Hunting new country, 6 days and a best mate!! // 2022 Sika Hunt in NZ on Public Land

  • In this video I fly back to New Zealand where I spend six days with Jono hunting public land for Sika Deer. The hunt was in the Kaimanawa Ranges in April during the deer rut. It testing conditions we had a great trip exploring new country!!

      @@LiquidAntler I’ve been going there for a number of years now but mainly in the summer. I went there in the roar couple of years ago…. Weather was similar!

    Do you just shoot the deers then take the heads? How much meat off them do you take cause it looked like your just left it without taking much.. Also do you cook up any the meat while camping?

      No boned out the meat and hung it in a tree. The meat just kept as the stag was shot on day 2. Processed and gave it to my parents.

      No i left the meat with mum and dad. Too hard getting back to Australia

      Yea great to get back. No other hunters seen in the public over the 6 days. Did spot a few in the distance on private blocks

      @@LiquidAntler would you go back to that block mate? I’ve been looking at that particular block for years…
      Would water be an issue if if were periods of fine weather?
      I was specifically looking @ spring/ summer.

    Can't understand why you were hunting that sour tops country as there is no feed there. Should have been lower in the Beech forest. You were not given good advice for sure. Stags can't grow antlers on that crap feed.

      Hey mate was a last minute decision to chase sika. Not all about big heads but exploring new country and spending time with mates.
