There has been many great singers since but after listening to this piece with glennis grace singing “home” leaves me above speechless. This is what a tribute should do to old fans.
Just watched back a documentary of Lady of Souls. She’s part of it. She told she never had singing lessons. As a child she just learned this herself after school hours. Also she is not part of the Whitney Tribute. It was her tribute to her hero. BTW recently she made some homevideos out of her livingroom. Amazing version of Never Enough. She is just sitting and still is able to deliver with so much power, amazing.
It's ironic that you mentioned Glennis didn't mess around with or change from the original arrangement, because that's what Whitney did EVERY single time she performed. To me, she played around & tried to reinvent her songs far too much; anything but sticking to the original arrangement. Kudos to Glennis for doing that so flawlessly & elegantly!
The reason she opens her show with the song "Home" from the Broadway play "The Wiz" is because this is the song that Whitney Houston sang for her first TV performance on the Merv Griffin Show when Clive Davis introduced her to the world. Is this song for sale on iTunes? it was Phenomenal!

She grew up in de ‘Jordaan’, a Folky neighbourhood in the centre of Amsterdam. Her grandfather built a recording-studio in the attic of her house, to stimulate her in her talent. She would spend hours and hours there practising Whitney-songs. She would place straws in her ears and sing in them, so she could check if she had the right tone (she explained that somewhere in a documentary). People in the street would often stay outside the house to hear her sing! This is a recording from that attic, when she was just 11 years old singing ‘where do broken hearts go’.
