My album ranking: 1) Good Mourning 2) From Here to Infirmary 3) Crimson 4) The Alkaline Trio 5) Remains 6) Maybe I'll Catch Fire 7) Is This Thing Cursed? 8) Goddamnit 9) This Addiction 10) Agony and Irony 11) My Shame is True
Ak3 was my favourite band as a teenager between about 1999-2003, first band I ever saw live when I was about 13 in Manchester, UK on the FHTI tour. My friends and I walked past Matt a few hours before the show on the street. He obviously could see we were fans and came talked to us which was pretty amazing to us I loved the first three albums at the time but they’re pretty brutal listening back now. Some awful lyrics and really weird songwriting but there’s 5-10 great songs spread across the 3 albums FHTI, Good Mourning, Crimson and Remains is the golden period. A bit of filler on every album but almost all great Everything after that just sounds like uninspired radio rock to me. No shame in losing your inspiration 7 albums deep, all bands do, but those albums do nothing for me Enjoyed the video guys
It's cool how you really hear a distinct change in the drumming when Derek joined, he is an amazing drummer. My favorite is easily Crimson, not even close for me.
1. From Here to Infirmary 2. Maybe I'll Catch Fire 3. Good Mourning 4. Goddamnit 5. This Addiction 6. My Shame is True 7. Is this thing Cursed 8. Agony and Irony 9. Crimson
Are you a long time fan? I think for us, we all first heard Alkaline Trio around the "From Here to Infirmary" days and didn't hear Godammit until later on.
@@PunkRockRadar actually no, my boyfriend introduced them to me a while ago, with songs like clavicle, nose over tail, and fatally yours. I enjoyed those so I decided to listen to a good majority of their discography. That’s when I picked Goddamnit as my favourite! It was the first one I listened to from the start to the end and enjoyed the most.
@@PunkRockRadar Goddamnit & From Here To Infirmary, and the self titled collection, and Remains are all in my top. I love Good Mourning too though. From Here To Infirmary is near top as well. The way those first couple of albums are produced is also why I love them. The brittle sound of the guitar on Godamnit is part of why I love it. I will concede that those Dan Adriano sung songs are kind of weak. I'm also not a huge fan of Radio lol.
The first 2 albums are the best, and then the 2 compilations are also top tier. Remains and self-titled are epic. My Friend Peter, Bleeder, My Little Needle, Cringe, Clavicle, etc. I love when bands release alternative versions of songs, and I find that I prefer demos to actual releases. With The Chariot I downloaded a mix of the Goldman Demos/tracks of their first album. For years I couldn't stand The Chariot because I love raw gritty production.
Thanks for checking out the video! I think Matt putting Remains in the D-Tier is one of the most questionable takes in Punk Rock Radar history. I am totally with you that it's an epic record.
Yea man, long time fan here and i'm cringing at some of this, but hey we all have opinions and it's subjective. Been a fan since 2002 and i used to do acoustic covers of tons of their songs on youtube (super fan ha). For me it's 1 From here to Infirmity 2 Good Mourning 3 ST comp 4. Goddammit 5 MICF 6 Hot water split 7 One man army split 8 Crimson After that I don't have a string opinion, its on a song by song basis.
John’s list is pretty good. I don’t get the hate for Remains at all. It’s B Sides from the S/A tier records. The two splits are fantastic and Hell Yes, My Standard Break and Warbrain are classics. It’s hard for me to consider those comp records “real” full length records though. I think This Addiction is their worst record and it’s not even close. The title track, Off the Map and Fine are good but I wouldn’t listen to anything else from it. I’d do: S: Infirmary(Their Best, My favorite record, period, by anyone), Good Mourning A: Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, Crimson B: Remains, Goddammit C: S/T, (Then the big drop off)Is This Thing Cursed? D: My Shame Is True, This Addiction
IMHO, everyone is right, and everyone is wrong, but that is to be expected when we all love the Trio for our own reasons. I feel like Is This Thing Cursed? got less love than it was due. I do consider This Addiction and My Shame is True a bit of a low point, but the saving grace to both is Dan. I know Matt was in a certain head-space at the time, and that's ok, but I couldn't relate. Remains had some great sleepers like Queen of Pain and Hell Yes, (unmentioned) along with re-worked classics. I'd put it over the S/T. Goddamnit is slightly better than Maybe I'll Catch Fire. MICF is great but the prior is just a smidge catchier. I'm grateful y'all love Crimson, because it's an evolution. Here to Infirmary and Good Mourning and timeless. The only reason I like My Shame is True is because of Dan. Broken Wing could've same My Shame but luckily we got it on the Broken Wing EP. Regardless, I love all the insight and perception. Alk 3 fans appreciating the energy and music is community building. love y'all!
This Addiction isn't quite as bad as people think, but it does have the worst album cover of all time. For the longest time I didn't even check it out just because it looked so silly. Video was a fun watch for someone like me who is always going back to Alkaline Trio to find songs I forgot about. The first 4 songs on Is This Thing Cursed? are some of my favorite songs by them but the rest of the album is pretty forgettable. I do think it's a little better than My Shame Is True but they're pretty equal to me. Good Mourning to me is the best, some of their best songwriting and there isn't anything about the sound/production that pisses me off. Did somebody slag Cursive? Shame on you.
I can understand it, I think going through the Tier Lists, there is at least one album that I have attachment to due to the time period. Definitely part of the affinity process!
My Shame Is True easily goes at the bottom for me, just feels too dull and vanilla with no great tracks. I think Is This Thing Cursed? is better than This Addition and Agony.
I love 'Is This Thing Cursed?'. Such a great record in my opinion :)
I agree! Surprised that it didn't get more love when it came out
My album ranking:
1) Good Mourning

Same "S" as me, no argument here!
Pretty much perfect
You guys are fucking crazy. Self-Titled is S-tier.
Wow. My S tiers are ITTC, MICF and Crimson
PS: Damn I love Matt's side projects (Sekrets), cats and toads. Great video!
Thank you so much for checking out the video! No problems with your S Tier, they are all great records!
Highly recommend his acoustic split with Kevin Seconds
I've been binge watching ur videos ! Super underrated! Just like the band leatherface
Thanks so much for watching!! Have Millencolin and Leftover Crack coming up!

Crimson is so good, could easily go in my S Tier on any given day. Time to Waste, Burn, Mercy Me, Sadie, Back to Hell... So many great songs on there
its obv the worst!!!
@@kentmitchell7262 Get outta here, Crimson is a masterpiece! :D
“From Here To Infirmary” is my Number 1 Album of the 2000-2009 decade
I am with Matt on 'My Shame is True'. I did not think much of it at first, but grew on me a lot. Around a B for me.
1. From Here to Infirmary 2. Maybe I'll Catch Fire 3. Good Mourning 4. Goddamnit 5. This Addiction 6. My Shame is True 7. Is this thing Cursed 8. Agony and Irony 9. Crimson
Remains is a great rarities and B-sides collection. I got 7 from it in my #Top70AlkalineTrioSongs list :D.
I cant agree with goddamnit being lower than an S im so sorry. Lol, its my personal favourite album.

Crack rock steady tier list bout to be sick
We keep pushing it back but I think the next 3 are Lagwagon, Millencolin, then LOC Family, so it should be up sometime in May!

A: Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, Crimson
B: Remains, Goddammit
C: S/T, (Then the big drop off)Is This Thing Cursed?
D: My Shame Is True, This Addiction
Damn we are really close in our rankings! Matt's ranking of Remains is one of the all time bad takes in the show, totally agree there
Matt is the only one who really knows his alkaline trio😊

I can’t agree with any of them with Goddamnit in the C Tier
It was definitely tough, what would you put in C/D tiers?
@@PunkRockRadar in C I’d have my shame is true and this addiction and D tier would be agony and irony
It is tough though, because I love songs off of all three of those records
Lameassdads? More like kickassdads.
Let See. Let do fallout boy
Maybe, they have an album coming next week so it's definitely possible, not familiar with much of their catalog
Self titled

Did somebody slag Cursive? Shame on you.
I am pretty lock step with everything you said, aside from standing up for Cursive ;)
"Least popular" yet highest charted trio record lol
Unpopular opinion, but “My Shame Is True” is high on my list. It was the first full album I heard by them, so that may something to do with it.
I can understand it, I think going through the Tier Lists, there is at least one album that I have attachment to due to the time period. Definitely part of the affinity process!

100% agree on this, My Shame is True is so boring, Is This Thing Cursed doesn't get the love it deserves!
goddamit is there best album duh, lost me right up front
This is blasphemy. Self titled and From Here to Infirmary are the best and This Addiction and Is This Thing Cursed are probably the bottom 2.
Is This Thing Cursed has some gems on it, FHTI I think we all agree is top notch though
@@PunkRockRadarOh yeah. That's the one that started it for me personally.
