No ppe, no problem. One of the harshest lessons I learned was closing my eyes or looking away when I was helping someone weld. Couldn’t open my eyes for a week. Was Tig welding and it went right through my eye lids. Even though he’s tack welding that will add up over the years. Not to mention skin cancer. But it’s his life. No OSHA there.
Meh, they're both 21, have at least another 10 good years in them. But outside the western world, this is standard welding methods.

Quite frankly, to put "safety" into perspective in this case ...when there are other "people", "workers" around, yes, all the more important. But in this case, it appears there are two and only two people in this plant and they are working together, communicating together ....watching each other ...and appear to know each other and have a very knowledgeable working relationship. They know each other and what they're doing as a team.
The term "mom & pop shop" is not that uncommon in North America ....but it certainly does NOT mean/suggest or intend to be anything like this!!! Just imagine how much faster the bending could have been done with TWO tiger torches.
I wonder if the "beam" is ever "tested" or "certified" to anything? We didn't see any finish welding.
Considering what these two are doing, as "hokey" as it may appear, ...they are doing a very impressive job.

Each time I watch a Chinese manufacturing video, I am astounded with the lack of safety equipment and the clothing worn by the 'skilled and experienced' worker. Standing there looking at the arc is asking to go blind very quickly.

Pretty sure his not looking at the arc, his using his hand to cover the arc. I would like to see how that "no look" weld bead looks like though.

I was in 1992, had worked at the MULCINDO Steel Structure company as an operator making WIDE FLANGE and HBeam with a welding system. not long after that I worked as a Welder with Grade 6 SMAW Classification. and now I'm still working in the Steel Structure field for the construction of WORKSHOP buildings in various companies.

I know you're trying to be funny, but actually, anyone can TACK by BRAILLE as is the case here. What you're seeing is the REAL WORLD. This practice is done all over the world ....exactly like this. It's a TACK. If the end result is wrong, it gets fixed/corrected before getting welded.

No need for hoods to perform quick TACKS that will more than likely be removed before or during the welding.
The guy looks like he has done so many of this....he is skilled. He does not use a welding hood for tacking. He knows his stuff!

Mom and Pop making trailers in their own mega factory- this is what is wrong with UK and US manufacturing: we cannot get loans to start businesses.
100 % Agree. Then you have all the regulation, yes we need safe work environment but the regulations here go way too far, insurance costs and the threat of law suits would keep most work environments safe on their own. Workers in the US and most of Europe would not tolerate the working conditions in China.

Everyone's an expert on here, its just a trailer frame relax i like the mum and pop team and there are days where i wish i could wear sandles, also he is only tacking it, not welding it yet, and his hand is shielding the arc if you look closely

Wow!! Quality workmanship at its worst. Strike an arc wherever. No need to look at where the arc strikes. Throwing around the square and smack the flange with a hammer after a shitty tack weld. And that’s the main frame, only the most important part.
But hey it's cheap right? ,,,, and that's all that matters. I'm a DIY welder and I'm appalled at that level of shoddy workmanship.

The lack of eye protection and footwear sucks, but there is nothing wrong with that method of fabricating a trailer beam.
Excuse me, but the solder method also sucks, I doubt It resist any effort or stress.
@@barquisimetido1 It´s welding, not soldering, and he is only tacking things together to keep them in position while the heating/bending is done. My guess is that they have a automated procedure for the final full beads.

Just like a rafter beam, it will get welded with a sub arc. No need to X ray the welds and stiffeners will be put in the web for added strength

He doesn't know that it will be the SMARC process, nor does he know if "stiffeners" will be added ......he is merely pointing out there will very likely be additional steps taking place from what we saw in this video.
The fact that the beam is being tacked up as a whole unit suggest they will actually weld both sides using a dual mig gun set up on a track. If they were sub arc the beams they would only tack @ the neck

Meanwhile Ford Rolled out Thirteen Complete F-150 Supercrews, with time left. They make a Hydra Formed Frame in two minutes, almost totally done with robots.
This is cheaper but the quality reflects it as well.
And this is why "structural steel beams" and columns from China are not allowed for structural use in the UK or the EU!
Don't be a DINGLEBAT. Chinese and Indian steel is allowed for structural use ALL OVER THE WORLD. There are TESTS done and certifications obtained from any country that can produce and meet engineered specifications.
It's called SUPPLY CHAIN ....and one reason why North American and European steel manufacturing is now a shadow of what it was, nothing more than a few decades ago. The Americans and Europeans can't compete with either China or India when it comes to structural steel and plate. Either country can put steel on American soil far cheaper than the the American's can make it, thanks to the high costs in the U.S. and Europe.

I notice The Man has very thick appearing eyelids. Perhaps a very small set of adhesive backed blink shields? Thinking outside the box, here. We all are alarmed at what appears to be the obvious, but, the text says,"rich experience." implying this has been the norm for awhile. Thats a stack of raw material. So they seem intent on finishing. The fixture bed is perfect. Is this a spoof? Crocs on the job? Half worn out ones, by the scuff looks. Is life THAT cheap in CCP run China? The inherent strength of the girder is vastly reduced by the use of the acetylene torch, this has a negative effect on the steels hardening which directly relates to its load carrying ability. Amature fly by nights, they should never be allowed to destroy steels load carrying capacity through reckless random heat treatment like that. its criminal.
Please use a face shield to protect your eyes when welding.
It's one thing to be able to weld with your eyes closed and another to actually weld like that especially on a critical structural part like a trailer frame. If this video is meant to inspire confidence in their workmanship I would hate to see them work when they know the camera isn't watching. I don't like the idea of being on the same road with a trailer made in that shop carrying many tons of weight. This is a good example of Chinese workmanship. it may be decent but to do a good welding job you have to watch your puddle and adjust accordingly, this guy acted like he didn't care how it came out just that it was done.
Phill Huddleston most likely this is just the initial setup with tack welds to hold it in place. These will move to another station to be fully welded.
@@Bread996 I realize it will get more welding but I doubt it will be fully welded it will likely be stitch welded and I question whether it will be done any better than this. We did not see the weld but any person can do better while watching the puddle than not looking at all.
Phill Huddleston I got news for you that’s how it’s done any fab shop. I don’t wear a hood when I’m tacking material in place. Unless you’re sitting down to burn it in, the hood is a pain in the ass. And yeah it’s most likely stitch welded. They all are!

Dennis Zuurbier there’s a yard full of these container trailers next to my shop in Seattle. These are all stitch welded. I imagine if they were made anywhere else they’d be robotically welded, but labor is cheap in China so no need ;)
He sets everything square. Good. Wait till he starts to weld and watch it pull. Never did see the welding. SMAW, GMAW, SAW ?

Maybe he sets it just over 90 degrees so when the weld freezes and pulls, it pulls it square. Maybe he is that good.... Maybe. I think the hammer is there to jazz it up a bit for the completely clueless people who like other people who hit things and get results. The only question left is whether or not someone is gonna call that number and get some cheeeep trailers from the Glorious Peoples Republic of Chinese Trailers: From each according to their ability, to each according to their need... to pay!
