I can't understand why the National Juries failed to give the top votes to this beatiful meaningful song Mallemolen. The music was right with haunting melody, the Performer with a lovely voice with Back Up singers and most of all the relevance of the song to our lives. For a lot of my generation, this was the winning song of ESC 1977 and will remain in our hearts.
Heddy Lester deserved to win. Heddy Lester had a beautiful voice at that time !👍👏🧡💙💜🇲🇫
12 Puntos.
...and the last verse: And the peoples life (on the) merry-go-round, Continues until you become dizzy, But you will still hold on tight, if you no longer like it, because (life) away from the merry-go-round is unknown. It's a delightful song, a real Dutch classic; Can't understand how it came 12th; one of the best eurovision songs ever.
This song actually grows on me. When I first heard the song in 1977, I was only 13 and found it very boring indeed. Now more than 30 years later, I really liked this song especially now I know what its lyrics mean and I find the melody very nice as well. Isn't it strange to see how taste changes as one grows older.
@samboxed This song is much superior than the winning song. The lyrics, the melody and performance were simply great. This was overlooked by the Juries.
Well Done: apart from "merry-go-round" or "carousel" being better translation than "whirligig" you have the gist very well. Here the next verse: Once on the merry-go-round of life, At first you may be a little scared, Someone will hold on to you, Until you can do it on your own, Fear of the merry-go-round never lasts long.
A nice song about never wavering in front of situations that might seem frightening at first, nicely metaphored as the 'carousel'. Still, what is up with that dress?! I can feel my eyes burning as I'm looking at it!
Yeah the dress is awful. The song is great though. I love the lyrics, these are so true. A pity that most Europeans can't understand the lyrics, otherwise it might have gotten a better rating. Thanks for all your comments European brothers! Greetings from the Netherlands.

Still a lovely song. nice lyrics
A beautiful song, my fave from 77 I never tire of listneing to it & the lovely lyrics.
Beautiful Song! Good luck for Heddy Lester and her country - The Netherlands. I`m from Slovenia. SloveNIA

Fantastic song with great lyrics
Thank you very much, dear Leviwosc. Good luck from Slovenia.
Great song, I remember it well.
I still have the vinyl of the German cover: Auf dem großen Karrussel des Lebens (on the big carusel of life) and I have a new player
A beautiful Song of our neighbours and perhaps the best of Netherlands non-winners
The NL have always been so much better in Dutch. Love the language

there is an english version as well, also very nice, I found out about that a few months ago
RIP Heddy Lester

Prachtig nummer!
Brilliant song, fantastic voice. But should we compete like this? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heddy sang the song 🎵 brilliantly.
Her dress looks like a curtain!
Yet this should be the winner.
Very nice song from the Netherlands.
Totally. This applies to all sorts of music. I couldn't stand Blur's "Country House" when I was a kid, but today I love it.
Its sad that so many good songs don't do well, this is a fine dutch song, should have been much more successful.
this is the most beautiful Eurosong song ever
I do agree she sang brilliantly but I thought she would have sung in English. She deserved to win.
Heddy Lester deserved to win. Brilliant Singer and Song.
A fabulous song and a wonderful performer. His 12th place is a big joke. France and the Netherlands were the best that night.

I've learnt so much from observing you I could nearly write a book on skat! LOL! LOL! LoL!
Lovely 26/27 old year woman:) Lovely Song.

Fab!
The best Eurovision song from the Netherlands.
@jeron79
yeah, specially in that dress ...
very nice opinion sharing ... more! more!
:!
La canción muy buena lo demás.........
zit wel waarheid in :)
great song it is a pitty that our dutch is so far from other countries
... but it´s so sad, that in following years the performers were no more artists, just newcomers (exept perhaps 1979 in Jerusalem)
A nice song about never wavering in front of situations that might seem frightening at first, nicely metaphored as the 'carousel'. Still, what is up with that dress?! I can feel my eyes burning as I'm looking at it!
Non Dutch speakers can find the lyrics on the internet and use Google Translate: I did that. It's worth doing.

Did Heddy and Michele Torr shop at the same haberdasher? (See "Monaco 1977") It is a poignant song I must admit, makes me wish I understood Dutch.
@samboxed Yes, but these language it's a problem. Grrrk grrrrok....
Nummer 12!!!!! Nooit meer iets van gehoord.
I would say more like a delicious strawberry cake.
Kleid.
Is that a clowns outfit?
Altijd Veel beter in Nederlands
This is a rather boring song, in my opinion. Sorry.
