  • With CJI complete, I wanted to share my favorite moments and more from the Craig Jones Invitational, day 2, where we saw the semis, finals, and super fights for the 12 remaining competitors.
    linktr.ee/josh...
    We've got Kade Ruotolo, Levi Jones-Leary, Lucas Barbosa, and Andrew Tackett on deck for the semis in the under 80, and then Nicky Rod, Adam Bradley, Inacio Santos, and Fellipe Andrew for the over 80! And of course, we'll be waiting for the Craig Jones vs. Gabi Garcia and Ffion Davies vs. Mackenzie Dern superfights later today...
    Who's gonna get the million bucks?

    Gordons superfights that no one, literally no one was asking for is going to accelerate him into irrelevance. CJI's model, especially watching them side by side, is going to change professional grabbling. the rules are better, the match structure is better, and even the walls are genius. Nobody mid 40's hobbyist rolling since 2004 here, was somehow lucky enough for the stars to align to get to see both
    Adcc was cool, felt like a college wrestling meet. T mobile center sucked, $30+ beers, made me throw my fanny pack out, tons of superfluous staff just standing around costing money.
    Cji was the experience of a lifetime. In one trip to the concession stand I ran into both the Martinez brothers, jocko, Erik Paulson, Eddie bravo, and a ton others. All just chilling and getting drinks and chatting with anyone who wanted to, it felt like this wild egalitarian thing. The matches were way more exciting (goddam, I never thought the adcc ruleset was so bad, but Jesus that ten minutes of pushing each other is rough), the whole vibe was that it was several thousand of your best jits buddies getting together to watch some scraps.
    And then the gabi match. She was an INCREDIBLE sport, and actually gave up her adcc hall of fame spot to do this. I'm embarassed to say, I always thought of her as a kinda sideshow, and she showed so much heart and humility and integrity to be part of the jokes and make some money for the athletes...

    Bro, some many things happened in those 3 days.
    - CJI reached the goal, it was amazing ( there is space to be better) ;
    - The pit defi was way better than adcc mats
    - Im a grappler fan , and i did not wake up early to watch adcc( I live in autralia)
    - Kade vs Andrew was one of the best matches of all time
    - Levi being criticised the way that he is been, its not fair, he is so good, but I think he could use leg entanglement to come on top and put pressure on Kade, Levi has a amazing leg drag pass;
    - Gordon is not fighting Nick and we could see, he is not the same;
    - Please, make a video explaining why Gordon got 2 points, he said because he started the takedown, but it was Pena;
    - Mica vs PJ, was a good match, I think PJ won, and Im not sure if PJ should have score in those last seconds when he passed micas guard, but overall I still would give the decision for PJ;
    - Mica tapping for Dante;
    - Merigali tapping for Pixley;
    - After all, is possible to pay the athletes more, as we all know how many views that CJI had?
    - Kainan put a amazing performance;
    Anyway, just few points that I have to mention, hope that we can have a CJI 2. osss

    Rule set needs some tweaking but it was unreal. The evolution of the sport is happening. CJI taking rule set from Folkstyle and freestyle will help. Shot clocks, maybe ride time, something has to be done to deal with butt scooting. I’m all for pulling guard, but sliding around like that is not what the sport needs. Yes part of jiu jitsu, but it needs to be altered rule set wise. Just my 2 cents

    • @retroghidora6767
      @retroghidora6767 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It wasn't seated guard that was the problem, Kade just did that because it was a safer way to mock what was Levi was doing. The problem was supine guard which they tried to address. No one would be complaining if Levi was actually advancing attacking wrestle ups, dummy sweeps, etc. and FIGHTING to say in a seated guard like Marcelo used to. The problem was he was just pulling seated to then lay on his back and wait for Kade to give him a chance to do something. Idk how you fix this without messing up the rules, maybe add a caveat that only completing sweeps or deep submission attempts count as
      scoreable action from supine guard specifically or something like that.

    • @jamess3408
      @jamess3408 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This definitely would not stop it, but forcing guard players to have to habe grips before they can pull guard would help. That would eliminate the but scooting, but that wouldn't stop them lying back once it's on the ground.

    • @OMARANT100
      @OMARANT100 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perhaps a standup rule similar to MMA? You can't force a person to wrestle with you, but they also shouldn't be able to force you to walk into their trap.
      A crazier idea: put a bell in each contestant's corner. If you can walk to their bell and ring it, you win. I know it's out there, but think about it. If you can't enforce your will on me to make me stay in your guard, then you're not really winning the fight.

    • @BigBoss877
      @BigBoss877 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OMARANT100 this ain’t a ladder match buddy lol.
      Takedowns need to be rewarded higher. More incentive for wanting to stand. Putting guys on shot clocks or have a ride time definitely should be implemented
      So for example. If the bottom player is stalling and waiting for someone to go into a trap vs setting up a trap/baiting. They’ll get a warning and go on the clock. If they fail to sweep, submit then one point or some kind scoring criteria goes to the top. The sky is the limit. CJI has everyone talking !

Ruotolo never really came close to passing, and outside of a few times in the first two rounds LJL never found any effective entries into the legs. More people need to put on events like this for mma as well. People really need to start mixing it up and stop trying to just copy the UFC’s format. You’ll never compete doing the same shit. You gotta be the wcw to the wwf.
    I will say they need to stop acting like
    They’re actually fighting though. A grappling match is nothing like a fight. So it really annoys me when they call the grapplers, fighters and it irks me when they act like they’re whipping someone’s ass or if they carry the same attitude as a fighter. 95% of jiu jitsu doesn’t even work once strikes are introduced and when you can knee a grounded opponent in the head lol I’m not gonna lie.. I’d watch the onlyfans collab tho 😂😂

    two things made this event something i could suggest to non jiujitsu fans.
    1. freak show match- this is massive. cji needs more than just one of those matches.
    2. kade vs tackett- during the match i sent this to fight fans who don't watch or care to watch jiujitsu and they went wild. - rule set creates this beyond the athlete. punish passive play heavily reward agression and attacking. its not a game its a sport. so this whole plassive play style- this defense for 98% of the match only to attack a few times in a safe way to gain advantages is not good for the spectator. imo it doesn't prove whos better at jiujitsu either like gordan thinks. Levi is cool but this kind of play needs to result in negative so he is forced to attack and not just defend and wait. You can buy so much time on defense only you control the clock then. whats the point of watching someone do that.

    Levi just has a ridiculous, absurd style of bjj. The whole butt-scooting approach that some athletes take will not attract mainstream attention, and it's just weird. Bjj is supposed to represent an actual martial art, and to have your primary game as a guard-pulling, butt-scooting approach, it's just dumb. Nobody likes it. I get it that it's simply working within a rule set, but there needs to be a penalty for taking an approach like that. Just like a judo player wins a match due to an ippon throw since it represents actual damage in a real fight, so too must we start rewarding bjj styles that reflect real fights...even in sports bjj.

    Gordon beat his ars 2 time. Please, we don't want to see that again

      Yes, yes we do. 1 million on the line makes for great sport regardless of who wins. Now Nicky is stupid AF to put his money up with a new kid on the way, he should have said 100k.

      @@shabblabbat Gordon won't bother for $100k. No real upside to taking a match he as a real chance of losing, unless there is a LOT of money on the line. Not to mention the ADCC vs CJI argument and "Death Squad" drama. IMHO Gordon's thinking more about "legacy" now as he seemingly continues to struggle with GI issues. Nicky's athleticism and raw talent make him a contender for sure. Gordon needs lots of money to make the risk worth the reward.

    How many busshit "superfights" gordon going to take to try and pad his brilliant career? To be complaining about cockroaches and not care about fighter pay because he makes enough is saddd.

    The antics make mockery of the sport. We could take notes from the Japanese.

      LOOOL the antics are what make a sport NO ONE cares about technical BJJ it will never become popular it isnt interesting to watch for most people including bjj fans. No gi becoming more wrestling focused objectively will grow the sport its actually fun to watch.

      @lmar2075 It's fun to watch to me because it's technical when you have two high-level players. Chess is fun to watch to some...the antics are childish and not entertaining in the least.
