-lanes, which you would only need for crossfire/SLI
go with the i7 5820k, change the liquid cooler to the corsair 115i, get a non modulay 650w psu, get the 250gb evo ssd, get the 2tb hdd, replace the GPU with the gtx1080FTW edition GPU, and get the MSI X99A Sli Plus USB 3.1 Motherboard to fit the CPU in the socket.
I pretty much went for exactly what you said but I stuck with the 1070 ;-)
I'm on a budget, but is this build okay? pcpartpicker.com/p/JP9sNG
***** Did I not say it's a BUDGET build? Do you think I can afford the $2.95 shipping on an MX Master?!
+Andloo Yunty hey what are you planing to do on it?
+Andloo Yunty You need 2 xeons... i heard they are the cheapest cpus on the market!
Ethan Ly You know, the usual stuff. Web browsing, facebook, minesweeper, and MS word/
6:30 Super serial overclocker?
***** serial = slick slang for serious :P
megaspeed2v2 its from southpark XD
***** Southpark got it from pop culture...
3:03 someone drilling? 3:08 and 3:16 torque driver? 3:21 audio pop? 3:23 and 3:33 more torque drivers? 4:49 audio pop? LOL at Luke's sudden haircut change 6:42. Didn't hear any trains, thumbs up?
it'd be really nice to see comparisons of productivity. maybe rendering the same 2 minute long video on each setup out other similar comparisons. I know this is a mainly gaming pc centric channel but a little bit of productivity benchmarks would help me personally a lot.
intel, do you jews realise that literally no one in the pc community buy cpus every 6 months
Kimster14 Yeah lol, I upgrade my GPU more than my CPU.
I don't get why they are Jews... Sorry, I don't know my insults. Can someone care to explain to me nicely?
VividBagels It's a saying that Jews have a lot of money (probably the massive tax breaks they got after WWII, so jews really do often have a lot of money lol) it's a stereotype that money=jews so since Intel is such a massive company he's saying Intel = Jews since Jews = Money and Intel = Money.
Me Myselfandi Thank you... and thank you!
For being nice and answering a question. It's letting me believe in TH-cam once again.

It feels like yesterday when I bought my cutting-edge i7-3770. I can't believe it's already 3 generations old.
It’s amazing for me to think how many cpus have had in the span of 7 years, I bought the i5-6600k first then the i5-8600k and my latest cpu is the ryzen 9 5900x.
i'm still rocking my sandybridge i5 2300, overclocked to 3.4ghz. It does perfectly well with my gtx 970, so no pressure to upgrade.
Nice informative video guys. It would be nice to see the classic Linus Tech Tips kitchen sink background :-)
Luke loves to do his signature praying hands during his presentation.
was running this in 1.25 speed from last video and didnt even realise until i heard the LinusTechTips opening
Still rocking my 2700k. Just started ordering parts for a Skylake build.
"now if you like me running skylake" in the beginning you said you still rocking the sandybridge.
and here i am, still rocking the Bloomfield. . .
The new background is weird, feels like I am watching a Soda commercial
Their setup with the 6700k and gtx 980 ti is exactly what i am going to be making in a week or so, awesome to have the benchmarks already
HAHA OMG that PCMR background scrolling across at 2:57!
Please people like this comment
very informative and the comparison was extreme great job!
Would be interesting to see similar numbers with Haswell-E (i7-5820k) overclocked as well. Hard for me to not want to go that direction still
@ 3:08 Sounds like a drill... must still be working on that office, get us another vlog! :D
Well... Looks like I'm sticking with my i5 2500k @ 4.7GHz for now. This CPU will never die!
You make me always like the video with your arguments!
that pc master race logo you snuck in ;) 2:55
Secretely this was a "most words/minute" guinness book of records attempt.
2:55 Glorious PC Gaming Master Race!
My 6700K is running stable at 4.8GHz on air. Couldn't be happier.
@2:55 PC Master Race guy flies by gracefully.
The 6700k build they used was the exact ideal build that I made on pcpartpicker the day I heard the 6th gen i-series were out... Down to the motherboard
Hell yeah! still rockin the i7 2600k! overclocked to 4.5 ghz too!
I assume that the electric drill sound in the background is there to remind us that construction is still going on, lol
still rocking a 2500k! All about that sandy bridge
You're still on 2011, I'm still on LGA 775 with a Q6600 ^^
And I still game on it with almost MAX settings on every games...
I've recorder 2 videos i you want to see that ^^
damn, that squeaky chair kills the video's vibe.
Thank you for finally making this video.
That moment when your 4790k test bench is exactly what is inside my computer.
Slick changed shirt AND got a haircut during a vid? Awesome!.
Dope shirt at the end dude
Luke either just smoked a bowl, or got done watching The Fault in Our Stars.
When he said "leave a like if you want to see the ultimaker 2" He said ultramaker 2 i did not realize that until just now
I love the pc master race ghost in the background.
