Ostapenko has incredible talent which is overlooked because of her frequent questioning of line calls. She disagrees with the electronic system. She disagrees with human lines people. If the call goes against her, she argues. It takes away from her. Her noise is also distracting. It’s a shame b/c she really is powerful.
It’s either fireworks or damp squibs with Penko. A damp squib type of day.

@@scout7060it’s not really as nuanced as you are making it out to be when there is plenty of evidence on the internet about ostspenko’s unsportsmanlike conduct. Listen in a fan of her game but I’m not gonna deny that many players such as Ajla and many umpires such as Julie have had problems with her because of her lack of integrity and respect. So while I do think we don’t always know what goes on in the court as viewers, it’s pretty much well known that Ostapenko is not a graceful player on the court
Talent? Just power from the baseline. Her game hasnt changed since i first watched her. Everyone else is evolving and improving but she plays the same regardless of opponent. That’s a serious lack of tennis IQ

@@isabellasmith8377 And Ostapenko this season keeps being amongst tour's elite. She is one of the 20 best tennis players on tour for good reason. She has mostly showed just how good tennis player she is. Some defeats against winnable opponents doesn't make Ostapenko bad player. Even 1ga Swiatek loses or at least badly struggles against winnable opponents time to time. It's impossible to keep your level high for long. There will be loss of form and downslide of the performance by all athletes.
I love Elisabetta what a wonderful, warm & bubbly personality & person. She's had some terrific wins in recent times has the Italian none more so than Today. Hope Elisabetta goes far what a great oncourt interview too

And the umpires kept giving Jelena's opponent the point after she hit the ball out. (If you're wondering what those last comments are about, you've never noticed the user Einars commenting on Ostapenko matches.)

Lyon was won by a local WC. Cordoba's final was qualifier vs qualifier. Buenos Aires was won by a local WC. Auckland was won by a qualifier.
Personally I'm cool with this - the ATP had been ungodly stale for years and I like seeing new faces breakthrough, especially when they can sustain their momentum. But what's going on with them is so much "worse" (if you hate upsets/surprises/new players) than an out of form player with a risky game style like Ostapenko (who still won two 500s before the calendar hit March) losing to an in form top 40-ish player like Cocciaretto.
Bravo---no surprise here---Penko has been playing horribly for a few months now---probably in love or just losing interest. And Elisabetha has been playing super. Benissimo gioco

@@cscottrun23 Penko never reached her peak potential --held back by her attitude and stubbornness. Her 4-0 record against Iga does show her potential though.

WTHec has been going with Jelena! I hope eventually she faces Iga in the first week of whatever tournament to see if she has actually lost her abilities.
I am no fan of her character, but not towards anything recent but instead her past, but it just doesn't seem right for Jelena to be struggling as this.

I think the riskiness of Ostapenko's game style means that she can have days at the office like this. For all the flashy highlights and amazing results she can produce when she's on, she can absolutely lay some eggs when her timing/mentality are off and a player like Cocciaretto can take advantage of that.
I mean, last year, Ostapenko lost to world number 569 in Seoul before winning two 500s in the first couple months of 2024. She ebbs and flows more than just about any other player out there.

This umpire was blind and delusional. So many times when Ostapenko clearly hit Cocciareto's singles court this cheating chair umpire called those shots as outs and awarded points to Cocciareto. So many mistakes in line calls and point awardings by this delusional chair umpire. This umpire should be fired and imprisoned for such cheating and match fixing. Incorrect decisions by this delusional chair umpire. Ostapenko would have won this match if this umpire had enough brain and had good enough vision. This umpire should be ashamed of himself for such mistakes in line calls and point awardings. This umpire every single Ostapenko's shot called as outs, but he didn't do that for Cocciareto. When Cocciareto missed her ball, it almost always was in for this braindead chair umpire.

Jesus Christ Einars, buy a tablet….and new pair of glasses. It was just typical her choking match, too many UE’s, she resembles Aryna sometimes. Can’t she understand that the ball placement doesn’t need to be made with the full force. But she has a switch like 0 or 100, nothing in between. She needs a much better coach, not umpires.
