on JackSucksAtGeography we upload a range of easy to watch geography related games. We mainly play Sporcle games like "naming all 197 countries". I successfully learned all 197 countries and plan to learn more Geography trivia. On this channel I also play Geoguessr. This is a game that uses Google Street View to drop you in a random location and you have to work out exactly where you are on the worldwide map. Geoguessr was created in 2013. If you want to see more from Jack he uploads different content to many other TH-cam channels, linked above!

You can just call Prince Edward island, PEI. All of us Canadians do

Yeah, Jack, that's why you're pronouncing Newfoundland as "New Finland" for the whole video
And On-tar-io instead of ont-air-io
His problem is that he's putting the emphasis on the wrong part
He's saying it: new-FIN-lund
When it should be: NEW-fin-lund
@ it should be something along the lines of NEW-fuhnd-lund, so he's pronouncing the middle syllable wrong too
Ontario will drive me crazy forever I'm from there it's
On-tare-rio
@@Zirtipand you don't pronounce the first "d". Kinda glide over it. New Funland
Your pronunciation guide for Newfoundland was wrong. Most people don’t get that there is a really strong emphasis on the third syllable, and they break the first and second syllable in the wrong spot.
It’s Newf-n-LAND.
New Finland without the I

Learn the Canadian province flags next
Does anyone remember when sugar packets in restaurants had the provincial flags on them? That was how I learned them. (Yeah, I'm old, I know...:P)
“labrador is quite a big dog”….. A NEWFOUNDLAND IS A MASSIVE DOG TOO
Good point!
Massive?
It frustrates me how Newfoundland and Labrador aren't the other way round like they are on the map.
@yes-713bigger than a lab. Males are usually somewhere around 150 lb
@yes-713 a newfoundland dog is pretty much the same size and build as a st bernard just with a denser courser coat and less jowley
PEI was originally named Epekwitk, Ontario acquired its name from the Iroquois word “kanadario”, which translates into “sparkling” water. (and canada comes from the word kanata, the huron-iroquois word for village), the name “Quebec” comes from the Algonquin word for “narrow passage” or “strait”, The name is believed to have originated with Cree term "Man-into-wahpaow", meaning “the narrows of the Great Spirit”, which describes Lake Manitoba and how it narrows significantly at the centre, Saskatchewan comes from the Cree name for the Saskatchewan River, “Kisiskatchewanisipi” or “swift-flowing river.” Saskatchewan River, “Kisiskatchewanisipi” or “swift-flowing river”, Nunavut in the Inuit language of Inuktitut means “our land”, and Yukon, the territory’s name probably comes from the word “Yu-kun-ah” meaning “great river”, and the rest are self-explanatory, unfortunately… but they need to change back!
Not sure how difficult this will be, but trying to guess every UK or English city. The UK has a weird set of cities, and it’s more a guessing game of whether a UK settlement is a city or a town
Good idea. I feel like there are some pretty small cities in England like Ripon, Lincoln, Chichester and Ely along with there being like 50 cities just in England, but it could be a fun main channel video
scotland is easy
*angry Reading noises*
Does no one like Reading? Because everyone I know doesn’t like them, and the kings and queens certainly don’t like them enough to give them city status 😭
I feel like even naming every UK country and territory would be a great video itself (by territory I mean crown dependencies and overseas territories)

“New Finland” is making me pull my hair out 😂

You should do more overseas territories and Australian provinces
Australia uses states, not sure what the difference between a state and province is but they aren’t the same word so there’s probably a difference
@Darth_B A province is typically part of a unitary system with less autonomy, controlled more by the central government, while a state is part of a federal system with more independence and power to govern itself.

Provinces
BC - Where I lived, easy. (At the time)
Alberta - Not Like Saskatchewan, BC took a bite out.
Saskatchewan - Easy to draw, hard to spell.
Manitoba - Milk jug. (Make sense for bagged milk)
Ontario/Quebec - The Originals.
Newfoundland & Labrador - Farthest east; first found. NFL = Canadian Ireland. Labrador on Land.
Nova Scotia - New Scotland, also close to Britain.
New Brunswick - (I forgot what I did back then - might have been, not Nova Scotia tbh)
PEI - The little island.
Territories (Now this is were I date how old I am)
Yukon - Gold rush Yellow, The only break from colouring NWT.
NWT - Why must I colour the entire north one damn colour.
Nunavut - THE NEW ONE! Finally a new colour! (This was my first time ever dealing with a map change, and I realized boarders are arbitrary)
But man the pronunciation killed me a wee bit every time. Angland, Scootland, Ereland, Wahlls. Just for a little revenge. ;)

As a Canadian everyone calls it PEI

Super proud to see such amazing content - my abs thank you for the workout!
🤖
@JamesKirkpatrick-bt6jr these bots are clownin bro
Well I just learned what it feels like to have someone completely mispronounce words or names in you're culture lol
Also to remember the order and names, I've always thought of a song for it. It lists only the provinces from right to left, so it's easy to remember both names and locations. You can't really translate the song part well, but here's an attempt:
"Newfoundland and PEI. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Quebec, Ontario, from there you will see: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC."
For territories, I can just remember their placements. Yukon's against Alaska, Nunavut's all the islands, and Northwest is just put in the middle.
I know it's impossible to know every spelling, fact, etc of countries, and that's why I'm not at all mad or upset, just laughing and cringing in pain from mispronunciations and switching between provinces and territories, and everything else lmao. To be fair, there are some weird names with weird pronunciations that you kinda just pick up on as get used to similar names that I'd completely see foreigners mispronounce. Newfoundland is a common one, but more people say what it looks like, not calling it Finland lol. But it's somehow more right than "New Found Land" in a way, you just needed a bit more speed to saying it and "round it out" if that makes sense.
Even some Canadians struggle to spell Saskatchewan 😅
Great video!
Best way to remember Saskatchewan is Sas-katch-e-wan or if your doing the kinda little melody the closest would be like 'Sass catch a wand' even though its not pronouced the way that sounds.
Big Provinces:

Maritime Provines:
Two New Prince of Scots = *New* foundland & Labrador, *New* Brunswick, *Prince Edward* Island, Nova *Scot* ia.
